This 3D medical animation explains kidney stone disease: how and why kidney stones form; major risk factors for development of stone disease; and the key to therapy-preventing recurrence. Kidney stone disease affects millions of adults. A kidney stone can be as small as the head of a pin, but the pain it can produce can be enormous. Scientific animations like this clearly demonstrate renal anatomy and the pathophysiology of kidney stone disease. Have your own medical science story to tell? We can help. sales@axs3d.com
AXS Studio created this kidney stone disease animation for professional and patient education. It was commissioned by Mission Pharmacal through Topin and Associates.

@@Ur2ez4me81 I had one that was 6mm the first time I found out I had them I had 5 in the right and 6 in the left. If they pass its actually not that bad. But if they get stuck and you have hydronephrosis THATS REAL PAIN. What happens is the stone is stuck in the uriter tube and wont move the kidney continues to make urine and swells and swells and PAIN. I can pass them and its not to bad I know what the cutting is like and I'm telling you all if you haven't had hydronephrosis hahahah you dont know what pain is. And pls dont think I'm down playing your pain I know it is bad but what I'm referring to is the worst pain I've ever had. And I want to give you an idea of how much worse it can get. Iv been severely burned on both arms face 1 lower leg and belt line with 2nd degree burns. And make me crispy again rather than hydronephrosis. But my diet was all the bad things salt energy drinks no water lots of protein shakes and medullary sponge kidney disease that the main issue is rapid and frequent kidney stones. If you want something good and natural just squeeze lemon into your water it has potassium citrate that will bind to the calcium and not let it make a stone. best wishes

I'm a grown man, I was laying on my right side in bed, what put me in a painful panic was a excruciating pain on my right abdomen, wrap around to the right side lower back, I almost teared up in front of my gf, I was left in a fetus position, as I struggle to even get on my knees, the fear of not knowing why you're suffering through pain worst than child birth is ever frightening, I was not sure what I was suffering from and called an ambulance, minutes go by and I gather the strength to get on my feet but was stuck in a hunch position due to the pain as I slowly felt the pain travel from abdomen down to my bladder area, then the pain finally subsided, I decided to called back the ambulance to cancel and see if any worst symptoms will arise, later that day I went to take a piss, what look like half the size of a penny and is dark with sharp edges burst out through my urine and freaked me out but gave some relief, I finally knew it was kidney stone ....... I have dedicated my life to drinking more water

@@Ur2ez4me81 sorry never got to measure it as I passed it out without knowing it was coming out..... I ain't digging in my toilet unless it's gold lol, from eye measure it looked about 5.5mm, I went to asked the doctors and they said that's fine, but anything above 7mm you'll probably have to get it surgically removed, I would suggest lemon juice to dissolve it down as much as possible, hang in there man ✊

Sorry for many questions, I'm doing my best to research and ask esp to people that have experienced it, the Dr said he might undergo surgery but i pray it won't go that far and hopefully would pass on its own.would really appreciate if you could share some of ur experiences on this. The ER diagnosed a 12mm stone lodged in the ureter, as “gas”, twice within 30 days. Where it lay undiscovered, FOR 12 YEARS. During which time the meaty inside of that kidney, was dissolved away, resulting in a hollow floppy shell three times normal size. Statute of limitation, and the incompetents in the ER have gotten away with it. My hollow kidney is now a kidney stone nursery, requiring surgery to clear out every year.

Lord I just had my first one this past Wednesday in the early morning. I thought I was dying. I didn’t know why all of a sudden I was having this pain on my lower left side. I had to go to the ER immediately. After a cat-scan was done and they told me I had a kidney stone. Next morning I pissed it out and it was so tiny. Almost looked like a small pebble with spikes on it. Luckily it came out after just a day.

I woke up 6 days ago with pain in my left testicle - felt like someone had it in a vice, pulling and turning it. It is my first and I vomited just trying to take an Advil so I could get to the ER. Was medicated and in pain the first three days after the CT scan confirmed a 5mm mass at the kidney, but this weekend was hell and based upon this video, and where the pressure is, I likely just went through what the Dr. called the "Iliac hurdle" - he told me there would be three phases, and this would be the worst. I can't imagine anything 10mm or larger.

This was a great video, thanks so much. I had my first (hopefully last) pain the Monday before last. One was .7 cm & the other 1.4 cm, is that normal sized? I had the surgery this past Monday (5 days ago). I have 2 stents in and the pain is horrible. The really crappy part is we are in process of moving so my husband has had to do everything. Every time I feel sort of ok and get up and do something, I have to sit back down and rest and take painkillers. Dr is acting like I’m crazy for having pain and his staff has been very rude too. I don’t get the stents out for another week. I drink a ton of water so no issue with dehydration. I was eating / drinking a lot of protein so I’ve cut back on that. Consumed a normal amount of sodium. It doesn’t run in my family. Hoping cutting back on protein helps. I feel for all of us going through this!

I started having kidney stone pain that was worsening, so I went to a hospital late one night. A urologist gave me an injection to control the pain. I don`t know what it was, but it worked pretty quickly. I have had ultrasounds show it, and they commented that it was quite small, but this time, rather than a few hours of pain, it has been 1-1/2 days sometimes worse. I took a long walk today, got back and it must be spasming, so in went a Nurofen Forte 400 mg.

But the mild pains still persist on the right side of my abdomen. After sometime, I learnt about a successful Hepatitis B and fatty liver treatment from Dr,Ayes. I was on the treatment for over 1 months and tested negative to the virus after I completed the treatment. Its almost unbelievable how effective the herbs was alleviating the virus. I completed the treatment few months ago and still negative! Potassium Citrate is the answer. I'm the same as you. I've been on PC for nearly a year now and clear kidneys and back to normal kidney function. I buy the raw PC powder and make my own capsules with a special kit. It's not expensive. Take 5 to 6 grams per day. Life saving stuff. No more mega stones. It disolves stones into small granules and dust.

I have a medullary sponge kidney, and have passed stones since the age of 16. I had to try different diets through the years wich had no effect what so ever. We moved to another town for work reasons and it was my new hospital that eventually found out why I was making the stones. I've had one procedure to remove some, but there are others that can't be removed unless they take the faulty part of my kidney out. I've got a fantastic urology team that keep a yearly check on me now. Hope your OK x

The real reason is the massive pop drinking that people do and processed food. Some people say it's too much calcium intake not it is not Denmark and Switzerland would be full of chronic stones. You also have the health care industry that makes billions off these stone procedures so you know they will never tell you anything. Have had 4 kidney stone surgeries and I am in bed for a few days with this latest one a 12 mm stone. Last one was 10 years go at 17 mm so had a good run.

An 8mm kidney stone, turned out to be a life altering experience. A surgeon put the stent on WRONG kidney, sent me home with NO care to the affected kidney. I was septic with bloody urine then sick for 6 months solid 24-7 because a nearby clinic PA kept me on a non-stop two month regimen of antibiotics, killing off all good bacteria in my gut, setting me up for a C-Diff infection. I was deathly ill 3 times before a university kidney hospital got involved. By all accounts, I should have died. They were horrified. The Dr and clinic that did this to me? Not one shred of accountability. The state medical commission is comprised of drs and nurses which protects the industry, not victims. After that, I'd rather die in a ditch than trust drs.
