Thanks for your videos. This one I have seen three times, you are really proff, and I like yourexplanations ofte trike. I'm an Norwegian an I think I maybe at about your age. I was a well trained man until I got a bad neck injury 23 years ago and I'm very sensitive for small vibrations that causes all my strength to be lost in my legs. Not the vibrations like we have on gravel roads, but the small vibrations allmost nobody notice on asphalt roads, and the suspension is not enough, this is the pillow cushion we only get from the tires also on a car. I dont think I would like to have a full suspension fat Trike. And Ti-Fly X is the only normal trike you can have up to 3" tires like your 2.8", and on trails and gravel roads I think your 3x26" wheel must be a good choice. Thanks for your videos and good advice. Regards Arne

John , I’ve been subscribed to Black Bear for a couple of years now, and I always enjoy your projects. I’ve been looking at trikes for the last year or so, and have yet to pull the trigger. I’ve watched countless videos about the various brands and configurations. Yesterday a video popped up titled Azub ti fly x and I clicked on it...5 seconds in I see you on a trike and wonder what the hell is John Switzer doing in an Azub video then you started talking and I looked at the channel name. Wow! And of course in a few minutes you explain all about them more clearly and concisely than all previous videos. Most importantly you demonstrated just how much damn fun they are. It’s too bad your first career wasn’t as a teacher, you could have shaped a lot of young minds with your thoughtful and creative approach to sharing your knowledge. Thanks again...and keep the great videos coming

Thanks for the presentation. I have a Tifly 26 with Rohloff hub, and I would like to share an experience. I found the Rohloff chain tensioner a real pain when taking of the rear wheel. For such a brilliant piece of kit( the speedhub) the Rohloff tensioner is a mismatch, as if it was a last minute after thought. I did some digging and came up with an expensive but much more user friendly tensioner. It has a clutch and lock out system.that enables the chain to be loosened. It does need to be loosened so you can remove the rear wheel, but it does make remounting the wheel much easier. I also found it much(Very quiet) quieter running than the Rohloff tensioner. As I said its expensive but it is heaps more user friendly its the SB one GC3( you did need to upgrade to a 9 speed chain if your running an 8 speed chain).

@@JohnSwitzer I've found a recumbent dealer near me, and am looking at taking a short road trip to visit them. I do like the shifting feature of your Azub. I've fought the sequential shift on my old Cannon dale, and it's a pain. Being able to shift any gear to any gear sounds great. I've only ridden a stationary recumbent (exercise bike at the health club), and need to experience a real one first hand before I can decide... Thanks for putting up all the info on your bikes. It helps to see another perspective.

Thanks John for sharing your experience with Ti-Fly X. I’m also considering ordering one, although I don’t have access to test drive one in Finland. How do you find Ti-Fly X steering stability versus other trikes you have driven? I mean, for example on straight gravel/paved roads, is trike stable and doesn’t need much of steering forces from driver to go straight? I test drove Azub non suspension model T-Tris AR with 3x26” wheels and that felt great and turning radius was surprisingly small. Also my current trike HP Velotechnic Scorpion 20" is good and stable to drive.

Under pedal power on a flat road I have done about 18mph. Coasting down a steep downhill I have done 33mph. Higher gearing options would make it faster, but we like having more low end for the hills

I have a Stein Wild One full suspension trike. It's a 26 X 20" wheels set-up with a Bafang 750W motor system my battery is hanging on one of the rear chainstays using a T-cycle support system, very sturdy and keeps the weight low. Dude no way 70 miles on one battery unless you don't use it or ride it down a mine shaft. 30mi is more like it and at that never using "boost" level. I have used Shimano E-Steps systems in the past, they are good but limited. Secondly larger wheels on the front, (and yes I did that too) make the/a trike way easier to tip over in a aggressive turn. I ride my Stein down logging/double track hills here in Oregon at 30mph +. Believe me you not only NEED full suspension but smaller wheels for stability. Third, have a Rohloff 14 speed hub too, it's hanging on the wall and frankly it sucks, the manual grip shift shifter is the worst, slow, and un-precise at best. I changed out to 1 X 11 Shimano DI2 GRX/XT/XTR set-up. Much better push-button shifting even under full motor load. I'm trying to figure out what I can use the Rohloff hub for (besides wall art) cause it's no use for real off-road triking and aggravating on road use because of the crappy mechanical twist grip shifter, (and yes, yes, yes I had it adjusted correctly it just plain sucks for any kind of quick accurate quick-shifting, Di2 is far more precise and satisfying, even with a der hanging out there in the woods). I've tried to find a electronic shifting mech for it but the only thing out there is in conjunction with a Bosch motor system on a Reese-Muller. No stand-alone push-button system available, too bad too as that would make the hub far more attractive to use. I really like the Ti suspension system though, how much travel do you get? From the vid it looks like what? 20/30mm? The biggest problem I have is rear-wheel traction, I've got the fattest 26" tire on back that I can fit but center of gravity is too far forward for the really steep loose rock climbs, I've yet to figure out what is going to work best. I do real mountain triking on my Stein, let's see what you've got

John Switzer Thank you John. More info please. I have on my trike tongsheng motor and a throttle and I like it. I’m looking to buy another trike but it has the shimano and no throttle. The dealer says not to worry, that in turbo level all you have to do is keep the pedals moving and it works like a throttle. Is that really an accurate ? Thanks.
@JohnSwitzer4 жыл бұрын
I don't think thats real accurate. Your speed is entirely dependent on how fast you pedal. Its easier in the higher assist level. But if you are just keeping the pedals moving you will be going very slow. Pedaling uphill still takes some effort and you need to be in a lower gear. See if they have something you can test ride.
