How will they stop anything when the real decisions are made by unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats (at the state's Dept. of Education and the U.S. Department of Education)? How much of the money being spent at your local school actually comes from the state and federal governments (as distinct from the property tax funds which the district handles)? ...With that money comes the bureaucratic oversight on the institutions which receive it. An American public school has at least THREE layers of bureaucracy above it. The elected officials have relatively little administrative control. It's time (beyond time) to ABOLISH state-administered ("public") schooling. We abolished state churches a long time ago; the same principle should be invoked to get rid of state schooling.

Typically, in any given school board election, 90 people show up to vote in my small town. This past March nearly 300 people showed up to vote against them, but they somehow magically managed to get more than 300 votes in their favor. The school board counts the votes.

@@alexxx6297 I think you're fighting a losing battle here. These parents are teaching their children that their rights are more important than others' rights. Their anti-mask rhetoric is really an extension of their second amendment rights. They're basically saying that one person's right to bear arms is greater than another person's right to life. Anti-maskers are just taking it further. They're saying that the 2A should make it legal to fire rounds into a crowd. Same thing with masks. They believe that their right to be free of a mask is more important than the rights of others to not contract a deadly disease in the midst of a pandemic. They often say "if you're scared, then stay home." In other words, their rights to move about freely and maskless are more important than the rights of all members of society to move about freely with a mask. As an educator, I can't help but wonder what it would have been like if all of these passionate parents had grabbed hold of this opportunity to teach their children the benefits of putting the needs of society over the needs of self. I think that the lessons learned by former generations, to put country over self -- by virtue of being drafted and made to die for their country -- would have come at such a small price (wearing a mask), but they rejected the opportunity! Teaching instead selfishness.
