The true end game is collecting ships, discovering your favorites and then appreciating the 'cultured art' you find online :) These girls are the best, for how little dialogue they actually have the depth to some of them have is pretty damn good! Also, there truly is a super complicated fleet building aspect to the game when you get to high level maps and bosses that's just waaay more intense than expected. It literally took months of careful planning, collecting specific gear, going for specific ships and building a fleet with what was within reach of my own account to launch an assault against world 13. Then it took many months after that successful campaign to beat world 14 as the requirements we're completely different. I can't wait for the next world, but I have a feeling I'm now so far along and have collected so much, my current dock might have just enough power to complete it...

Hey, this is a pretty good intro guide for new players. I've been playing for a couple years now, just about getting through the slog that is World 14 (may it rest in pieces), finished a couple of the Operation-Siren bosses and I'm now guiding two of my buddies through the game, so not exactly a veteran just yet, but I'd like to think I am. The biggest thing that I feel is missed in the video is the importance of good equipment, basically every ship in the game is good enough up to a point with the proper equipment. I nearly doubled my damage output on the lvl15 Meta ship fights by just switching out my guns for the proper ammo types. HE is the go to for most enemies as it does the best damage against light armour and reasonable damage against heavy and medium armour. AP is the go to for medium or heavy armours, while HE is fine for everything, an AP gun does 15%+ more damage against mediums and 20%+ against heavy armour compared to HE. SAP is a weird one, its only on certain Italian guns and absolutely shreds medium armour, a good 15-20%+ boost over AP, while against light armour it is not quite as good as HE, against heavy armour is where it utterly fails, doing basically half damage compared to AP. Until about world 9-10 it really doesnt matter what you run as equipment as you can really just over level your fleets to the point your ships will just go John Wick on the enemies with a pencil, world 11 and 12 is where equipment really starts to matter, gold or nothing really takes over at the end of W12.World 13 and 14 are the point you need to be thinking about what armour type bosses are and how to best counter them. Another thing to mention is the main enemies of each world, up until world 11 public enemy #1 is the bombing ships/fire ships/suicide ships, whatever they are called. In W12 and W13 it is airplanes, one of my aforementioned underlings is currently on W12 and is having trouble switching to having massive amounts of AA, even with me telling him to prepare some high AA ships before hand. For me the switch was good as I had a bunch of super high AA ships in my fleets already so W12 was easier than W11. I have now realised this is getting out of the scope of a comment on a new player guide and more a rant on the game in general. :)

What drew me to this game was obviously the art work and the ship New Jersey that ( i will probably never get lol) I have a mail box full of stuff that i cant even claim because i have too much oil. I also heard that the game was not p2w and free to play friendly which is a big plus for me. i hope to get good.

i started playing the game 2 or 3 days before the fourth anniversary and that new ship event was there too and now after 1 month or so i am lvl 51 with 9 or so sr ships (got all the new ship girls from the event also requested enterprise as the 4th anniversary gift and formidable from wishing well and also did a week of fox mining for the fox due and got Montpelier, z46, san Diego from medal of honor and also got tosa and minneapolis from regular pull ) for a f2p guy like me this is a very big thing that no other gacha does and i am close to retrofitting san diego in just a month and making her my first UR SHIP this is a very rewarding game for the time you put into it

you get reruns for events you missed, then will be in war archives (which is where past events are put permanently so you can farm for whatever it has that you want). ships will eventually make it in the perma pools, and new players are given lotsa stuff to help starting up. moreover, the game's very f2p friendly and devs are generous, so it's worth playing for a new player.

Another tip for new players: Get Enterprise ASAP When you need overwhelming damage without being locked out to limited events and collabs is a huge life saver. She's always good when you're starting out and even when you're in the lategame. She easily outdamages the 2 Rainbow Aircraft Carriers just with her 1 skill alone if you have decent gear.

Additionally, if you get essex, she is a better enty for damage. Being a Essex class she does loose out on the owarida skill but she can put up a wall of torps, carpet bombs the front half, and will be your sandy retro but carrier form.

