This is a review of the B.o.B. (Beast of Burden) Yak bicycle trailer, which is GREAT for hauling cargo on your bike - especially in emergencies.

Looks like a nice trailer. You had me laughing when you were hauling the fire wood by hand.. But also made very good point. I went camping last year and I had to hike in with all of my camping gear. It was only a mile, a very steep mile and I was wore out. Lesson learned. I have been working on losing weight and getting in better shape. Great video as always.

Serious thoughts and serious business. But I couldn't help but crack up laughing as you demonstrated to show us how difficult it would be without gas for your vehicle to do these things. This video is a reality check for all of us. Especially now in 2022 as I watch this. You are both terrific and I appreciate your videos and sharing your wisdom with us. Doing my best to get prepared. I'm not there yet, but doing better and better every day, thanks to you both. You were wise of what was to come before any of us had a clue. This is an excellent review. I searched online and unfortunately, these trailers are no longer available. I cannot get enough of your videos and anxious to learn more about your clever ideas. You are so wise!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!! God bless you both, and especially praying for Elizabeth's healing!!!!!!!

Hi Bill, I agree with you on the Bob. Great product and we'll worth buying. I will say that I am older than you, and went car less for most of my life. The Bob was my go to for anything under 25 miles. Anyone serious about prepping should have a bicycle, and a way of carrying cargo. During hurricane Fran we were able to ride the 13 miles to work in downtown Raleigh where we had electricity due to being on the emergency grid. Power was out for 11 days at the house. Roads were closed due to downed trees and debris. Couldn't go down the block with a car.

I have a silver BoB yak. The silver ones are faster. I paid about $80 for it on Fleabay. It is like new came with the BoB yak yellow bag again like new and a heap of tools and a fantastic huge padded bag in which to store it. I think a rich kid did a single tour with it, then left it at his accommodation as the cost to fly it home with him was too great and it ended up on Fleabay and I won it! I couldn't get my wallet open fast enough when I went to collect it. Very pleased with it. Such a good trailer. Liked and subscribed.

Great video! I am 59, and I have another brand of trailer which works also as a dolly, they are amazing. Now when I have to go to the supermarket, I can say, "it's 2PM let me wait until 4:30 there's not enough traffic." I love to wait for rush hour and then ride by all the cars sitting in traffic! I can relate to back problems; however, I don't get back pain from cycling, I get it from lifting heavy stuff (the wrong way) and/or playing tennis or basketball too hard. Thanks!

Fun video; I love your sense of humor. I was surprised to learn Lowe's actually does have food grade five gallon pails. Then started wondering; if you're using a Berkey, would it matter if your container was food safe or not? I almost bought a Berkey, but went with a Sawyer Squeeze All in One and a SteriPen. this shape is the best, I bought similar on ebay for £70 about 8 years ago and tested with 20-30 kg it was fine to both road and mountain bike, several years ago I little changed construction vertical pivot drilled through the top of bend frame, and installed 18 inch wheel on extended bend tubes, cargo bed drop about 60mm that makes more easier to manoeuvre even with more heavier grocery shopping, because gravity center drops below horizontal axel line, later adopted rim brakes to wheel which alouds much safer cycling in city and down hills when you heavy loaded, the biggest challenge was to install additional detachable brake handle on drop handlebars, but that was worth it

Interesting vid to watch from NL: 1. We have 3x bicycles than cars over here. 2. Why would you need a hanger for groceries? A week worth of groceries fits nicely in a small backpack, right? (also considering the name of the channel). 3. If you go for the gasoline instead of a hanger, you'd be able to use your car for, say 10 years to haul wood+water? Is that not enough for thing to go back to normal / how you plan to survive that long?
@LiveSimpleLiveFree
@LiveSimpleLiveFree 4 жыл бұрын
A hanger for groceries? I'm sorry, I have no idea what that is. Oh, do you mean trailer? No we couldn't possibly fit a week's worth of groceries in a back pack. And especially water. This trailer will haul a lot of water and firewood. And the point of this bike/trailer system is that we can use it when there is no gasoline available for the car.

