308 Win. vs 6.5 Creedmoor.
This is the final evaluation of my "Never hunted with" rifles, to be pre-season evaluated for the upcoming deer season. In my part of the country shots on target can be 100 yards to 500 yards.
My Savage FCP chambered in 308 Win. vs my Bergara BMP in 6.5 Creedmoor. Both are extremely accurate. The only downside is they are heavy.

Ran across this. For years i have been making my Savages and a Weatherby Vanguard woid stick and a few other less expensive rifles shoot better than some high dollar ones. Own many Savages over the years. Quality has gone down some. Seems like i am tweeking more things than i used to. Getting so i am leaning towards other brands. Just went through an ejection problem on a recent 223 12FV. It amazes me how they save a penny here and there that really affects shootability and quality. That is not only in the rifles but many reloading products. Just tuned up an RCBS hand primer so it can match my original Lee hand primer. As for these feather weight rifles, i go to the gym.. lol i guess i am stuck in the B52 era, built right and still flying.. Great video!

Love my Savage 110FCP in .338 Lapua. I added a cheek raiser, and prefer the traditional stock for outdoor/hunting use. Have a Bergara HMR which is a great blend of traditional but match/target capable. I also have a AIC Stock for that I can swap, I love both rifles. Used to have a Barrett M99A1 but really prefer the .300 Magnum to .50BMG for a variety of reasons. 🤙🏼

I went back to the Oryx chassis. I solved the problems. With the adjustable cheek, don't use thumb screws, use set screws, they will hold. Goda Grip pad on the cheek piece for comfort and recoil. Don't use P Mag. use the MDT proprietary AICS mag with the narrow feed lips.

I had to give you a thumbs up to change your 666 to 667. Can't have the mark of the beast on your channel, right? BTW, you should like your scopes mounted super high! I mount mine as low as they can go for better shoulder placement and cheek weld. I have that same Beraga rifle with a Sig Sauer Tango6 5-35x56 scope mounted on a 20 MOA rail, a Geissele Super 700 Trigger System, and an APA muzzle brake. Thanks for the video~

Completely agree with all of this. Precision rifles can be heavy. Some people choose chassis systems because you can add weight. F class is heavy. It's okay when wheeling the case from your vehicle to your shooting lane before you get to lay prone. But if you are hiking a mile on non-manicured public hunting land, it makes a difference. Especially on back country elk or moose hunts. I go back and forth with the weight thing. I like chassis systems. I have my Mossberg Patriot .308 in an MDT LSS Gen 2 with folding stock adapter and SCS stock. It is a bit heavier than the original plastic stock and the original thin recoil pad. It is more comfortable and accurate to shoot now, but it weighs more. And I put on big FFP optics, as well. My Mossberg MVP has a heavy wood stock and a medium bull barrel. I have hunted with it and it is a little heavy. This last season, I hunted with my TC Compass II .308. It is lightest. The original plastic stock is good and I changed the already decent recoil pad to a Falcon Strike hydraulic pad. And I screwed on a muzzle brake. As for cheek, I got some Goda Grip pads. Then I added some craft foam and vet tape (amazon) to get the cheek rise. Averaging 1/2 MOA. But I was chasing MOA and I like chassis. So, I got an Oryx chassis for it. Finally got to shoot it and had problems. The adjustable cheek rise would sink. And major feed problems with the AICS mag. That was frustrating. And the gun was a little heavier. I don't want to have to do anything special in the woods or be afraid of getting a round into battery. So, I put it back in the factory plastic stock, which is sturdy enough and has metal pillars for bedding and put my Venom back on (I tried another scope that had rings that would slip because they are held with small allen screws that loosen by themselves.) Got it working like I had it.