You forgot, that Chapter 3-4 drops Kaga, and Akagi which offers you a decent starting of a SSR CV, which can helps you early on with their skills. Since if both of them are on the same fleet, they would be able proc their skills and launch your aviation by 50% faster for their first airstrike. Also, manual gives you 20% more damage boost for your battleship first salvo. Edit: Overall, nice work on the review. A very casual review.

Even for later in the game Akagi and Kaga can go pretty far. I replaced Haku/Shinano with Akagi/Kaga in my guild boss fleet and they managed to kill the 'hard' boss all the same.

Great video. Even though I have been playing consistently since Feb 2019, I totally understand pretty much every shortcoming you mentioned. This game is definitely hard to get into as a new player due to the sheer number of systems, knowledge barriers, and the less than engaging gameplay. However, I still think everyone should give it a shot. The community heavily carries the enjoyment here, as well as the characters. The sole reason I even started playing back then was so that I could obtain Sirius, a cute maid.

it's very F2P friendly, nice art and community, also nice developer and publisher, etc. If you just started and don't know what to do, just join the community, they have lot of guide for new player (usually I search and ask this in discord), and old player as well as nice art post daily (usually I see this in fb), and other social media. I'm started 8 months ago, and already reach level 101, with too much SR ships that I probably won't use it at all lol.

One thing that makes Azur Lane different from other gacha game, it's an in-between auto & manual game You can choose how much you handle the game, from fully control it, just selecting the enemies, or fully automatic (search & fight) While many other games don't even offer auto mode, some even have stage skip feature And that flexibility on control that makes me stuck in AL JP for years

I actually started less then 3 days before the 4 year anniversary to be honest I'm more sad I missed some of the collab ships (I have hope but its low). But have enjoyed this experience so far. I'm a fish when it comes to spending so I throw in small amounts here and there but never go overboard cause what cubes I do use I end up getting back shortly. As someone who retired form GFL I wanted something fairly new at this point. And AL has been fun so far.

I recently came back after 2 years of not playing, I quit around the end of 2nd anniversary, and I was quite surprised with the new QOL features that made it even more hands off, which is good for me since most of my ships were already properly geared for auto battles. It's just pretty sad to see my 98.5% collection rate drop to 74%, considering collabs never rerun in this game (RIP Mujina and Neptunia)

For new players reading this: 3-4 is a grinding spot for getting akagi and kaga, those 2 are a old combo in which you use for exercises. As a veteran from super close to release day here are a few takes: *Drop rate is good unlike all gacha games in the market(Still currently, they pioneer the pity system, but why need pity if you get the ship in 50 pulls?). *You dont auto on stages that are too hard, at one point you will need to manual all of it, you will only auto when you are sure any of your ships dont die *Those events missed are in "archives" and old enough event ships goes to standard pull area(like IJN Nagato) *You only use things below purple if you are trying to save some oil grinding out stages(like 3-4) *APOLOGEMS from time to time, cubes too, even if you leave and come back there is always something in your mailbox aside from the typical returnee stuff *Levelling the commander will be the pain later on as it locks you from the better daily stages. *You will save up those exp things on UR ships or ships you like for your line up quickly, you decorate the dorm and put those new ships on the first level commission to level them(they level quite fast with a good dorm) *except UR ships, you get materials for getting SR and elite ships weekly from weekly activity(doing things in game that can be autoed later or skipped).

they added a lot of past events as permanent now and a lot of ships are in permanent pull now. that might be a bad thing, but it also means no more waiting for banners and stuff. I’ve been playing since first year anniversary and took very long breaks for the duration of 3rd to 4th anniversary and i already got pretty caught up with stuff in just 1 day of playing. so if me, a person who basically didn’t play for a whole year can still get into the game, a new player can too. ofc it will take a lot more time and stuff, but if you like the ship girls, then that is all that is needed for you to enjoy the game. also, laffey, nimi (z23), and javelin are all still not bad and can still carry you through the beginning of the story. also, even the current events, there is normal mode (basically easy mode) so new players can get into it easily just after 1-2 weeks of playing