@LiveSimpleLiveFree
@LiveSimpleLiveFree 6 жыл бұрын
With trying to use the kickstand, stability can be a bit of a problem when the trailer is heavily loaded. But turning the bike to the left (sorting of jack-knifing the trailer to the left) can help with that a lot.

AND don't ask B&E to share that b.o.b. when the EOW hits, cause I have not heard them say that they are planning to do that. smh AND someone will take that b.o.b. from them in a heartbeat if someone needs/wants it. Would B&E kill to keep it? And are they already making $$ on the sale of the b.o.b.? Scare tactics seem to abound, and the love of $$ drives many. Can't love God and mammon. Can't serve two masters. Where did the apostle Paul say in any letter to the church that the redeemed are to store food?

Penny Saver - Sure, someone could come in and steal everything we have. That's always a possibility, even now. That doesn't mean we shouldn't prepare for the bad times that we know are coming. We get comments like yours all the time - "Where does God say...?" So we did a video about that called "Should Christians be Preppers?" I hope you will take the time to watch it and see our stance on this issue. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqiwZmOBq9-Ya6c And no, we haven't made any money on the sale of the BoB. And so what if we did? This is how we make part of our living. How is that "Love of $$?" Do YOU make a living? Do YOU have ANY money. How do you make yours? This is how we make part of ours. Why are you using scripture to condemn us for simply trying to make a living? Scripture also says that if a man doesn't work, he doesn't eat. And A man who doesn't provide for his family is worse than an infidel. Making some money from You Tube in various different ways is part of God's provision for us, and we thank Him everyday for providing for us.
@pennysaver7654
@pennysaver7654 7 жыл бұрын
no...my point is that it appears to me that you all play on the fear aspect, and make $$ off of people when you play that card. By saying that there may come a time when we don't have food to eat, so you better buy THRIVE food, is to play on emotions. I have asked for ONE verse from the letters of Paul to the church that tells them to store up food, and no, I will not listen to a whole message. No time for that. I have time for ONE verse if you have one. I don't care if you make $$ off of peddling (pun intended) the b.o.b. but again, the motive for selling, or working the fear aspect is not godly if that is the route (again, pun intended, if you can find one in that) that you take with it, and it appears it is. "Buy this or you will die, or have trouble hauling food, etc." is wrong. Everyone will die. God has your days numbered, or he doesn't. He provides for his own, or he doesn't, and though he slay me, yet will I praise him. Take no thought about tomorrow, concerning what you will eat. Jesus says that. Live by that, and you are true believers in him. Otherwise, lip-service. Having money is not evil. Not sharing is evil. Storing up treasures where moths corrupt, and rust decays is evil. Disobedience is evil. Evil is wicked. The wrath of God is on the wicked (Romans 1:18). If you sin, then you are wicked. Sin is bad fruit. The good tree only bears good fruit- Matt. 7:17. Do you consider yourself a good tree, or a bad one according to that passage? Just curious, is there anyone for whom you would NOT die? And another side note if you have time--- please tell me when it is that you think that the redeemed are made perfect, and get to see God? Here on earth, or at heaven's gate? TY!

Tinyhouse Prepper I have food, and garden seeds, and a water filter (we live between 2 lakes and a creek), and some essential oils but would have big difficulty with heat and restroom facilities. Those 2 are tough in northern WI in town. I did call my local utilities to ask if they had pumps for the city sanitary and wells that would run without electticity. They had no answer and told me they buy their services from other companies. People are sorely not prepared. I do genealogy. Those folks that were not prepared in the wars and depression died at the county poor house locked up with insane folks, criminals, and other people that would be difficult to share a bed with! Thanks for your pointers Bill. I can tell by some of the awful comments under mine that some people just don't see the benefits of being prepared for anything. It"s like they figure either they will be on easy street or Jesus will immediately rescue them. If that were true, why did so many suffer after all the wars we have had, and during the depression? And why did God instruct Moses to prepare for a 7 year famine in Egypt? IMO I have never felt Bill was pushing Thrive at anyone by instilling fear in them. Thrive is a good buy. No waste. If you don't believe that, next time you get food, weigh the before and after of just how much is waste. Also weigh it when it spoils and you toss it in the garbage. Then if yur wife works fill time, miltiply how much time she spends cooking your meals and cleaning up by her hourly wage. Think about how many other things she has to do when she gets home. If you are laying on the sofa watching her shame on you!

