Hi Biju Mohan, I can share my knowledge. , Sabarimala was an ancient Ayyanar temple of Aseevagam religion. Those days Kerala was ruled by Chera, Chola , Pandya, Ay and Kalabhras kingdoms. The term "Ayyo" in malayalam is originated from the main deity Ayyanar(Ayyan). When buddhism spread out in kerala people retained this deity but added buddhist elements ..also chants "Sharanam Ayyappa" . When Chera and Chola declined during 8th to 11th century Nairs established hindu Vaishnavism and Shaivism in kerala. They brutally persecuted Buddhist and Aseevagans. Most of the Buddhist and Aseevagam temples were converted to Shiva and Vishnu temples. But Cheras (Cheramer\Cheraman\Cherumer\pulayan\Holeya, Paraiyar\Sambhava, Kuruvar,Marakkan,Mala Arayan ..) and Chola (Ezhava , Thiyya ,Billava...) defended in many places . Sabarimala was one such place. Nairs used statue of ayyanar for Mohinisuthan that helped to unite Shivates and Vaishnavates. Another one is mukkal vettam ayyappa temple (ayyanar statue) Where Cholas retained the ancient ayyanar statue . When it lost from main deity ,people kept it as property guardian in many places. That’s how property got the term ‘Ayyam” But even today most of the rituals of Sabarimala is Aseevagam and Buddhism . Aseevaga Ayyanar Temple of Samana Traditions- 18 Steps mentions the Educational stages of Samana traditions ie) 3 stages X 6 colors for each stages. 6 colors mentioned by the Aseevaga traditions are (Black , Blue , Green , Red , Golden Yellow , White) there is 7th color mentioned in Samana concept of Education that is Neer Vannam (Colorless) or also known as Nirvana. It is those people who attain poorana Nirvana (Self realisation) are called as Ayyanars. Travelling from Black (ignorance) → White color (Self realisation) is the Education system of Aseevaga Samanas , which is depicted in sabari mala yatra Black color for Kanni saamis and White color for Guru Samy. The temple has undergone significant ritual changes after the 1950 incident. One such significant change is the restriction on entry of women. The ban was enforced under Rule 3(b) of the Kerala Hindu Places of Public Worship (Authorisation of Entry) Rules, 1965.Women used to visit the temple earlier.

തീപിടിച്ചു നശിച്ചുപോയ ശബരിമല ക്ഷേത്രം പുതുക്കി പണിതത് സ്വപ്നത്തിൽ പോലും ബ്രഹ്മചാരി ആവാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ഒരു കൃസ്ത്യാനി ആയിരുന്നു.