My first Terraria experience was a multiplayer world with friends who immediately told me to jump down the Hellivator and join them in the Underworld. Spoiled the early game exploration magic and struggle to get geared, but I still love Terraria.

Love how you've taken your old desire to help out inexperienced players in a game you know well and applied it to one of the best games, ever. The organization, details, and explanations for WHY to do certain things and what doesn't matter is great work on your part. Good to see you doing what you love.

Thanks a lot for your guide, really didn't know about all those shortcuts that you use, im new to terreria and from all the guides i saw yours was the best one, really well explained, thanks again!

Thanks a bunch for this guide! I actually started playing Terraria back when it first released, but haven't really played it for almost a decade. Pretty sure the last boss I remember killing was the Wall of Flesh. Got the itch, and decided to look up a beginners guide to see what changed in the early game. Thanks for going over all the QOL stuff that I would have not known about, haha.

I disagree with your conclusion about auto tool selection, its not just a "gimme a torch button", you can ABSOLUTELY play the entire game with all of your tools in your inventory (besides hammer, but even then i keep it in my inventory and manually whip it out when needed). It frees up multiple hotbar slots permanently and is my preferred way to play. At least put your axe in your inventory, its rarely used compared to pickaxe so you wont find yourself holding shift permanently. i know this might sound nitpicky, but anything that is only implied is likely to be missed, so you not explicitly saying that the pickaxe and axe can stay out of the hotbar and even discouraging it by saying its just a torch button makes it likely people wont use it or at least take a long time to make that connection. 2.5 more things that should have been mentioned are: 1. The bestiary starts showing stats and drops of enemies after you kill enough. (not that big of a miss though, imo bestiary takes way too long to give useful info, you tend to be past the point the info is helpful when you unlock them) 2. quick health button and quick buff button, you mentioned pretty much all the other important keybinds. 3 (half joking). totally should of had a clip of jocat yelling "READ YOUR TOOLTIPS" lmao, you did a pretty good job on this but its hard to overstate how important it is. i count campfires and buff stations in general in this category since you probably didnt mention them so players can discover them spoiler free. Despite my nitpicks, this is actually a really well made video and covered pretty much all the most important info. I really enjoyed this and ill save this video for if i need to send it to people in the future.

As a long time player of Terraria I think you did a wonderful job of breaking down the basics! The only disparity I have with your video is not recommending expert mode as a first play-through, the slightly harder difficulty kinda balances out with the extra loot & accessory slot and more interesting boss battles But again, you did a wonderful job and I love your stuff man!

Gonna have to hard disagree with that. Assuming a new player is going in without guidance, as they should be able to, expert is a horrible idea. You gotta remember these are players that are gonna take a full day or more to make shelter, don’t know where to look for upgrades, don’t know how to make proper housing and probably don’t even know what the goal of the game is. The biggest scare of expert on a brand new player is the very real possibility that the buffed enemies are going to kill the guide before they learn how to make proper housing to get him back. At that point someone trying to play the game without external assistance is well and truly screwed, and the odds of that happening on classic is far, far lower. I agree that classic is easy, but that’s an opinion that is based off of gameplay with good weapons, accessories, buffs, armor and NPCs. When you start taking those things away, it raises the difficulty of the game incrementally. Master EoC is light work with platinum armor, boomstick and a blade of grass in an arena. But consider the new player who’s balling out with tin armor, an enchanted boomerang and 140 health fighting a classic eye on rough terrain. They don’t know they should build an arena, they don’t know that tin armor sucks, and they certainly don’t know about buffs, good weapons, and that’s not even to mention under developed mechanical skill, hot key knowledge or boss attack patterns. I’ve been watching a good deal of new player terraria videos recently, hence why I made this, and I find that there are two constants. The new players overlooking MAJOR systems in the game that we take for granted, and the overwhelming compulsion for people to backseat them towards elements of the game that they wouldn’t have found otherwise. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6DFk5RtoJ6gaq8si=Qo_3D0EptefhAjHf For example, Milk Man Steve beat the game without combining accessories. At all. Didn’t have wings either. Which is telling for just how easy the tinkers workshop is to miss, but also just how much harder the game is when you aren’t aware of the subsystems that are hidden in a random NPCs shop. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKjGpWttgruHhs0si=9oTOsU-UrTvK9jkE Throarbin showed a couple brand new players experiencing the game for the first time a while back, and by forcing them onto expert mode he showcased them failing to build shelter before night, which is ok, but they then proceeded to get kill farmed by zombies 2 shoting them for the next 9 minutes straight. Not a good new player experience. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2qzaJ2CbtKDbZosi=0IzPp6skvL2Y6qoG This poor SOB whose entire playthrough has been entirely governed by a kid in the comment section directing him which mods to install, weapons to craft, where to go and how to play. This is probably the worst case scenario for a playthrough since it’s hardly even your gameplay anymore. To be fair I don’t believe this is his “first” run, but from how much guidance he is taking I’m lumping him in with new players, no disrespect. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnuxiaWpftNgjcksi=B26PUQibe5SpkWpf I think SilverThrone had the best new player playthrough in recent memory, avoided most spoilers, figured it out himself, and believe it or not, had a good time on classic. I’ve rambled enough I guess, point being, getting packed up by normal enemies when you dont even know how to make a torch is gonna make more people quit the game than the terror of having an easier first playthrough, so hell no don’t send new players into expert.

@ I guess I assumed most people nowadays would be introduced to the game in a multiplayer setting with maybe one experienced player and a couple new players like in UberDanger’s video for example m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5DVqKOVisejgs0 And now that you mention it It took my brother and I when this game first came out a whole month just to know we could talk to the guide and were stumbling through most of progression lol I do think you should continue to talk about systems like the TW, arena building, and potions because of some of the reasons you mentioned Thanks for clarifying some stuff and for the video recommendations, have a great day

I disagree on recommending small world. It causes the sky biomes to be too close to the ground. You can literally jump in higher areas and suddenly have "problems."
