I guess the patient of Persian citizens have been overwhelmed and change is imminent. If 80% of people are for change then it's possible. They pose a serious threat to the current regime. The regime fears any uprising from the citizens. The regime is very critical of two major threats. An internal revolt against the regime and external forces from outside.

Isn't it amazing how countries are viewed as a single person? "Iran was too preoccupied with Hezbollah and didn't notice what was going on with the rebels"; As if this is about multi-tasking. Assad wanted to go back into amongst the Arabs and their organisations. MBS with the same wisdom that convinced to pay for a ski resort in the middle of Arabian desert and orhers Gulf states promised him badly needed MONEY and sanction relief. It didn't arrive soon enough. Was the delay deliberate or not? We have to wait at least 30 years to find out. The rest were events that no one had control over and everyone tried to profit from the oppertunities that it presented and avoids risks it created.

Years ago, Australia sent teams of farmers to multiple Mideastern countries to help teach simple but highly productive Australian desert farming techniques. The system worked on trial farms in all those countries. But interference from US and EU corporations that didn't have such simple technology to sell, and Communist elements within Arab governments that didn't want the local farmers making a profit, prevented widespread adoption of the system. Read SUSTAINABLE DRYLAND FARMING by Brian and Lynn Chatterton, published 1997.

The Ayatollah regime has remained in place because of its praetorian guards, the Revolutionairy Guards. So: it all starts with the questions: how many Guards are there, and what can be done to make them turn against their religious leaders. Are they just a handful, or do they have everywhere ears and eyes ? Who else stands to loose a lot if there is a regime change, and how can those be persuaded to participate or flee the country. How comes the regime in Syria finally collapsed in a short time and can it be reciprocated in Iran or not ? And finally, yes, the Assad regime fell, but... just like in Lybia: will things from now on be really better or worse ?

@bluemarlin8138Ай бұрын
Iran has a completely different society and culture than those other countries. Iranians are not Arabs. They’re Persian, and they have a long cultural history of mostly good governance and religious tolerance. Most Iranians oppose religious extremism. If you look at the polling data from Iran, 80% of the country wants regime change, with the vast majority wanting a secular Western-style democracy (either parliamentary or American-style presidential), and a smaller number wanting to restore the monarchy with more constitutional restraints. According to another recent poll, fewer than half of Iranians are practicing Muslims now, with religious observance declining specifically because of the Ayatollah regime’s extremism and oppression. If you look at how the Ayatollahs came to power, Khomeini basically hijacked what was supposed to be a secular democratic revolution in 1979. He was able to do this by seizing control of the police and military, which was mostly made up of 18-30 year old males-his main base of support. He kept the trappings of democracy, but after the initial president realized Khomeini held all the real power and resigned, all the candidates were selected by Khomeini, and Khameini after him. Point being, Iran isn’t going to become a failed terror state if its government is overthrown, because unlike in Arab countries, the government is far more radical than its citizens.
