Mitad del Mindo is a village outside Quito and home to Casa Agave, the best spot to try the Andean agave drink called miske, also known as chaguarmishqui and chawarmiske. It was first distilled by Indigenous Ecuadorian Peoples and you can try a taste of tradition here.
It's a great half day tour from Quito Ecuador, you can come out to have a tour that teaches you about the agave plant, will overwhelm you with how much you can make from agave such as paper, musical instruments and clothing. And there's a miske tasting with both silver and aged agave along with pickled agave flower, bread and pure agave juice. Followed by miske cocktails.
If you'd like to eat and order some cocktails afterward they have a great menu with fantastic staff in the courtyard.
As always thanks to Andres who is (in my biased opinion) the best tour guide in Ecuador. He always finds the most interesting things to do in Ecuador especially with traditional Ecuadorian food and drink.

Need an English speaking guide in Ecuador? I hired my friend Andres to tour the country, he's got an SUV and is a licensed national guide. The best way to reach him is on Whatapp: +593 98 711 9550 and second best by email at andrivet77 AT gmail.com.
His family also owns a series of small hotels in Cuenca called La Casa Cuencana and you can book directly with him.

// MORE ABOUT ME!//
Hi I'm Ayngelina and my full time job is my site BaconisMagic.ca it's all about the best food around the world and how to make it at home.
In 2010 I left a job in advertising, 5 year relationship and sold all my possessions to travel the world. In the last ten years I've had some crazy experiences and even owned a restaurant in Toronto at one time. And prior to 2020 I had been based in Cuba.
When the world shut down I returned to Canada and decided to teach myself video. I wanted to share more than just words and photos but to show people the adventures I have learning about food around the world.
I'm not married. I have no kids. But I do have a lot of local friends who help me discover the best local tips.

It is interesting when one learns about one's own country though the lens of a visitor. I wasn't aware about miske or agave in Ecuador. Good to know. Thanks for sharing

During the beginning of the pandemic I moved back to my home province in Canada to my family's house and hadn't lived there for 20 years. We were quite successful in getting to zero cases when the world was on fire and so we kept our borders closed but allowed locals to travel. I started making videos to inspire locals to support small businesses. But also I started going places I would have never gone and discovered so many things that were always there. It's funny how we don't really explore where we're from.

@@miestrellabella4 I also thought that when I watched the video the first time until I found an scientific article about two types of agave plants: Americana and Furcraea Andina in Ecuador in an acknowledged mexican journal. It seems that not only Mexican cultivated and processed it in beverages for ritual and curative treatments. Being an andean native I also didn't know it
