Nice and clear. I have ordered this car seat after much research and with having a Volvo one of the safest family cars I wanted to also have a great safe RF carseat for my son. I'm on a couple of car seat pages on social media and they make out like it's the hardest seat to put in and request people to pay them to install it which isn't the case. If you watch clear instruction videos such as yours it makes it so much easier to do it yourself. Thank you for taking the time out to show people how to do it themselves.

You're very welcome. I sell lots of these seats online and the installation really isn't as hard as some people thing. Having said that some people prefer to have their seat fitted by an expert for peace of mind. But that's not always possible, which is why I make these videos to make it as clear as possible.

Yes, the rules and what is considered best practice are very different between Europe and the US. It would be good to see car seats in the US that rear face for longer, and for people to move away from the idea that two years is old enough to go forward facing. It'll happen, but these things always take years.

Hi thanks for this video. Can I ask (as I’ve only had cybex seats with isofix up til now), once installed can you just use this every day or should you be checking all these straps every time? I’m so uneasy about using the seatbelt after years of knowing it was clicked in and not having to think about it!

You only need to check it from time to time, definitely not every day. Seat belt thickness does vary from car to car, so in some cars it will stay put for months or even years, and in others it may loosen slightly and will need to be tightened up every now and again.

This is really clear and informative thank you. I read that it is better/safer to have less recline as your child gets older so can be more upright, but you seem to be recommending permanent full recline?

Babies in infant carriers should be at a 45º angle to keep their head back and their airways open. Those seats are designed to be at that angle. This seat and others like it should have a recline of around 20-30º (from vertical). Full recline on these seats that are suitable from one to six years, is around 30º. If they were installed without any recline they would be uncomfortably upright.

Thank you for this very clear video. I feel confident I could fit this seat. My baby is 18 weeks old, shes a fine long girl approaching 75cm and I need something larger. Is she too young for this seat?

Hi, Yes, at just 18 weeks I think she is still too young for this seat. Babies of that age have usually only just got enough head control to hold it up for extended periods. The Minikid is quite an upright car seat and is meant for children who can sit up by themselves. Infant carriers are much more reclined and young babies need that recline angle to support their head for comfort as well as safety.

No, the Minikid has self retracting tethers, so that wiggle helps to tighten them. The Movekid’s tethers are manual, you pull them tight by hand.

Hi how Do you prevent head flop forward when sleeping? Mines 16 months when sleeps head goes forward? Front incline is fully out

If you move the front seat as far forward and as upright as the tallest passenger/driver can manage, you will maximise the space in the back which will allow you to recline the Minikid more. It's always best to put the Minikid behind the shortest adult. In some cars the seats are quite sloped which makes the Minikid too upright. If your car has sloped seats you need to put the optional foam wedge under the recline bar to adjust te position. It's also important to tighten the tethers before you drop the leg. If you extend the leg first the straps will only go as tight as the leg will allow. Leaving the leg til the end means that you can fully tighten the tethers first for the best recline possible. And finally, the headrest needs to come all the way down to the child's shoulders, and the straps need to be flat and tight.

If your car has underfloor storage you can either fill it or extend the leg down to the bottom of the open compartment. A lot of newer cars' boxes have reinforced lids that you can safely put a car seat on. Which car do you have and how old is it??

That car’s storage boxes are not reinforced, so you will need to open the box and extend the leg down to the bottom.

Hello, my instructions with my axkid sho the claw attaching to the square bit of the bracket. I have already attached to round bit. Is this still safe, is there a reason for tue discrepancy or doesn't it matter?

I always use the round bit, it looks neater. There is no safety difference.

I've follwed these instructions and fitted this behind my seat (driver) as have a Britax Maxway Plus installed behind the passenger seat. The support leg doesn't seem secure, I can on fact move it back to the point its no longer in contact with the floor. Its as if it needs to extend one notch further, but there isn't enough space for it to do so, can you advise how I can get a tighter fit so its unable to be moved? Thank you for an informative video! I also used your instructional video to fit my Britax seat!

Thank you! Sometimes you need to undo one tether to get that one last click, and then fasten the tether again afterwards.

How well these seats fit always depends on the height of the front passenger, and if they're very tall it may not work, but if the front passenger isn't overly tall it should fit.

Hi, is it safe to install it like this in this car? This Citroen C4 has a compartment under the legs, right where the support leg is positioned.

The new shape from 2014 onwards has reinforced lids on the underfloor storage compartments. These are safe for car seat support legs without the need to fill them. My car is a 16 plate, so I can safely install a Minikid, or any seat with a leg, on my storage compartments.

If it's the new shape, yes. In the old shape you will need to open the lid and extend the leg into the bottom.

These seats are crap, my wife got them but I cannot fit them in either a Merc ML or Range Rover as they require the front seat to be pushed forwards.... so where do my legs go? And how do I control the car with this junk behind? Not suitable when you have 2 kid seats as the front seat is left with no room. Forward facing now it shall be for my 3 year old twins.

I have fitted this seat in quite small cars such as the Ford Fiesta and Fiat 500. I am 1.70m (5'7") tall and can fit fine in the front seat. These seats will take up as much space as you give them, so if you move the front seat all the way forward before you install the Minikid behind it, it will go back quite far and the front seat won't be able to go back much. The trick is to move the front seat into the required position first and then install the Minikid behind it. Unless the adult in the front is very tall, this will work.

I feel that it is important to point out that a child in a forward facing car seat will move forward quite a bit in a frontal crash, so you will need a lot of clearance behind the front seat. A forward facing seat may fit more easily in a smaller space, but needs a lot more room to avoid injury. So if a rear facing seat doesn't fit, there isn't enough space to safely fit a forward facing seat either.

I’m not sure what you mean. The fact that a seat fits in a car doesn’t mean that it won’t move in a crash, no matter how well installed it is.
