Axl Rose in court (Part 2/2)

Slash and Adler met their future Guns N' Roses bandmates when they placed an ad in The LA Times searching for a bassist for their band. Duff McKagan responded to the ad, and later worked with Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin in Hollywood Rose, who Slash had originally auditioned for, before merging with LA Guns (Rob Gardner, Tracii Guns and Ole Beich) to create Guns N' Roses.
The three joined Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin to create the most famous and "original" line-up of Guns N' Roses. Adler drummed on the first two GN'R albums: the multi-platinum Appetite for Destruction and G N' R Lies. Adler's work also appeared on one song on Use Your Illusion II, the opening track "Civil War", although his drum track is said to be heavily edited.[5]
In late 1987, while Guns N' Roses was on tour, an intoxicated Adler broke his hand when he punched a streetlight after a barroom brawl. Fred Coury from the band Cinderella substituted on drums for several shows until Adler recovered.[6] At the 1989 American Music Awards, where Guns N' Roses performed their latest single, "Patience," Nobody filled in for Adler on drums because no drums were planned for the song and it ended up being acoustic only song. Officially, the absence was attributed to a case of the flu; it was later revealed that Adler had actually been in a drug rehabilitation program at the time.
Problems continued in 1990, as the band recorded "Civil War" for Nobody's Child, an album benefiting the Romanian Angel Appeal. Axl Rose has said in interviews that "Civil War was recorded a good 60 times" due to problems with Adler[citation needed] ; Slash, in another article, stated that the band had to edit the drum track to "Civil War" simply to be able to play along with it.[5] By Adler's own admission, he tried to play the song "20, maybe 30 times."[3] During the recording of "Civil War" Adler was still trying to stop using drugs.[4]
Adler was briefly fired from the band, but was reinstated after signing a contract promising to stop using drugs.[7] In July 1990, he performed with Guns N' Roses at Farm Aid IV in Indiana. It would be his last appearance with the band. When problems in the studio continued, he was formally fired on July 11, 1990,[8][9] during the recording of the Use Your Illusion I & Use Your Illusion II albums, and replaced with Matt Sorum. The official reason for his departure, according to various members of the band, was his heavy substance abuse which impeded his ability to work. Geffen A&R rep Tom Zutaut, who worked with Guns N' Roses, corroborated this claim, stating in a 1999 interview, "Steven Adler would show up at the recording studio completely high. Recording sessions would abort for several days when he couldn't put it together."[10]
In October 1991, he filed a lawsuit against his former Guns N' Roses bandmates, claiming that they were responsible for his drug addiction and that the contracts he had signed actually took away his financial interest in the band.[11] In a 2005 interview he stated, "Doug Goldstein called me into the office about two weeks later. He wanted me to sign some contracts. I was told that every time I did heroin, the band would fine me $2,000. There was a whole stack of papers, with colored paper clips everywhere for my signatures. What these contracts actually said was that the band were paying me $2,000 to leave. They were taking my royalties, all my writing credits. They didn't like me anymore and just wanted me gone. That's why I filed the lawsuit - to get all those things back."[3][9]
Adler's lawsuit against his former Guns N' Roses bandmates was settled out of court in 1993. He received a back-payment check of $2,250,000 USD and was granted 15% of the royalties for everything he recorded prior to his departure.

My friend and I had floor tickets and before the show went on we were being crushed by these big guys trying to push past us. I told a security guard I couldn't breathe (because I couldn't) and he had Axl on walkie talkie and Axl (I could hear his voice) said "let her and her friend up towards the front right now! I don't want anyone getting hurt at our shows!" And the next thing I knew a security guard ushered my friend and I up right by the stage! And every show I've been to Axl always tells everyone to drive home safe! Sorry not sorry I'll always stand up for Axl Rose!! 🤘

I could be wrong but I believe Axl was behind the master plan to steal Steven Adler's money. They should have just fired him but they tried to take his 15% away including for the albums he already recorded. After this court case he won back his 15% royalties for the stuff he was on but doesn't own anything in G n R after that. I read Steve Adler's autobiography as well as the other G n R people. He was so messed up on drugs he let them take all his money and it was his mom that filed the lawsuit to get his money back. Then his manager stole millions from him just getting him to sign checks when he was high.

People hate on Axl, but they refuse to see his side. He never did most of the stuff he's accused of. Slash left the band, formed Snakepit, and trashed Axl relentlessly. Axl has a right to be pissed off. He was the only sensible one at a time when the rest of the band were on drugs all the time-they make out it was his ego that drove them apart but in all likelihood, it was their drug use. Same reason Izzy started travelling alone when he got sober. Drug addicts are not fun.

