Hey! How about the acoustic properties of the American English vowels? You said that vowels are better described by their acoustic properties rather than their articulatory movements. I'd like to know more about it. Please! Thanks in advance for your help!

While writing, we can make out words intended even when only the consonants are spelt out and all vowels are suppressed. Would it be right to say that in speech both components (consonants and vowels) are necessary and one alone is not enough to guess the word? Typically vowels dominate the duration of speech compared to consonants. But that may not mean vowels are enough to give any sense to guess the word.
