1982 through 1986, I long lined for fox, raccoon, mink, muskrat. It was a truck line, 80 miles a day, 500+ sets, kept me and the wife under a roof with heat, electric, clothes and food. It wasn't easy but I did enjoy it.

jut might be my favorite video youve made thus far. the victor trap is a classic, ive caught chipmunk, round squirrel, rock squirrel, dove, quai, always have at least four in my truck. other items im new to so id like to try them out, like the loofah.

Your approach is pragmatic. I agree that hunting is calorie inefficient but sometimes opportunity knocks at your door. Foraging while you check your traps/nets makes sense to me. The loofah tip is a new one for me...blew my mind and I'm going to explore their use. I've carried Therabands and sugical tubing in my pack for years...pretty handy tk have around. I was always taught that best thing you can carry into the woods is knowledge and experience. Thanks for sharing some of yours with us. PROPS Bob - all the way from Ontario, Canada. -MB

Really liking your videos. I love the yoyo reels. So useful. I had wondered about the quality of those cards. Thank you for showing how flimsy it actually is. I had a loofa come apart on me one time in the shower and was amazed at the potential usefulness. Untill then I had never even really considered how they were made. They are also handy for use as bags for gathering edibles.

The pen rods are pretty decent actually. The spinning combo works well for me. I've used mine fishing for bullhead, sunfish, trout, perch, and bass without any problem. I actually used mine for a catch and cook with a friend at a some what local quarry camp ground and it held up for hours. It stays in my vehicle bag with a backup spool of 6lbs flourocoat and some tackle.

Bob: thank you for another great video. I learn so much from you. The three takeaways from this video are 1) The loofah idea was fabulous. Functional, multi use and very light. 2) The Penrod idea is great. I've used a couple and I have to say the reel you have is a major POS. It is absolutely impossible to cast. The spinning reel is the best bet. Glad you warned the viewers that the reel is junk.
@jko9581

The third take away is the use of bungee material. Again light versatile and multi functional. Congrats on another great video and prayers for you and your family thank you so much for your contributions

I like a Crosman model 1377, it fits on the hip and you can load it up with 2 pellets and 3 BBS and you can take up to a groundhog or possum with it easily. Or you can load it single and you have a very accurate little pistol up to 40 yards. I used it when I camped in California for 10 months and was my go to for squirrels and quail. Usually just seeing things on my daily tasks, not actively hunting. Who would have thought of a luffa? Haha that's awesome..

Well done. I carry very similar. I use 3/16 bungee for the bug net ridgeline on my mosquito netting and as a trap trigger system on snares as well. I use rubber tubing from a tossed out exercising type contraption for the slingshot, trap engine, spearing and turnequet or broken bone setting around improvised braces. If I may suggest, for "survival" go ahead and get some cable snares and keep them in the gear. I keep 6-8 locking med game sized coiled up under my cooking cup. Another idea I use is 304 annealed stainless steel wire ( airplane safety locking wire) It is very pliable, tensle strength is nearly triple of brass wire and very reusable. plus it can be used for field expedient sutures. Wont give up all my tricks but am interested in your classes. Will sub. BoJericho
@BobHansler
@BobHansler 8 жыл бұрын
+A jarrell Definitely have me thinking. I do have some of the pro snares, but I am always fighting the moisture that eventually ends up corroding everything it can. I keep vet sutures in the first aid kit, good for so many things. I'll look into the stainless steel wire, should work nicely.

Your kit and mine are fairly similar. I haven't found a trap Ilike yet that it isn't homemade, I was considering those little narrow gopher traps they sell. Ready Man cards were a patent infringement on teh thicker and better thought out design of the Arrowcards (patented), which are much better built and in a bunch of models, including one with an atlatl-sized head - although I don't have an issue with the smaller head sizes to pin an animal, and then polishing it off with a tomahawk or club. Arrowcards are Made in the USA, by Primalware. Worth a look, if you don't improvise your own. HTH. - Mike

+gabriel As a trekker, Id forgo trekking poles as their use is rather limited. I am however a fan of a good appropriately long walking stick, which could definitely double as a spear. Walling sticks often feel like a hassle for the first day or so, but you get used to the weight and they come in handy more often than one might think.

+Justin Schramm Years and years of using all manner of gear. I've taken over 1000 people out on trail over the years, each bringing their own unique gear as well as the various products that I've tried here and there. There are things that seem like they would work... but fail utterly. The card is nothing like the one they show for the ad promotion, much thinner. If you are to use the hooks, you must remember to bring line with you as well... should just throw some actual quality hooks in your wallet if that is the case. The saws have enough metal on them to take down fleshy weeds... nothing more. The spear points look large when they are in my hand up close to the camera, but understand specs, the triple point is still the size of a half dollar and utterly useless. snare toggles require the appropriate line for use, have to make sure you have that, might as well pack some steel leaders instead. It seems like a viable option, that is why I bought it... but it really is trash. Give me a pair of scissors and a coke can and I'll carve the same thing out, It'll be the same thickness and durability and cost nothing at all.

Man have you done Texans proud on this video. Hell... Them 2 Blood Baptized Texans Crockett and Bowie are a turnin in Their Rest with Glee... That They'd Part and Parceled the likes of Their State's many famous Sons and Daughters... But One who Readies Those Citizens Beforehand on the Ability To Survive during such an Formidable Alamo Like Ememy as SHTF... Well Now, That There is Priceless, for The Future of The Republic of Our Great State. Crockett left us 2 Great Quotable Rhymes in His short time with We Thankful Texans... "I leave this rule for others when I'm dead Be always sure You're ight -- THEN GO AHEAD" "Let You're Tongue Speak what You're Heart Thinks" "if what truths iv'e here whittled in these modern days seem too serious to say then take time to ponder those many texan's pathfinder ways reckon you're gonna find em too myriad to display" -gilpin -2-12-16 4 am

+Slicky Brit Sorry senior, Though the oil companies here in Texas are caving... the local rigs across the land decided to recase and shuffle pump-jacks for a few weeks. Miles away, the generators and sounds of heavy cranes span the forests until nothing is at peace. Went ahead and ranted a backhoe for a few weeks to make the best of it.. Property is looking good, orchards and garden are getting there heading into spring, but not getting videos made has been weighing upon me, This coming week iIl be pushing them through each day. The plants are green the fish are biting, and if the weather doesn't float me away I aught to have some good stuff coming up soon.
