Open AI dota2 bots have surpassed humans. Even with say a 450-600 apm cap, an aoe2 bot can surpass us. I think the dota bots had insane tactical plays and not just optimal strategies.

To date, AI is only as good as the data you use to train the algorithm with. As a result, if you invest enough time & money, you will in theory be able to design an AI that can beat Hera, Viper, etc. But as soon as you use any map where the algorithm has not yet been trained, on a "pro" player will always win.

@@paulh462 well they use some variants of reinforcement learning, play numerous games vs themselves and create their own meta.

@@nemes1s_aoe What you say is 100% true. However: The "meta" that AI arrives at does not necessarily have to be better than the Pro players Meta. In fact, without training the algorithm with good information, this probably won't happen.
