He managed to learn how to hide his antenas, but he didn't have time to learb how to fully hide his wings, so yeah, he made them smaller, but he still has to hold them under his clothes to make sure no one sees them. That's why he's hearing kind of metal armour all the time. It helps him keep them in place and from spreading out

So when its spread out uncontrolled most of the time it would be in his base right since non of the hermits ( except ex) know and also does he just have a safe or panic room in his base when he thinks that they are going to spread out

Actually, he hasn't spread them out in years. He dresses in a way that makes it impossible for his wings to move. It is quite painful but he got used to it. He also never learned how to actually use them, so he thinks they're useless and only remind him of bad things