മാവേലിക്കര പോളച്ചിറ വീട്ടിൽ കൊച്ചുമ്മൻ മുതലാളി. ഉദ്ദേശം നൂറ്റി ഇരുപത്തിമൂന്ന് വർഷം മുൻപാണ്. തീപിടിച്ചു നശിച്ച ശബരിമല ക്ഷേത്രം പുതുക്കി പണിയാൻ, തിരുവിതാംകൂർ രാജാവ് ടെൻഡർ വിളിച്ചു. ആരും ടെൻഡർ പിടിക്കാൻ വന്നില്ല. പേഷ്കാർ രാജാ രാമരായർ പലരെയും പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിച്ചുവെങ്കിലും ആരും തയ്യാറായില്ല. കാരണം ഇന്നത്തെ ശബരിമല അല്ലായിരുന്നു അന്ന്. കൊടുങ്കാട്. വഴിയില്ല. ആന, പുലി, കടുവ, മലമ്പനി, തൊട്ടപ്പുഴു. പോയാൽ തിരിച്ചു വരുമെന്ന് യാതൊരു ഉറപ്പുമില്ല. അവസാനം കൊച്ചുമ്മൻ മുതലാളി ടെൻഡർ പിടിച്ചു.1079 മകരത്തിൽ കൊല്ലം പുതുക്കുളങ്ങര കൊട്ടാര വളപ്പിൽ ക്ഷേത്രംപണി ആരംഭിച്ചു. പണിക്കുള്ള തേക്ക്, പ്ലാവ്, ചെമ്പ്, പിത്തള എന്നിവയൊക്കെ രാജാവ് കൊടുത്തു. ശ്രീകോവിൽ കായ ലോരത്തു തല്ലിക്കൂട്ടി. മഹാരാജാവ് കൊല്ലത്ത് വന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രംകണ്ട് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. തുടർന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രം അഴിച്ചു വള്ളത്തിൽ കോട്ടയത്തു കൊടിമതയെത്തിച്ചു. ടെൻഡർ പ്രകാരം റാന്നിയിലൂടെ പമ്പവഴി കൊണ്ടുപോയി ശബരിമലയിൽ എത്തിക്കാൻ ആയിരുന്നു പ്ലാൻ. പിന്നെ അതുമാറ്റി മുണ്ടക്കയം വഴിയാക്കി. കോട്ടയത്തുനിന്ന് റോഡ് വഴി എട്ടുദിവസം കൊണ്ട് എല്ലാ ഉരുപ്പടികളും മുണ്ടക്കയം പടിഞ്ഞാറേ പാറത്തോട്ടത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചു. അവിടന്ന് ശബരിമല കയറ്റം തുടങ്ങി. തോട്ടം മാനേജർ സായിപ്പ് കൊടുത്ത 250 കൂലിക്കാരും, കൊച്ചുമ്മൻ മുതലാളിയുടെ സ്വന്തം 200 പണിക്കാരും അടങ്ങിയ സംഘം. കാടുവെട്ടിയും, കൂടാരമടിച്ചും,ശരണം വിളിച്ചും, കാട്ടാനകളെയും, കടുവകളെയും ഒളിച്ചും, പേടിച്ചും, പേടിപ്പിച്ചുമായിരുന്നു യാത്ര.മുന്നിൽ മുതലാളിയുടെ അംഗരക്ഷകർപട്ടാണി സാഹേബും, തമ്പിപിള്ളയും. അതിനു പിറകിൽ മുഖ്യ അംഗരക്ഷകൻ കൊച്ചുവീട്ടിൽ കുഞ്ഞു വറീത്. അതിനു പിറകെ പണിക്കാരും ചുമടുകാരും. കരിങ്കൽ ഉരുപ്പടികൾ മുതൽ ആപ്പ് വരെ എല്ലാം തല ചുമടായി കൊണ്ടുപോയി.നാലുമാസം എടുത്തു മുണ്ടക്കയത്ത് നിന്ന് ശബരിമല എത്താൻ. കൊല്ലവർഷം1082ൽ ക്ഷേത്രംപണി പൂർത്തിയാക്കുന്നതിന് മുൻപ് കൊച്ചുമ്മൻ മുതലാളി മരിച്ചു. ക്ഷേത്രം പണി ബില്ലിൽ നിന്ന് രാജാവ് സംഖ്യ വെട്ടിക്കുറച്ചു. റാന്നി വഴി പോകുന്നതിന് പകരം മുണ്ടക്കയം വഴി പോയതിനാൽ. മുപ്പത്തി എണ്ണായിരം രൂപയോളം മുതലാളിക്ക് നഷ്ട്ടം. കൊച്ചുമ്മൻ മുതലാളിയുടെ മരണശേഷം വടക്കേത്തലക്കൽ പറമ്പിൽ സക്കറിയ കത്തനാർ ആണ് അതിന്റെ പണി പൂർത്തീകരിച്ചത്. ഓർമകൾ ഉണ്ടാവുമോ?

Sabarimala is not 500 years old but more than 1000 years old.. there are scriptures from pandya rajas when they branched to Pandalam. All temples are for a deity and each deity has a bhava. Ayyappa deity bhavam is Naishtika brahmacharya and stands alone when compared to other temples.. and not similar to other temples. It's one of the kind and therefore cannot be generalized as you mentioned.. the sole theme of this temple is thatwamasi.. which is attained when someone realize bhramha and anybody who know bhramha is a brahman. The deity is also having yogapattasana which is a pose specific for maintaining the self realized nature inline to thatvamasi concept. Since this sanctum is supposed to be maintained in the same brahmacharya state there is restrictions for ladies entries. 41 days of Vritham enables human cells to go through 2 rounds of transformation which will help to develop the right way to attain self realization.. as per the definitions to maintain brahmacharya there shud be no indulgence with ladies hence the 41 days is logical.
