Rear Facing Toddlers

3 жыл бұрын

The Axkid ONE is the first i-Size car seat that is installed with ISOfix that doesn't only go up to 23kg, but is also approved for children up to 125cm tall. This is on average six or seven years old! These limits are much higher than other ISOfix car seats on the market, which only go up to 105cm.
Last year I actually saw it for the first time, and now the long wait is nearly over!
The ONE will be available to buy in the UK from mid Sept. 2020. There are two versions, the ONE is suitable from 61-125cm and the ONE + comes with a newborn insert which makes it suitable for babies from 40cm. Each version is available in four different colours.
You can order it here on my website: rearfacingtoddlers.com/produc...

Rear Facing Toddlers thank you!

Thank you, it really is an amazing seat! I've just run this comment through Google Translate: "The Axkid One car seat is actually very good, especially if you want to rearrange your child for more than three years. In no other seat have I found such amount of legroom, and in addition, the possibility of flexible adjustment depending on whether I am carrying a passenger in the front. Compared to the RWF seat belts, it is a completely different quality of service, I bought the seat at a good price in a stork shop. Before buying, I watched your movie several times, where I could see the functionality of this model. Rear Facing Toddlers thank you!"

I’m new to rear facing and a first time mum! (Never forward faced as little one was too young but he’s now 13 months) this looks like a great seat. For the price and longevity it provides also seems affordable long term. You have to buy the comfort insert separately which is annoying considering the price isn’t cheap. What age would you remove that? The inky negative reviews I found about the seat was the sides breaking / coming off easily. How did you find those? Thank you!

Hi, It is a fantastic seat. The One is the cheaper version which comes with an insert that is used for children from around six months to three years. The One + also includes that insert, but in addition to that it also has a memory foam newborn insert, making the One + suitable from birth. That one does cost more. On the first batch of Ones that came out last year, the ASIP bracket was glued onto the sides. A year on we are now finding that that glue was not resistant to hot summer weather and on a number of seats that bracket has fallen off. It's very easy to replace and the bracket is not fitted in a different way that doesn't use glue. All new seats that have been sold in the last few months and will be sold from now on, have the new glueless brackets, so you won't have any problems.

Hello Margaret, thank you for your video. We need two rearward facing seats and looking at your video, with a tall(ish) driver this really would not give enough legroom in the front (id need the drivers car seat roughly inline with the B-pillar), I gather from your video your car is a Volvo SUV, is this car an XC60 Or XC90?
@RearFacingToddlers
@RearFacingToddlers 3 жыл бұрын
This is an XC90. What is the age gap between your children? If two or more years, you will only need one seat up to 25kg for the eldest and you can get the youngest one that goes up to 18kg. These are more compact and usually fit better behind a tall driver. The Axkid One in this video is fully adjustable and can fit in quite tight spaces. Doing this will reduce the child's legroom, but for a younger one this doesn't matter, and even when they're older you'd be surprised how little legroom the actually need.

Hi Margaret, if I install an axkid with tethers in the rear and then I need to drop my back seats so install in the front, would I need two sets of tethers or could I use the same tethers used to secure the seat in the back if fed through to the front ? X
@RearFacingToddlers
@RearFacingToddlers 3 жыл бұрын
You can just use the same ones, but you'll have to make them a bit longer and pass them under the front seat.

@@RearFacingToddlers hi Margaret, sorry me again, we are now looking at the klippan opti, my daughter is very tall and we want her RF as long as possible, so does the same apply with the tethers? And if they were tethered to the rails (I can make this happen if needs be) you would Feed them Under the seat and then attach or would you push them through the gap between the back rest and the seat base? I’m Struggling to visualise how to do it, also would I need to cross them if in the front ? X

This is an ISOfix only seat and the majority of cars only have ISOfix in the two outer seats, so you can't put this seat in the middle. However in cars with ISOfix points in all three seats, you will be able to get three of these in.

Hi, thabks for this video :) We own an axkid one 2 and have been driving it in a mazda Cx5 behind passenger seat. I would like to know which car model allows 2 of these seats in the back to be used up to the full growth span of the kids. Apparently you can use the seat up to approximatively 22kg and 125cm, so 6 to 7 years of age i would say. Which car allows 2 of these to be used in a way that the kids can use the maximum leg space it allows while the driver, 185cm, can drive comfortably too? It is extremely difficult to find infos on this in the internet. The usual reply is go to the car dealer and try different models. Ok, but it must be possible to narrow this down a bit no? This seat doesnt fit into a mazda cx5 behind a drivers seat if the driver still wants to drive comfortably. Since we will have 2 axkid one, we need to switch to a care that van fit both, to be used comfortably through whole lifespan, while driver should be able to drive comfortably too. Many thanks

For a seat like this to fit behind the driver, you need quite a lot of space. One car that gives a lot of space is the Skoda Superb, but it is true that in a lot of cars, or in families with a tall driver, you can only fit a seat like this behind the passenger. If the age gap between the children is two or more years, you won't need two big seats, you can get the younger child a more compact seat up to 105cm and then when the he/she outgrows that one, the older child with be ready to come out of the bigger seat. If you have a smaller age gap (or twins), another option is to get a car with three full size seats in the second row, where the middle seat also has ISOfix, that way you can have one child behind the passenger, one in the middle and that leaves the driver seat free to slide the seat back far enough.

@RearFacingToddlers
@RearFacingToddlers Жыл бұрын
It depends on the car, they don't all have the same amount of room. But to be honest, I would say it's probably better to install this seat behind the passenger seat when you're driving.

@RearFacingToddlers
@RearFacingToddlers 3 жыл бұрын
I have just checked the growth charts and a child who is 18kg at three and a half is on the 85th percentile. If he keeps following that line, his predicted 23kg age is six and a half.

I have this car seat. A few things to consider: 1. If you have a boy sitting in this seat, the position of the buckle is poor and squashes his private area which is very uncomfortable for him. If you loosen it, the whole thing is loosened leaving the strap coming over his shoulder and down his chest ridiculously loose and unsafe, he is no longer strapped in. But to tighten that area always squashes his privates. It is a lose lose situation aa the buckle is just poorly placed. 2. When my son falls asleep, acceleration cause his head to fling forward very aggressively which is not safe for his neck and to me, is exactly the same motion this seat is supposed to be protecting against.. Very unsure aa to what kind of testing they have done because these are serious issues and should have been picked up instantly. Is there a way to adjust the buckle position? Has anyone else experienced my second point?
@RearFacingToddlers
@RearFacingToddlers Жыл бұрын
Hi, 1. This is something that I have heard before, not just about this seat but others too. It's not that common, but some boys do find car seats uncomfortable. 2. If the seat is reclined enough the head shouldn't fall forward. And I think that if the head is flung violently forward when you accelerate, then you may be accelerating a bit too fast. But even if that does happen, it still won't be anything like the forces that the neck is subjected to in a car crash. Reclining the seat a bit more and accelerating more slowly will help.
