B.B. King Lucille Legacy

The Gibson Custom Shop is excited to bring the legendary Gibson B.B. King Lucille back to life as a core Artist model in the ES lineup.
The legend of Lucille was born in a fiery explosion. A dramatic and befitting origin story for a guitar that was virtually inseparable from the pioneering blues icon that played her, B.B. King. It’s clear that Lucille was more than just an instrument to B.B.; she was his voice and his expression. To honor the passion and love he held for Lucille, the artisans at Custom Shop worked tirelessly to make B.B. proud.
Lucille features all of the high-end appointments that are fit for a King. Highlights include gold hardware, including a gold “B.B. King” engraved truss rod cover and a TP-6 tailpiece with fine tuners. A “Lucille” mother of pearl inlay adorns the headstock, and the ebony fretboard features split block mother of pearl inlays. A mono Varitone switch, along with four audio taper CTS® potentiometers and paper-in-oil Bumblebee capacitors, are paired to Gibson Custombucker humbucking pickups. The legendary semi-hollow body design remains, but the f-holes are gone, in keeping with B.B. King’s personal preferences. The top, back, and sides of the body feature stunning figured maple veneer, which is visible through the Transparent Ebony nitrocellulose lacquer finish, making Lucille a very special guitar that’s fit for blues royalty.
Little did B.B. know that risking his life to rescue Lucille from being destroyed in a fire at a small club in Twist, AR, would lead to inspiring and bringing voice to generations.

I personally met BB King back in the 90’s. He was a true gentleman and even gave me a guitar, unfortunately it was only an inch long with a pin on the back. I still have it somewhere.

Back in the day, I bought a BB Lab Series amp to check out the solid state tone. I paired it with my red 355 and bam, it sounded on. B.B. licks with B.B.tones. One night after finishing his show at Star Plaza, B.B. was doing his thing passing out the BB.King pins and I approached him at the edge of the stage and asked for his pick. "B...can I have your pick?" He just finished the last set. He reached out his hand and gave it to me. Highlight of my blues life, right there. I ran into B.B King a couple of other times off the stage when I was much younger. He just happened to be at social events where I was. I had the pleasure of meeting him off stage too. RIP BBKING Hats off to Fletch for a swingin' jam.

Lovely guitar! I’ve always wanted a 355-the closest I got was a ‘67 345 that I had in the early ‘70s. The BB King model is really cool, and I’m a big BB fan anyway-I’ve seen him play several times, and actually got to meet him once! A really nice guy. I’ve still got a pick he gave me. I don’t use it, but I’ve got it laying around somewhere!

My Dad has a 1977 ES355, he bought it the year I was born and it cost him £700 which was a considerable amount of money back then. He's gigged it pretty much every weekend since then and it's still on its original frets! Glad to see this come back. Just placed my order for mine. Love that they upgraded the pickups from the 490R/T to the Custombucker. The only disappointment for me is the top mount input jack. Wish they had kept the dual outputs and kept them on the bottom. Either way it's a collector piece for me.

Yep , on the new one : 3 layers of maple-poplar-maple for the body, 2 CustomBuckers in place of the 490T & 490R pickups, only one output jack on the table, the finish is also different. The price too : from 3199€ for the previous to $6,999 for this Legacy :/
