At the church in my tribe they showed a video where they talked about how in one part they killed the surrounding people (even though they moved there so it wasn’t their land) and they justified it by saying they didn’t follow the words of god. I asked the pastor about it and he ignored me I stopped going to church after that

The main justification would be the religious practices but we don't know for sure what those were. There's some indication that child sacrifices could be part of it but we just don't know for sure. The Jewish/Christian view of the events is generally that if God wanted someone wiped out there was good reason, but that requires a certain degree of faith as the texts make it pretty clear God doesn't feel the need to explain himself.

It comes from the exact same place as the certainty of the most religious faithful. It's facinating to me that holding onto a belief, even a horrible one, is more comfortable than the honest answer of I don't know.

when you started talking about god and being hurt by religious people, it really struck a chord with me as well. I was sent to an all-girls catholic school that handed out anti gay pamphlets on day one. I never felt safe at that school or near any religious things because (i would later find out) I was a gay trans man. This was 3-4 years ago and only now am I starting to trust some religious people. I don't think I will ever be comfortable in a church again, and I don't feel comfortable praying. I am scared that I will get hated because of that.

I think this story make my point about why i'm atheist, cause i very much unfair that a non human entity espect us to behace when they repart the cards and give you a bad hand. Most of the people in church says "god don't have the fault of what bad others do in free will" and yeah, free will exist but, what fault have i of others decions of being shitty with me? And they can't say that god doesn't know of what kind of situation they put me into when i was born cause they know everything. I think that "god is devil himself?" Is pretty good, cause that explain a little the infair of everyone situation. But i think a better answer is that god and the devil never existed, and when we die is just the end.