I checked back on this game recently and I'm surprised how much cleaner everything looks, for reference the UI looks completely different to me. Seems to still be going strong. Unfortunately I figured out pretty early the gameplay is not my thing. Though the most difficult thing for me is actually the storage needed is pretty insane (7GB, apparently more with voice files). What I will say is this game has wayyy better gacha rates than newer games despite it being older and the PNGs are godlike. The game should actually be 5 years old going by CN/JP dates though

I have been playing for 3 years and I barely play on my 1st year not knowing any mechanics or everything, I have to say you don't need to spend a single penny to get every new ship for every new banner well of course as new player you not going to have all those resources from get go, the only thing I ever spend for this game honestly skin, skin, skin and more skin. As a new player don't get to overwhelmed with all the mechanics and all the ships just play at your own pace really, it's a chill and fun game.

I got into this game in april of 2020, right dab smack in the middle of microlayer medley, and what can i say? It has been a fun ride, three years went by sooo fast. Of course, me having new player syndrome, was at first confused and overwhelmed, but thanks to the AL Ytubers and the community, was able to get around it and have loads of fun. As someone who's been playing for like a year and not really caring about the meta, yes it's worth playing. You can get through pretty much 90% of the game with just random ships. And by the time that you reach world 13 or 14, you should be able to muster up decent enough fleets to get through them.

Have been playing Azur Lane for almost 3½ years and don't regret a minute of it. But I think as a new player you will be a bit overwhelmed by all the functions. But if you don't let that deter you, in my opinion you have one of the fairest and best Free2play games in front of you. Provided you like this type of games. I played Azur lane since 2018 and I recently came back after a one and a half year break. I was really sad at how overtaxed i was with all the new stuff that has been added and all the ships i missed in that time. It was soulcrushing and I couldn't bring myself to commit to it again. The only thing that draws me to Azur Lane now is nostalgia but I realized I have to let it go. Sometimes I wish the game would release again without all the updates (except the UI overhaul) and I can play again from the start with all players being on the same page.

One thing's about azur lane for me as a late game player is that the game is a background game (or Idle game if you want to call it that). Because there's the auto-search thing to anticipate playing the same stages repetitively if you want to farm exp or items.

This game is very friendly to beginners and mechanics are so simple. Also throughout the years, there have been a lot of QoL improvements (ex. auto search, revamped UI, etc. etc.) + company's very generous to its player base. Spending in this game wouldn't really affect anything compared to other games where spending more = stronger characters

