I'd be curious what you mean by "support" because if I had the support I needed to keep the channel afloat, instead of hemorrhaging money, I'd still be doing it.

@@AzrielKnight I'm sorry to hear that you've stopped. I always enjoyed watching and will remain subscribed in the hope that you will continue again. Of course I understand that it must also be profitable for you. In any case, thank you for your efforts over the past few years!

There was another Kodak CD product that came out in the late 90’s that apparently you can still get today if you go to CVS, and that is called “Kodak Picture CD.” It’s more universal than the Photo CD as it stores jpeg images from film instead of the proprietary file format the Photo CD used. Maybe you can do a video about that in the future

I tried Photo CDs a couple of times in the mid-nineties before getting my own film scanner in early 1997. Photo CDs were kind of expensive, but by far the cheapest option to get good (decent) quality scans at the time. Agree that the CD-players were expensive but remember that all electronics were more expensive than now, even without factoring in inflation. Personally, I had no interest in the CD players and used the Photo CDs in a CD-ROM-player in my PC. Worked well enough. The largest size image on a normal Photo CD is around 6MP from files that are around 5MB in size. That file contains the image in multiple sizes including the largest 6MP one. Of course, if you save the file as 24 bit uncompressed file like BMP or TIF you end up with a 18MP file. To get higher resolution image you'd have to get a Photo CD Pro. I didn't see anyone offering the Pro-version (it was a real format so somebody probably did), but not sure if the higher res was offered for 35mm scans or for medium format (or both). Even my first film scanner a Nikon LS-1000 with 2700dpi did a much better job than the scans I got from the Photo CD. Maybe an unfair comparison as I could teak the scans from my own scanner while the Photo CD was a more or less automatic process. The Nikon scanner also had higher resolution and bit depth and allowed scanning directly to uncompressed formats.

It’s interesting that this featured an early and seemingly rare early usage of the term “digital photography” I’d like to point out that the term “analog photography” is also almost never heard of until recent history. If we’re being honest, I kindof hate how much it has caught on and become part of the common parlance.

My kids were watching a KZbin channel for kids where the parent and child will be silly and play silly games. They setup silly scenarios to include toys and candy. They have over a million subs and I thought, “man, having to pump out content on a regular basis for years would be exhausting “. This and having the channel cost money, I can see why you would stop. I had a thought though (I’m sure you’ve thought this already). Something about your demeanor/voice is calming and relaxing. Not to sound weird but it seems to fit these retro subjects. Kinda like Forensic Files TV show, it takes me back to the 80/90s lol. Anyway, I wounded if you expanded the subject beyond photography? I know that’s your thing but maybe it would bring in a broader audience. Have you considered this? Or possibly there are other reasons for not maintaining a channel.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't usually reply to comments anymore but I think this warranted a reply. Doing this KZbin channel for eights years was a long time, regardless of the subject. I also did another channel early on for almost two years. Totaling ten years that's long to do anything. I think I was just ready to move on to other things. I watched the state of the social media landscape drastically change and I simply don't want to be a part of it, but I have not ruled out the possibility of using my voice for something else in the future as I have heard before that it was an untapped talent. Right now I'm just focusing on the parts of my life I neglected when putting all my eggs into the internet basket. I'm so much happier than I was a year ago, you'll have to trust me on that. Being compelled to record your life is daunting, invasive and depressing when you need to put on a face, on a schedule for an algorithm. I always said "stay classic" but now I'm living it.

the cd-i being so expensive makes sense when you think of it as the gameconsole/media device it was trying to be... Of course it wasn't a good game console, but if it never existed we wouldn't have the meme worthy Zelda games from that system

Prices quoted in this video did not last. I bought a Kodak CD 270 for $100 in 1992. By that time Kodak must have concluded that the Photo CD was a bad idea.
