I'd love if you also could analyse in future discussions the concept of "social imperialism", that is so important both historically (in the alleged case of the USSR) and in the present discussions inside the left (in the alleged case of the PRC). What is it? Why and how it develops? Is it something inherently tied to the development of socialism, or can it be avoided? If so, how? Does it applied/apply to the aforementioned cases? Why or why not? Always a pleasure to listen to both of you, I believe you both are the most nuanced and friendly content creators in the Marxist KZbin community.

I'm too left out to be part of the revolution. I think depression has overtaken me, I'm single with no friends circle and clinging onto a job disinterestedly as it could be. Recently I became more than involved in a revolutionary party but today I think what little spirit I had also died, I missed a critical meeting today. I'm done with life. One thing I just wanna say to you guys is that it's quite hard to get rid off Market Capitalism which has evolved into Crony Capitalism as of now.....maybe I'm too pessimist...
@grmpEqweer3 жыл бұрын
So... depression is something a lot of us grapple with. My suggestions: -If you can, exercise. -Reach out to someone. Mind you, talking about what you're depressed about may or may not be helpful. You might want to just get out and do something recreational with someone, the idea being to push yourself to "get out of your thoughts" for a bit. -basic breathing meditation can help, although expect it to take about a month of daily practice before it really has a good effect. (The positive effect is proven in research) -consider medication, if you're not already on it. -consider therapy. -see if there's free support groups available. Best of luck.

"What should leftists do when faced with a choice between social democracy and stopping imperialism" Well, the way I got pushed out of social democracy as an American was realizing the people of the US had pitiful access to productive jobs or businesses that wouldn't treat them like shit. I realized that the rhetoric about "The Welfare State!!" was a little bit true for entirely the wrong reasons - people often just want a tolerable job they could do with whatever disability they might have that allows them to participate in society and have some degree of control over an industry they care about, while being given a teeny welfare payment that's not enough _and_ having no say in the decisions made about the goods and services you use could be very insulting. I would question the Social Democrat policies for whether they actually allow a whole lot more people the opportunity to enter some impenetrable "The Industry" created by a bunch of capitalists, have a productive job that treats them well, and make a real difference in that industry, in order to earn more money "fairly" for contributing to society. If a lot of people will stay unemployed or with no chance to change "The Industry" for a bunch of different fields, the policy is bad and inadequate. If somebody doesn't understand that idea for another country, you take it back to their own and ask them if the policy is helping nobody at all.

I'm actually referring to myself) to get through reading Marx's work alone? Right now, the only access I have to this information is KZbin. hey, i'm pretty new to socialism/communism, but i'm pretty convinced of the idea and really want to learn about it. i just have the question, how do luxury articles work in a socialist/communist society, for example (as you mentioned in another video) a nintendo switch? technically there is no need to produce it and companies like nintendo wouldnt exist with the urge to make more money. and btw i love your videos :) you really helped me come closer to communism
@untraceablefgc-9mkii2513 жыл бұрын
So, i'm not that well versed in theory yet, but i don't think there's a single answer, It really depends on the details of how the specific system that you set up works.
@tsumugijohnson32203 жыл бұрын
Different people will answer differently. I think creating art is part and parcel of any well-functioning society and as such that could definitely be part of a socialist/communist system. The nature of video games will probably change from attempting to squeeze as many pennies out of a player by making them gambling addicts, to attempting to make something good (which is consciously left ambiguous).
@mikamol8403 жыл бұрын
@@tsumugijohnson3220 so would it be a thing of when some people get together and try to invent something, for example the nintendo switch, the state would fund it and sell it, with the profits going to the state? because if the inventors would get the money, wouldn't it be sorta capitalistic again? sorry if my questions are kind of dumb, its just a topic that i really dont understand yet
@hotlinerevachol54363 жыл бұрын
not exactly, luxury articles like a nintendo switch are a complex matter, as they exist both as a tool of alienation from one's material conditions through certain escapists fantasies found in video games, as well as a ordinary leisurely and artistic activity controlled, manufactured, and distributed by the capitalist class, because of that, the role of something like a video game console would more or less be, first and foremost, taken back into the hands of the proletariat, in a purely industrial sense, where as the cultural and design philosophy of a video game console, and video games as a whole, would be rethought by a newly developed intellectual movement under socialism. tl:dr workers would make nintendo switches, albeit under better conditions and with a new design philosophy inspired by a socialist society and culture.
@hotlinerevachol54363 жыл бұрын
@@mikamol840 shorter answer this time, but basically, under socialism, (a non-anarchist kind in this case), the state would directly and indirectly support the arts and other cultural aspects, even if they aren't profitable, which would include video games, and without the profit motive oppressing creative freedoms of game devs like under capitalism, socialist game devs would be freer in their choices and works.