To be honest, I don't think it's worth to play Azur Lane today, talking from old player perspective, not because Azur Lane is a bad game by any means, but because today's competition on gacha style waifu baiting mobile genre is way ahead of what Azur Lane can offer. I have been playing the game almost since launch, and Azur Lane is today the same game it was 4 years ago, some new mechanics here and there, but the actual game has not changed, and I don't mean in a matter of gameplay, even tho I wish they put more game modes with special ships, like stages using only Aircraft Carriers or Submarines (to make subs actually useful), but in a matter of what Azur Lane can offer, being nothing more than a waifu hunting game with lewd skins. I'm not gonna go full unfair here and say "look genshin is a open world 3D mobile game so Azur Lane should not be as great", Genshin is on a league on it's on and its not about gameplay that I'm talking about, rather I'll make comparissons with other two games that are simple on how they play, but way superior on what they can offer in character and player experience, that are Princess Connect and Blue Archive. Princess Connect being originally a game from 2018 (JP ver) offer a lot of in game content to consume, specially regards story, I find it amazing how Priconne not only has a great story but a fully voiced one, and every single character in the game has at least 4 chapters of stories for themselves, and they keep getting more as they receive alt versions and upgrades, it's content to consume for months and not be bored about as they keep releasing more and more, the gameplay there is also simple, but with the element of raids and bosses that are really fun to do, and Blue Archive did the same thing, copied Priconne in many aspects but with the skin of girls with guns in 3D models, and there the exact same thing happen, all characters getting good treatment when it comes to lore and character interaction, you actually build a connection with them after learning and reading hours of content about those characters, and this is the biggest reason I barely play AL today, I don't feel any connection with who I'm playing, AL has way to many characters, way to many stuff happening and you can't create the same connection with them, in AL a character there has only two things, a dozen of voicelines and a bellow average event lore that doesn't aggregate nothing, and if you want some more voicelines buy the limited skin, a ring and be lucky to get a few more voicelines later, how am I supposed to enjoy the game like this? even if its just a waifu collector, like many say, what is the reason why I'm collecting all these waifus if they are so easy forgetable? Old characters got the privilege of being iconic, Atago, Enterprise, Laffey, Prinz Eugen, they will be remembered forever, but you can't say the same about 90% of the more than 600 characters the game has, it is way to much stuff happening to way to few stuff being actually relevant, I often see some people complainning about how some characters receive far too few artworks by the community, and that's the problem, they are forgetable, Emden is a character that I liked a lot, but no one seems to remember her now, they moved on, now it's Musashi (while no one cares about the 6 other characters in the event), two weeks later will be another half a dozen of characters and so on, no connection was made. With all of this, I'm not saying "don't play Azur Lane", AL still a good game to waste a bit of time, but sooner or later you'll noticed how even tho the game has that many characters to enjoy and choose as "the perfect waifu", you'll also noticed how shallow these characters are, of course with exceptions, but in no time you'll be disappointed that a character that you like so much is one of these shallow characters, unfortunately I have many of these, that why I'm not even interested in getting new characters anymore and since the main core of the game content is getting new characters I'm barely playing.

One of the best things that A.L has Is the actual gacha system in comparison to others (B.A, GFL, A.G, Arknights) getting cubes Is fairly easy and you get at least 1-2 ships from the banners without expending tons of cubes...unlike those other games I mentioned

Spammed a bunch of time speed running vanguard's event since I joined the game after seeing her maid outfit. Turns out I was VERY late to the event and it only had like 1 week left. Without spending money i had to speedrun basically everything and by some luck got her on the last day. Afterwards i continued playing the game cuz i got bored of other gacha games. (quite alot). Arknights, Genshin Impact, Demon Blade, Dx2 Liberators, Figure Fantasy. (last three aren't that recognizable). However, the main reason i chose Azur lane over Blue Archive was the gameplay and ease of playing. Although it's not p2w, the skins are very hard to obtain as a f2p. Though free trial for skins exist. Overall game experience is fun and you can still get far without past meta ships. It's definitely one of the more generous gacha games out there, in comparison to those i've played before. But, Arknights is the only game to rival Azur Lane in terms of story and Gameplay and even f2p-ness of skins. Thnx for listening to my TED talk. tl;dr worth it for waifu.

I recently played it on December 2022. I always wanted to play it but back then I had a cheap game and it didn’t had enough storage. I got a new and better phone and the storage takes to much to load. I always wanted to get the Nintendo Switch one but same thing, the storage. Until I gota a new and much better phone, I finally got it, but it’s the second app that takes the most storage. But I’m ok, I still have enough storage. And also I like the game

Absolute worth it for new players. I've been playing since 2018 and I can tell you one thing. The QoL is way better now than before. The gatcha rate is overall pretty generous compared to other games. The mechanics on the other hand could get boring due to their repetitiveness and just 2D scrolling. For an end-game player such as myself, you probably would be spending time collecting more waifus, doing operation sirens for UR gear and just keep building your girls. Bonus content, this game is massive fan service and culturally ready to fulfil your inner beast desire lol. RECOMMENDED.

