Love the b&o when I was a kid on staten island New York, 1955 to 1962 we would hop the box cars in mariners harbor, ride to port richmond to go to Faber pool and the empier theater on Saturday then catch the train going back to new Jersey this happened every Saturday in the summer, and my uncle worked on the swing Tressel between staten island & New Jersey.

Maintenance is Important 😊

Very important for sure, it caught up with them in the end!

Fairmont Setouts all over the place and Maintenance Guys everywhere were a good source of Union Jobs. The ability to keep Rail Traffic moving counted on them Guys. They started to vanish with the early mergers. After 1967 when they took the Mail off the Rails, the Brill Doodlebugs began to be real scarce. Now the Small Towns that were a nice place to live have died and become hangouts for Crackheads. Progress? probably not.....

Look how clean the rail cars are without all the filthy graffiti destroying everything.

At 20:35 is a rare loco N&W 2910 (NKP 910). The only GP-35 bought by NKP and along with a P&WV GP-35 the only low nose geeps on N&W until the Mid-80s
@charlessmileyvideos2 ай бұрын
Wow, thanks for pointing that out! It is really different!
@danielbackley93012 ай бұрын
My mistake and shame on me for it I forgot about the ex-Wabash gp-35s and the second Wabash order that came after the merger in N&W paint but with low noses as did a Wabash order for C-425s

I miss The Hagerstown & Fredrick Railway it's my Favorite Interurban of all time, wish i was around to see and film it along with the C&O's steam locomotives such as their Kanawha's and M1 Steam Turbine and even the Chessie System and their Diesel Roster

5:43 Charles, were those units black or dark blue? I've come across photos of C&O units that were black, but I have had people pile up on me when I brought it up. Am I crazy? Well, don't answer that last question.
@charlessmileyvideos3 ай бұрын
Sooty coating on dark blue comes to mind. The Kodak color movie film was usually very accurate in exposure compared to junky consumer video cameras.

C&O is not the core of CSX...it was an equal merger between Chessie and Seaboard, with the two most significant (financially powerful) CSX predecessor roads arguably being Atlantic Coast Line and C&O. Also, CSX doesn't own all of the NYC's mainline....they own the eastern part (roughly east of Cleveland). NS owns it west of roughly Cleveland.
