Very good. Ayn Rand admired rationality, productivity, achievement. And yes, in many (though not all) contexts, these virtues lead to great wealth. But it's not about the wealth. It's about the virtues. People who don't understand this about Rand, either don't know Rand's works firsthand, or don't WANT to understand.

My favorite example isn't from the novels, but from Rand's own life: she asked for a much lower speaking fee than others who spoke at the Ford Hall Forum, because getting her ideas in front of such an audience was a greater value to her than how much she was paid. Of course businesspeople are out to make money, but money is not the only value they're pursuing.

Ayn Rand had a great refutation for Soviet communism. But her laissez-faire capitalism is no better for the poor. We need to realize that we are animals, who are not simply categorized as political animals.

All data point out that the poor do better the freer an economy is. Also, Rand never said we are political animals.

Here in Austria, the economy is not quite so free (tax free for the rich is what I suppose you mean) as it is in the US, yet there are no tent cities as there are in my homeland now. Nor are schools here shot up by crazies with AR 15s. I'll take it- for my sake, and that of my children and grandchildren.