That little plastic guard isn't that for parking the trailer and bike together? I have the Topeak Journey and Journey TX - it weighs a tiny bit less than the BOB. I think the Topeak is more versatile since it fits 26-29" bikes and bikes with 12 mm through axle (Journey TX) as well as bikes with skewers (Journey) you only swap the front axle of the trailer. The bag of the Topeak is a bit smaller than the BOB's bag (1620 ci) which is quite a lot. The BOB has those attachment points for bottles and a suspension choice where the topeak does not. The BOB is also made of steel which is easier to fix should it ever brake. The BOB should develop a wider axle and assets for 12 mm through axles. Then I would buy the BOB instead. It is a bit funny that the suspension is on a trailer that won't fit a off road touring bike and that the trailer that fits the off road touring bike does not have a suspension ... Good review! I hit thumbs up and subscribed! I would love to ride the Great Divide one day but not alone. It would be awesome to do it in a larger group.

Cool bike and b.o.b. You will be fine as long as there is no drought. You might want to harvest some rain water as well. I think I'd like something to hitch up to a moped or something as I'm not athletic enough to do a bike I don't think. Horse and carriage? Another thought...hmmm.

This particular stream has never been dry in the ten years we have lived in the area. Rain water would only be good in the summer. In the winter, the rain barrels would freeze solid! The problem with a moped is that you need gas. And if you had gas, you might as well drive your car!
@angelaangell8523

well you know when the time comes there will be earth changes, earthquakes, waterways will change and drought, famine and disease because of all these things. True about gas, but mopeds use less of it. I just physically can't ride a bike and pump it up hills, etc. Maybe a pony cart? LOL

I guess you would need a sled for the winter. Bike sure would not make it through the deep snow you get where you live. Love the b.o.b.
@LiveSimpleLiveFree
@LiveSimpleLiveFree 7 жыл бұрын
Or just walking the bike through the snow pulling the trailer would still be better than hand carrying the water. That's only a couple months of hardship, though - and you just do what you can to survive. Nine or ten months out of the year I don't think it would be a problem.

Um, if there's deep snow, I don't see the need to go to the river. Melt snow, it's going through a Berkey anyway.

Yes, I can see that there are many good qualities of your beast of burden. However, when carrying a heavy load, I would anticipate that there would be an issue with the side-to-side lack of stability, especially when compared to a sturdy 2 wheel trailer which would be rock solid with no side-to-side swaying tendency whatsoever. By engineering design. Beast/Burden would excel at the lighter loads. (Safety factor being my first concern, I want 2 wheels, no matter the pretty welds.)
@LiveSimpleLiveFree
@LiveSimpleLiveFree 4 жыл бұрын
This trailer is rock solid, even with heavier loads. It’s designed for long distance bicycle touring on rough single track trails, carrying a full compliment of camping gear. If it wasn’t solid, it would NOT work on rough single track.
@dehoedisc7247
@dehoedisc7247 4 жыл бұрын
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree I didn't question your devotion to your trailer or the usefulness of it for your needs. Engineering principles do not disappear just because you wish to ignore them. That tiny little wheel and the tendency to go side to side while moving have no chance to compete in carrying heavier loads against a sturdy 2 wheel rig. Period.

@@LiveSimpleLiveFree My big regret is selling mine because I needed a trailer for a child. I used my bob loaded down, heavy, down steep hills and I did fear the sway, because even the bob guys said beware of high speeds down hills fully loaded as one would with any trailer... But had none. I feared braking, but it was unfounded. And let me add that My camping travel buddy at that time, took his ,loaded with gear, bob through some really rocky single track for an experiment, and down hills, AND, did jumps with the thing, and it was solid, with no damage to any gear. I happened upon your ol vid because I'm wondering about converting my child trailer, a chariot, or selling it. I wanted to see what's out there. I have seen some impressive stuff from europe, but one other thing I loved about my bob, was the lack of plastic. Also at camp turn the trailer over and you have a table.
