I visited the Faroe Islands some years ago - got as far north as Klaksvik ("capital of the north isles") and couldn't get out because the tunnel, the only way out of Klaksvik was closed; fortunately the friend I'd been visiting welcomed me to stay overnight. Starkly beautiful islands and well worth a visit. (Having lived in the Shetland islands for 10 years, I'm drawn to islands.) But save up your money. Life in the Faroes is costly!

I have found the Faroe in a backwards route. I first found Eivor. What an AMAZING musician! From her, I found the Faroe. The Faroe are now on my bucket list. Ireland has always been towards the top of the list. No reason I can't visit both in the same trip. I'm thinking I need to see Ireland first though. I might not ever leave Faroe once I get there. Thanks for the video. Very well done!

A report by the European Food Safety Authority dated 20 February 2008, "the nervous system is the first site of toxicity in animals and in humans. In November 2008, the Chief Medical Officers of the Faeroe Islands recommended that black pilot whales should no longer be considered suitable for human consumption due to the level of mercury and pesticides in the flesh of these animals, in particular for children And pregnant women. Finally, in 2011, the Faroese veterinary authorities recommend that the inhabitants limit the consumption of cetacean meat and fat to one meal per month. Neurological developmental effects have been observed in Faroese children whose mothers have been exposed to oral contamination of methylmercury26. Deficits of concentration, memory and language disorders were observed in 7-year-olds. In 1989, 1999, 2008 and 2011 after the Faroese authorities issued recommendations to limit the consumption of pilot whale meat, doctors found a decrease in mercury levels in the blood of adult Faroese, but PCB levels, a very persistent pollutant, Stagnate. A part of the Faroese population suffers from nervous disorders. This may occur in adults with alterations in visual, somatosensory, and motor functions, but population studies do not show severe neurological deficits in children 0-14 years of age. On the other hand, a decrease in performance of neuropsychological tests and academic performance related to mercury concentrations was observed.

The Faroe Islands are really amazing, if you are going to travel in late August, and you are interested to see puffins, I would suggest you to go to Mykines as soon as possible because they usually start leaving in the middle of August.

I used wide and tele lenses. You can go pretty close to them. But please note that probably something is going to change this summer. Probably the only way to visit Mykines is only by guided tours so I don't know if you will able to take pics to them. Anyway you can see the puffins (less) also in other places like in the area around the waterfall in Gasadalur (island of Vagar)
