I just love Diamonds and Rust. But Joan singing Amazing Grace is just beautiful. I remember a time driving on I-40 through the Smoky Mountains East of Asheville and playing my tape (yes a tape, remember them?) of Amazing Grace. All these years later I still remember the feeling of hearing that song and seeing that scenery.

One morning in the 70s I dreamed I was in a park and was singing The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down. I was at the bottom of a hill and there were people sitting around on the hillside, and as I walked up the path singing, there was a part where everyone joined in. Then I awoke to find it playing on my clock radio. ha ha ha

In the 1967 film Festival, Joan is the sweetest, friendliest person, and her interactions with the audience are so humble and appreciative. In stark contrast, Bob Dylan shows up, plays his set and quickly dashes to his limo without looking at anyone. It's said that Dylan treated Joan very unfairly, some say he used her until he was a superstar and then dumped her professionally and personally. I don't know the truth but if personalities count, Joan deserved better. It's wonderful to see that she has made peace and she holds no resentment. I wish Dan had asked her more since she was finally willing to talk about it. But one way or another she seems like she's happy and that's what counts. What a beautiful soul to go along with a golden voice.

Leonard Cohen was very gracious and funny and almost romanced the audience. Dylan didn't say a word and I would have loved to hear him speak but he's given me far more than he's taken so I'm not complaining. I still find it cool that I was in the same room as him.

I love her for opening her mind and heart to us, as she always has When I was young I knew she loved Bob D and I knew there was heartache I was maybe 13 but I saw it She and he were both in love with the same person ..Dylan was iconic in my teen mind mid sixties and that word really wasn’t “out there” yet , but you knew what it was when you heard him

Just didn’t have her on their radar. The promoters, wanting to make her happy, went to several retirement homes and adult day care centers in the black areas of Atlanta and loaded up senior Citizens and brought them to her concert, seating them prominently in the first rows. Her willingness to tell that story on herself changed my opinion of her. That, and her encore was “Dancin’ in the Streets,” for which she put down her legendary guitar and boogied around the stage for all she was worth! Go, Joan.

02/06/2025 I thought of Joan Baez today because of all the insanity that is going on in our country. Our president announced last night that America is going to own the Gaza Strip. First, he has to exile about 2 million Palestinians from their land. He was there in the White House, a guy with 34 felony convictions, standing next to a man who was declared a criminal by the UN because of his "crimes against humanity." For some reason, I thought of Joan Baez when she was young, and when, for a brief moment, there seemed to be some hope for America.