I've been playing since release when I got a discord message about the game. I have a 100% collection rate (including every Collab ship), all my PR ships through 4 are complete and I have almost every SSR ship at level 120. These days I rarely buy new skins and I work on collecting .... Gear Skins. Yes, I bought the extra dorm slots, academy slots, and tons of dock space of course, but all that stuff was completely optional and not gacha. There IS gameplay mechanics you must master, but until you get to the endgame nothing really teaches them to you. Grinding for Elite and SSR drops is really the most grueling thing in AL if you ask me. But, you're here for the T and A, I mean.... Come on.

Its a game wherein you have to learn alot thats generally not even explained. Luckily for anyone new and who has the patience for it, there are a couple of good discords you can go into and learn the game. Its deceptively simplistic, from gear that can make or break a ship or fleet compositions that can deal 1.4m damage within a minute of combat. Id agree it gets time to get used to and there are alot of rewards for new players to keep them up to speed. There are alot of resource traps though, rarity in this game mean absolutely nothing, there are gear that you would use for a long time(sb2c helldiver is a purple gear that Ive been using for years now) No matter how you play it, is your choice. Either go the sweaty try hard min-maxing every second counts one shot builds or just plain waifu collector then this game has lots to offer having more than 500 ships to collect.

My girlfriend has just started playing, i have been playing since 2020 and she's really enjoying it! I think that making progress is faster now than when i started but there is also a LOT more content and stuff to do than back then. SO i think it's still worth it, and the events are nice, the skins are cute and hot and the shipgirls will always be top waifu material

As a 3 year old azur lane shikikan who recently missed the 4th anniv and have been playing since 2019 probably It was and now still good to play decently starter friendly *VERY* returnee friendly and very f2p unless you want skins, those are practically finding an oasis in a dessert where you may be able to receive gems in events or maintenance compensation

The biggest problem I have is the slog of getting through a world. Using a bot to clear levels makes the game so so much better. I wish it had that quality of life that you can just auto complete levels like autoing fights. Until it gets something like that I can't recommend even though everything else about the game is amazing.

Bad point: this game is extremely grindy, like really, really grindy, especially for high map and PR ship. Its really hard to lvl up characters, and good luck trying to beat high map since the damage enemy did scale by the lvl differences if you're under level. You need specific set of ship for certain map making some nation fleet are useless on that area, so you really need lots of high lvl ship to move forward since there's no one size fits all fleet. I've played 3 pretty big gatcha game, summoners wars, genshin, and AL, and I can confidently say AL is the most time consuming of all 3. Good point: this game is generous af, pretty nice gatcha rate too. The worse for me so far is trying to get nagato back then, which need like 400 cube ( 200 pulls ), which is really nice for gatcha standard at that time. Item you can dismount for free, no substat rng for item you grind (which is equivalent for runes in SW and artifacts in genshin) so you got what you works for, tho there still item drop rng, which is not bad since you can auto farm.

actually the game seems like 5 times or so less grindy than it was 4 years ago. now, for the actual farm/grind you can set the map to auto complete itself entirely afk. in my opinion it has done a good job at making the early game easier while making the newer chapters difficult enough to require manual play upon first clears. the one part that makes Azur lane easy on the grind is that half a ship's performance depend on the equipment, and in this game equipment is fully transferable unlike for instance arknights where every single resource spent in a character will be stuck in that character. then when you combine sharing equipment with the instant exp objects, a ship will be ready for use almost on first day. PR ships are a long term investment but they are also 0 effort to max out, they are basically a reward for continuous log in.

The Auto-Farm feature makes grinding much much easier. But yes, you're phone will be grinding instead of doing something else. That said, I don't mind it too much. With these big events, like the UR event tomorrow, I've had them grinding world 12-4 so I have plenty of cash to spend through the event ensuring I get Musashi. Because the game actually does NOT reward whales. You CANNOT use credit-card kun to purchase enough gold and cubes from the cash shop to pity UR ship. There actually isn't enough purchaseable resources if you start from 0.

