In 1962 Ray Charles wanted to make a country music album. Ray's record company did not want him to do it, but he did it anyway. Ray's 1962 album, "Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music," became one of his best-known records and included some of his biggest hits like "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "You Don't Know Me." Ray Charles is in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Racism has recently gotten worst, because of the rise of white nationalism.

As a white boy born and raised in West Texas, I am, and always have been, utterly _appalled_ at the racism, against _anyone_ that isn't white, that I grew up surrounded by, and the racism that continues on in Texas. I have become more and more ashamed of my home state as I get older and as time marches on. Next you'll tell me they'll start driving out _female_ country singers like Reba McEntire and Faith Hill- oh wait, they already tried to drive The Chicks out because how dare they disagree with a President _in a country where you absolutely have the freedom and even encouragement to disagree with your President whenever, wherever you want, on whatever topic you choose_ - like way too many people already do with _our current President_ - so I guess I shouldn't be surprised this happened, and that racism continues happening...not surprised, just incredibly disappointed. And still ashamed. I can't have pride in my home state anymore. When will this nightmare end...wake me up when September ends. Or rather, when November ends. (But only _after_ I cast my ballot in the upcoming election, of course!) Can't listen to or sing the songs you want to - can't read the books you want to - women aren't even allowed bodily autonomy - what the heck am I supposed to be proud of about Texas today? _What freedom, Texas?_ The 'freedom' to live and pass on, on _an old white man's terms_ - rather than _one's one_ terms? Disgraceful. I state again: I am _ashamed._

I also got into Jazz music, Brubeck, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, etc. I have never listened to just one style of music, my mix tape would contain Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, CCR, Satchmo, Beatles, Muddy Waters, Waylon Jennings, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, John Prine, Whitney Houston, Miles Davis, Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, Brewer & Shipley, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Django Reinhart, Billie Holiday, etc.

The modern country music I hear on the radio doesn't have any defining 'country' features beyond the country accent, references to country things, and maybe a steel guitar in the background behind some copy of a classic rock kind of electric guitar riff. A lot of what I have heard recently they have to constantly name drop older country artists, brands or items associated with the south, or generic phrases like 'small town' or 'home cooking' as a way to let people know, "Yes, this is actually a country song, didn't you hear the line about Johnny Cash and Sweet Tea?" So I don't know if anyone in modern country music can really complain... The genre hardly exists anymore in a musical sense. Though I disagree a little bit about pop music. Though it is very much pop in structure, most of these 'country music' guitar players are probably from classic rock cover bands that no longer have a genre of their own.

@@karenwaddell9396 As stated in the news segment, the banjo was introduced to America by enslaved African people, who fashioned the instrument with what meager materials they had to recreate their instruments from back home. In fact, it became popularized in white spaces through minstrels shows where white people would mock Black people's culture. But the fact that today, you think of the banjo as somehow separate from Blackness shows how effective the erasure of Black history has been. That's why it's so important that Beyoncé is drawing attention to the Black roots of the genre.

Btw versions of basketball were played by the Mayan and people of Meso Americas while pasty people in Europe where dieing of plagues and killing each other over religion aka the the dark ages.

We are Americans, if a Simple Country Album by Beyonce, divides us like this. Our Enemies around the world, Simply can divide and Conquer us like with a blink of an eye. The world laughs at us, because America is so divided, over the dumbest things in this world. Divide is from within, it’s makes it easy to take the country from the outside. Country Music is 200% part of the Black Culture, please learn your history, before making a fool out of yourself. But I forgot, those Bigots usually are some of the most dumbest people in the world. America when are we going to learn, divided we Will Fall as a Nation, together we stand. Keep the Country Music coming Beyonce, it’s your given birth right!!!

The irony is that Black people are the one who made that music. Blues, Jazz, Soul, Reggae, classic music, Rock … all genre have been created by black people. So no one can tell us black people to not sing what we created that’s our direct connection with our ancestors.

You could make an argument that black Americans have created all those genres -- except classic if you mean classical. Back, Hayden, Beethoven, Mozart -- about as European as you get. But, they didn't create them in a vacuum. All of those genres took Western musical tradition and made something new out of it. New harmonies and new rhythms. I mean, Miles didn't invent the trumpet. And white people subsequently took black music tradition and made new things out of it. Earl Scruggs took black three-finger banjo music, put on some fingerpicks and made bluegrass out of traditional Appalachian music of all ethnicities. Gerschwin combined jazz harmonies and European symphonic music and made something new and beautiful. Who is telling you Beyonce can't sing country music? Even Ayman didn't provide any examples of that.

@HoldinContempt Elvis, the king of rock and roll, was popular in large part because he whitewashed the Blues. And he remembered where the roots of rock were. You're probably just unaware of it because you don't know the history of rock and roll. Rock and roll existed long before honkeys (of which I am one) had ever even heard of it. Mostly because it never got played on white radio stations. Yeah, now there's a little known fact there used to be black radio stations playing music that was the direct Forerunner of what you call rock and roll. Until Elvis, honkies were afraid to move like that while they performed . How many Americans 50 or younger would even think about that.? And a good doo-wop day to you. Acapella of course.