Axl has had relationship problems with his women and has thrown temper tantrums but a lot of it is because he is a perfectionist and doesn't dig it when people don't do their jobs i.e. hired staff and guards. They all dabbled in drugs and Axl has admitted it but he is not the entire cause of the band deteriorating AND Axl is a really nice guy, he has a heart of gold and gives to charities like you wouldn't believe but its just to bad that people don't see that side of him. I know his brother Stuart, he cooked a really good dinner with another band that I knew and he too was very nice. It broke Axl when his mother died and he is real close with Stuart and Amy. I say these things because sometimes Axl needs to be humanized, it just seems like people look at him as just entertainment when there is so so much more to him. I never got to meet Axl but like I said I did meet Stuart and their family is close.

Sounds to me like Axl had his business head on thinking of the money and his future. Money breaks up all bands at the top in the end.. Base players suddenly think they're socialism is correct that they deserve equal money even though they didn't contribute to the melody or writing.. The same goes for the rest of the musicians in the band who are not adding anything to the song writing and melody process. The truth is, whoever wrote the melody and song will have every right to demand a bigger slice of the pie in regards to money accumulated by the band unless a contract was signed by all members from the start of the band that all money was split evenly down the middle. That drummer was an idiot who was a trainwreck waiting to happen.. Touring will kill some band members who can't deal with waiting around and all the drugs and booze available to kill time. Izzy was grounded, he realized he didn't need alcohol or drugs so he just stuck with things that he liked on tour and kept his personal stuff close to him like his dog, gal and other personal things. He knew if he was to survive that he would have to have some sense of normality every day around him. Something to remind him of home in a way..

At first I also found those pauses ridiculously long, but when I saw all 20 minutes of a lawyer trying to get a specific answer he wants to hear, it was clear that Axl (or anyone in court generally) doesn't have a luxury to talk some nonsense right away, because lawyers would immediately take his words literally. This is just my own personal perception of why Guns N Roses disintegrated too soon and cracked under the pressure of becoming the greatest rock band ever. And believe me- They were indeed tagged with that title right out of the gate. All of the greats-The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, etc.-they all agreed this band had the talent & a pop culture appeal that dwarfed their own. I look at Guns N Roses breaking apart, which was way too important to allow to happen, and lay the blame on poor management and poor corporate oversight. The whole reason record labels assign managers & producers to bands is to supervise them and lead them even when they don't know what is best for them. You can't leave it up to the band to make those decisions because despite their success, they're still just walking the path for the first time. It's still new to them. Managers are supposed to make bands do what is best for them because bands don't know what is best for them. Instead management looked the other way, the band mates gave Axl too much power, and no one from Geffen Records stepped in to keep this band together when things were starting to crumble. I don't blame Axl for developing LSS(Lead Singer Syndrome) and becoming a bipolar dictator when he's the biggest rock star on the planet and trying to keep everyone from crashing and burning. I blame the veterans of the industry; the "adults in the room"(management and the record label) for allowing it to reach that point.

There were MANY issues in the band. The reason why the band ultimately broke up was all the big egos. ALL of the band members had huge egos and were quite talented. Slash is probably among the top 20 best rock guitar players of all time. Axl WROTE THE LYRICS and music to such masterpieces as "Estranged" "Don't Cry" "November Rain" and so much more. There were also fights and arguments and frustration due to different band members suffering from heroin addiction. Adler was the worst off and could not play at all due to doing heroin all the time, which is why the ENTIRE BAND joined together to kick him out. Adler was one of the original members and helped form the band! So lots of hurt feelings.

GNR broke up because Axl wanted to move on with their music and experiment with different sounds. He wanted to recreate Guns n Roses. Slash wanted to continue the band with the sound they already had. They wrote a bunch of other music but Axl didn't like the music because it sounded like everything else they did. That's why Slash created Slash's Snake Pit and went on tour with them. When Slash came back Axl and Slash had an argument, and they knew that if they couldn't come to an agreement, Slash would leave the band, and they didn't. Then Duff and Matt were trying to make things work and convince Axl to do the band with Slash and Axl said no and that's why they left the band

Slash didn't like the new line up that Axl had put together, for whatever reason, he has said he didn't leave GNR. but rather decided within 24 hrs he didn't want to move forward with them. It was Slash that told Axl "I'm done"...that is in Slash's own words, & I believe his account due to the fact he just has more integrity than Axl, Who enjoys bashing his bandmates publicly for things he was doing as well. Slash never made public statements like that.

However, if you watch Slash being interviewed on a 'Headbangers Ball' video, on youtube, we'll see Slash clearly asked the 'lateness'question, and Slash blatantly defends Axl, says it's nothing, says 'he' totally understands Axl reasons, says even, he, himself, doesn't feel ready to go on stage sometimes... Hypocrisy.

I really hated Axl at one point, when they would cancel show's because of his "VOICE" being fucked up......But now as an adult and gone through the drug and alcohol bullshit stage in my life, and loosing our Rockstars to drug's and alcohol use this is a positive thing, but he should have had him do the rehab thing first....Somebody told him to do this.... It wasn't axl's idea. That's just my opinion, But a lot of rockstars during the late 80's and 90's (a lot) of people were fuckin Dieing from Heroin.....Steven Adler is alive today right.If Axl had never done this maybe Steven wouldn't be here today..I'm just sayin....