Oryx vs LSS gen II What is better? For speed shooting match (Shoot and move)
@ronws2007
@ronws2007 2 жыл бұрын
@@kangwankhottawong8586 Just going off the weight, not price, the Oryx might be a little lighter. Again, I had problems with the cheek rise. And you might have to try different magazines that work with your action. My TC Compass II in .308 works fine with the 5 round rotary magazine. One of the things I did is when I was sitting and watching videos, I would practice loading that magazine until I could it without looking. So, maybe a PMAG or another ACIS with a smaller distance that does not allow the round to just jump out when you smack the magazine into place. And there has to hopefully be some kind of solution to make the cheek riser stay where you set it. So, for functionality, I would pick the MDT. It costs more but it functions very well. Cry once, buy once. The only reason I did not get an MDT for my Compass II is because they do not make one that has the action screw guides at the same distance of 7.05 inches (Winchester short action, even though the rifle actually has a Mauser style action.)

What do you think about options like the new Bergara Mg Lite? Chassis, but magnesium so the bare rifle is just 6.7lbs with their new carbon barrel. I am still trying to figure out if I do something like that...or stick to more of a traditional stock with something like the Bergara Premium Divide. All insights welcome!
@ronws2007
@ronws2007 Жыл бұрын
@@PUcmw11 I like both of those and I happen to like chassis. Update on the TC Compass II - I put it back in the Oryx. I figured out the solution to the cheek riser staying put. Don't use the thumb wheels. Stick with the original allen-headed set screws, those hold tight. Pick a spot and stick with it. I like the MG Lite, supremely adaptable. You could make it an F Class or some kind of PRS by adding weight to it. Both it and the Divide have the same barrel and action. The Divide is a fixed stock but also not as cold or hot to the touch because of the stock. Adjustable cheek rise is good. Slightly heavier than the MG Lite, it may be also more comfortable to shoot. More weight usually softens recoil impulse. Gavintoobe's version in the 6.5 CM is a bit moot because that is a soft recoil round, anyway. When you get up to 7 PRC and .300 WM, you are dealing with some recoil that will get your attention. The advantage of the MG Lite is the folding stock. Smaller to stow and not catch on things. Currently imprisoned YT'er Matt Hoover (CRS Firearms) would hunt with a SCAR heavy. He could fold the stock, sling around his back, and then drag his deer out of the woods. So, personal choice. Heavier with a better and more adjustable fit? Lighter with a fixed stock?

My Bergara B14 BMP is way too heavy for me to want to carry it around hunting. I have a hunter stock, a lot lighter, but still a bit heavy. I’d much rather go hunting with my AR in 6mm ARC. It’s a lot lighter, and plenty enough gun for anything in Texas. The deer here are like chubby Chihuahuas.

I have a B14 BMP and the H.M.R. given the HMR is just a little over 2lbs lighter than it's full precision aluminum chassis brother, after packing it and the rest of your equipment for miles through the woods, that 2lb difference for me is a big deal. Less fatigue for me makes for better hunting.

4:24 he actually hit about an inch below center (the 2 inches above center hit was already there). 5:12 is about 2 inches about center, he is only 100 yards away, you can hit Sub MOA with just about any rifle, you don't need a precision rifle.

i shoot both of these calibers and one thing i noticed is the 308 drifts way more in the wind than the 6.5 . especially at long range !!

@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for your comment. For deer hunting at max distance for me @500 yds. wind drift is 1-3 inches between the 308 150gn. and the 6.5 140gn. But for target shooters at distances longer than 500yds you are correct the 6.5 is superior.
@Swearengen1980
@Swearengen1980 Жыл бұрын
This is why I haven't moved on from my .270. It gets ignored as an old timers, outdated cartridge, yet outperforms either of those in under 600 yard hunting distances. But once you go further, 6.5 kills them with it's lack of drop and drift. The only reason I'm even contemplating adding a .308 or 6.5 is because .270 ammo has fewer options and doesn't get the attention from manufacturer's that the 6.5 is getting. But let's be real....how many of us can fully utilize (and wants to pay for the scope) to snipe someone at 1,000 yards? Not many lol.
