I was surprised to see how close the performance was on both systems, but I think for me the odin is the best device of the two. It’s got analog triggers which is great for shooting games and streaming if you’re into that while also having a fan for active cooling(I think the RP3+ has a metal plate that reduces and rations any heat it makes). The RP3+ may be more pocketable but surprisingly not by much, even my full sized switch can fit in the pants pockets I have. Both have great screens despite the size difference and are able to upscale at roughly the same resolutions on all systems though I think the highest the pocket can go without sacrificing much performance(if any) is 2x and for the odin 3x. If this was a matter of budget handheld with multiple color options, the pocket 3+ wins every single time

Totally right. The Odin definitely still has some features that elevate it, especially when it comes to more modern gaming. I guess for me the question is if it's still worth the asking price. Especially with what will probably release in 2023.

Do you think the Odin Pro fits on a regular man jeans (say size 36 standar jeans) pocket? (Not cargo pants or those huge shorts bags) My R3+ fits kinda tight but it does but can't find the answer for the Odin, and that is the key factor for me to decide.

Well for me I’m a 38-40, but currently I’m a 38. So I own an odin lite and it’s the same size as the pro/base model etc, and it fits in my front pockets no problem, put it this way if your large smartphone fits in your pocket there’s like a 80 percent-90 percent chance your odin will for your pockets.

I prefer the RP3+ because it actually fits in my pocket but the Odin Pro is better for GameCube emulation. It emulates most ps2 and GameCube games flawlessly.

What performance mode is you Odin in? Performance Mode just lets the SD845 heat up more before the throttling starts. High Performance Mode actually overclocks the SD845 to perform more closely to an SD855. You will see significant performance increase on PS2 and Gamecube/Wii titles.

If you're just going by speed, there is a question to say if it's worth it, while playing driving games, it's nice to have analog shoulder buttons and where the dpad is located. Take it up with Wii, PS2, is it worth it? We gotta take all systems into consideration. I ordered the RP3+ myself along with already having an Odin, for me I want something that I can actually put in the pocket but then I can count out most ps2 and wii games and upscaling, and 1080p+ video out..

Absolutely mate, you're totally right. There are multiple things to consider. However where the Odin was once a must have in my eyes, it's more of a difficult sell these days. Especially with what is probably coming in 2023.

My odin fits most of my Jean/short pockets for the majority of the time, literally some back pockets of Jeans are usually on the smaller side, but I’d say like 80% of the time or like 85% the odin fits no problem in front pockets.

I don’t like the analog placement on my rp3+. I find it hard to play any fps games bc they’re low on the device. Does the analog placement on Odin feel more comfortable? And are the joysticks better quality?

Would you suggest to enter in the world of handled retro gaming consoles now or would you suggest to wait? I am worried that if I will wait just a few months some massive improvements will pop out! In the meantime I can enjoy my switch, not the best for retro gaming but especially nowadays they've made it more inspiring

It's worth buying definitely, it depends what games you want to play and what you are willing to pay. You could get very cheap handelds in 2nd hand markets. If all you want to play are pre ps1 games, you'll easily find great consoles for 50 quids and below that are fairly pocketable. If you want a more ultimate handheld that can emulate up to wii u and probably a few ps3 games, and size isn't too much of a factor, steam deck is awesome

How does the Odin pro stack against retroid pocket 4+?

Heavily prefer the digital triggers (if I really want to play racing games or gimmick analog ones, can sync up a controller with those triggers), 720 resolution for battery life and much better performance (1080 is completely unneeded on that screen size) and D-Pad placement, given it will mostly be for the first five generations of games that were primarily D-Pad controlled. Though, the device could arguably be considered too small by many. It would have been nice if it was a tad bit bigger, but not by too much. However, I vastly prefer the button placement of the AYN Odin Pro way more, especially START and SELECT. And the screen itself being slightly larger is nice. However, 1080 is completely unnecessary. For example, the Steam Deck is close to 720 and looks amazing, despite the screen being noticeably bigger than the Odin Pro. And the joystick LED would be a bit annoying if it can not be turned off.

@chronic your mistaken. 30 fps is the cap for most of these games. So when your saying theres only a 15 fps difference, what your really saying is ones running fine and the other is not.

The brightness levels were not exactly the same and the lighting slightly different at record time. The Odin screen is obviously bigger and better in that respect, but in terms of clarity and brightness they are both on par

If you can emulate a ps2 system with the rp3+ as well as with the Odin, then I'll be surprised. Also, just the fact you can boost the performance of the Odin with it's settings already make it a much power powerful system than the RP3+ for the more demanding games , whether it's worth it, though, well, maybe, if you care for a smoother experience and being able to play more games with systems like PS2 I think it's very worth it. Still, if you're only willing to go as high as the GameCube, then no, I don't think the added price of the Odin is worth it.

Something what Odin pro does much better than rp3+ is Switch Games with Skyline. With Odin pro you can Play 3d Switch Games Like super Mario 3d world with 60fps while the rp3+ struggle with 20fps.

A lot of the games featured in this video can (with a little work) be made to run at full speed 100 percent of the game on the rp3+ so if you see a game here that you want to play but it doesn't run as good as you would like try using different versions of dolphin and messing with the settings

I have the RP3+ and the Oden Lite. I love my RP3+, but the OL plays GC, PS2 and Saturn FAR better. No comparison. Makes sense considering the D900 is literally over twice as powerful than the T618 and has a 100% smaller chip transistor size (6nm Vs 12nm). Factor in 1.25" more display for 4:3 content, and well over twice the battery life. No comparison.

For any game that runs 60 fps it's worth getting a pal rom pal roms run the game a 50 instead of 60 so the system doesn't have to try to hit 60 witch will harm performance

Thats' a great option if you can! I'd love a Steam Deck someday. I feel like something in the RP3/3+/RG505 tier is great for up to PSP/Dreamcast plus Android and game streaming, then the Deck is the next best option. Odin is good if you just want one that can do most GC/PS2 and below, and no interest in Steam.

@@retroconsole_ specs are identical to RP3+ as for how the Flip feels I cants say yet as I haven't got mine. If you have an Odin Pro already I wouldn't say you need a Retroid device, unless you want something a bit cheaper to stick in your pocket.
