Axolotl likes being pet

Just a normal day in my tank.
This way you can see how Mummy and I interact.
She doesn't do that everyday though, only occasionally like once every three months or so but you can see that I'm the one lifting my head to meet her 💖
Do not grab us or touch us too often as it can damage our slime coat. But a gentle pat is harmless.
Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly and remember all axolotls have different character so some might actually not like to be pat.

Oaki (my axolotl), bites me all the time because he thinks I'm food. I get scared I'm gonna flinch and hurt him, so I'm slowly starting to hand-feed him again. The little guy is such a rascal, he uproots all his plants so he can perch on them while they float around, then tries to eat them too! It's important to remember that axolotls are fragile, and should not be touched and handled frequently. Gary trusts his "mummy" because she doesn't try to grab him all the time!

@@tortoise2.04 Yes, they can, but it still hurts when they get injured. Also, their regeneration isn't completely perfect, and they can still get scars. They also live underwater and can't breathe air, so in order to handle them at all, it would have to be underwater. Also, handling would still stress them out because they would probably think the hand grabbing them is a predator. So, it's best not to handle them unless necessary.

(etc: cleaning their tank) holding them too much for forcibly petting them can cause damage to their slimy coat and stress them out!