I've played the game for 3 years since the anniversary and have 100% dock space. Compared to other gatcha games this one is pretty generous in regards to how often it rewards a player for playing the game. If it's your main game you could choose to go the "only best route and collect all the gold tier + characters" for free and do well and if you want to collect everything like pokemon you have to spend money to have the space for it. You are rewarded for collecting over time by small increases in stats which some are more important then others like reload. I avoid other gatchas mainly do to looking at rates & gameplay (lost my interest in turn based.) While I agree the gameplay here isnt top tier and auto in some cases will do better then me in damage centered/grinding content, I like pairing characters/weapons. Also, if you are working at a desk job grinding on auto is possible without paying attention to your phone (a reason why mobile games make money despite bad gameplay).

Played for like an year or more and just got really bored since theres not really anything to do ever except grind levels and the occasional event and thats it. I really hate it when gachas make leveling up part of the content so they don't have to actually give you events to do.

U hurt my very soul every time u said “unit”. Pls stop saying it in regards to our beautiful waifus in AL from now on pls. But anyways as a veteran and have been in end game for a long time I can safely say that endgame primarily consists of: - grinding for EXP, gear, shipfus, and resources. - attempting to beat content (mainly bosses) that r hard af and r fucking impossible to beat for any1 who isn’t already into the endgame. The kinda content that makes manual play pleasant and auto brutal and painful on the best of days. - enjoying and taking care of our waifus and loving them to bits. - chat is horni, chat is weird, we love to chat. Also yostar revealed that they r in the process of developing a roguelike feature for AL so SKK who play so much they don’t have much else to do have more things to do and be happy. I’m so happy and excited for that feature to be released when it’s ready. I absolutely love OS and I feel like I might enjoy this new future feature as much or more. A So why u be so mean to my girl Long Island. She may be nowhere near the strongest but she does not need to be replaced so damn early on. She stayed in my fleet til well after W13 released. And nowadays with the new better gear, special weapons, and subs she can be able to be used for longer than ever b4 and still do just fine. With how long I’ve used Long Island I’ve seen her 2 skills proc consecutively over 50 times. My phone had a hard time computing such outrageous shenanigans.

@@Endrillon W11 can be cleared with common shipfus and while it is sketchy W12 can also be cleared with common shipfus. I only stopped using comet and crescent for everything when I tried W13 on release and realized those 2 r not quite strong enuf for W13 unless I had raised the best shipfus which I hadn’t back then. Nowadays I just sneeze on W13 and everything dies damn near instantly. I did eventually drum up the courage and tried my hand on W13 again and I didn’t realize how much stronger my shipfus and gear had become. Once I came up with the idea of using bulins in my mob fleet I smoked W13 like it wasn’t even there. Rn when farming 13-4 for coins I just make sure the fleets I’m using r at least lv120 each and have unicorn and a bulin in the mob fleet and Perseus and sandy in the boss fleet and that every1 has top of the line gear. At this point I have nearly 200 lv120+ shipfus in my dock. And around 130ish wives too. Wat about u?

The reason i have so many lv120+ shipfus is cuz ive been playing for so long that my dorm has been able to do alot of work and ive had the time and oil to grind lots. I dont spend much money on oil as i dont want to most of the time and others cuz i have enuf. The amount of money ive spent on oil isnt all too far off from wat oil i never used on grinding EXP back in the day when i was casual and found the vast amount of oil i had was too much so it went to dorm food. Nowadays i usually have low oil mkst of the time and the only time i got lots is on monday but by tuesday or wednsday its all gone pretty near. There was a time where i had a hard time having less then 10k oil cuz i idnt grind enuf. But now im drueling over getting 10k oil as i want it lots. Thanx to the oil caps it makes it alot easier that 11-1 is the best main stoty map to farm exp now. Ive got a few gurls who reached lv120 without even seeing a single sortie cuz i left them in the dorm the whole time. It takes a few months with 400+ comfort and lv110+ commander lv. Also how many skins have u bought?
