That really is a beauty and a great addition to any working collection. Perfect for a bedroom, balcony or study and still such a lovely design. B&O really was years ahead of it’s time and bizarrely that was years if not decades ago...

cheers steve, yeah £950 when first came out,i think the table top plynth was £50 so basically a grand (cant remember wall bracket price) the data we got at the time (in its first year) was that it was massively successful at being shop customers first B&O because 80ish percent were sold with a beolink 1000 (they were £100 at the time if memory serves me right) the Mk2 had slightly cheaper driver units tho back to back you couldnt sonically really hear a difference, again so long ago my memory gets hazy but i seem to remember that was because it gained ,as well as what you described, masterlink capability, so it kept the same pricepoint, mines was in the kitchen till last year, need to get new grills sometime to get rid of 25 yrs of kitchen smells lol, my bronze/copper edge is in the kitchen now (booo hisss yeah yeah yeah but i like it and was my first new purchase in about 10 yrs) lol

@@gimble8638 Yes, what a great system - I think it was the Beosound2/Edge of the 1990s - a proper "entry level" B&O system to get more people into B&O style and sound. Great that they are still in use over 25 years later!

Great video as always,thanks. Must admit I had forgotten about the Century, I think it's the B&O system that has fallen under the radar lately. For anyone looking for a compact kitchen/study system (eg. me) it's a bargain.

Steve at Sounds Heavenly I got a shipping notification very quickly, thank you :-). I agree it is nice to be able to change the speaker colour, mine is a teal colour (not sure of the official name) and the fabric is in very good condition so will keep as is for now. It is looking and sounding fabulous on the wall in my home office!

She gave me her immaculate basically unused beosystem 3300 with RL45’s which I use at my office now. I’m hoping I’ll get the century one day ;)

Thank you for the great videos I just got one of these and purchased a Beo1000 remote but can't get the remote to work on it? Is there a setup process I need to do to get them to communicate?
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you like my videos! There is no setup needed for the remote, so this sounds like a fault with either the Century or the remote. I suggest asking your local B&O dealer if they can recommend a repairer in your area who can take a look at them for you.

Hi Steve! Not sure if you’ll see this but I have a question. Just got my hands on this lovely system and although I will primarily use it for cds and cassettes, can you connect a chromecast to the century for Bluetooth? Thanks.
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Yes, I can help! This cable will allow you to connect a Chromecast Audio (not Chromecast HDMI) to the Aux socket on the back of your B&O system:- soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/67-298-minijack-to-aux-in-ipod-to-beosound-beomaster-beocenter-using-aux-din-socket.html#/2-length-1m Please set the phone volume to maximum when connecting to the B&O system - this is normal when using a portable music player with a home audio system due to the low output levels produced by the phone. To listen to the music, simply press "A.Aux" on the B&O keypad, or select this on the B&O remote control by pressing the "LIST" button until the display shows "A.AUX", then pressing "GO".

Does input only for the aux mean that it's impossible to record to tape from the aux
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly 2 жыл бұрын
Beosound Century can record any source to the internal tape recorder (including the Aux input). However, you cannot record to an external tape recorder, as the Aux socket is for input only.
@eachfallenrobin
@eachfallenrobin 2 жыл бұрын
@@soundsheavenly ah I get you now. As long as I can record onto tape from the aux I'm happy, thank you for clarifying meaning. didn't you say there is cabling for external speakers, couldn't you take that as a line level for external tape? not that I want to do that, but as a workaround for the other scenario
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly 2 жыл бұрын
Later models have a headphone socket on the back which could be used for recording or for external speakers, please feel free to get in touch at soundsheavenly.com if you need any help with cables for this.

Are those the beovox 3000, mounted to your wall?
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly 3 жыл бұрын
Almost....they are the active Beolab 3000 version - although it doesn't show clearly in this video, they have the extra panel fitted underneath with the display and power amplifier that isn't fitted to the unpowered Beovox 3000 speakers.

Ahhh... Well a friend of my dad’s is giving us a beosound ouverture, and he says he will give us a similar looking speaker. Did your Beolabs come as pat of a system or did you get them separately. Also did the beovox come as a part of a system or separately. The one he is giving us also has the panel and form his photo is mounted on his wall. Just wondering. Thanks for the info
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly 3 жыл бұрын
Please email me some photos of the speakers via the contact page at soundsheavenly.com when you get them and I can confirm which ones you have and help you to get them working. B&O speakers were sold separately from the systems, so you could mix and match any music system with any speakers

B&O the FINEST! manufacturers of true Hi-Fi in the business bar none, don't care about anything else and even the "budget system" from these masters of the class wipes the floor with many out there and there is no system on planet earth that can match B&O for classical music either, it would be worth buying one of these babies just to listen to classical music alone

Hi there, I wonder if you can point me in the right direction here? I bought a bang olufsen system off of different people on ebay and I am having some problems setting it up and getting it to work. The separate units I have are as follows. Master control panel 5000 , Record deck Beogram 5000 and AMP Beomaster 5500. I put new batteries in the Master control 5000 it lights up. I press Phono and I get( no transmit ion) comes up on the panel . I have light on the deck working record spins arm goes over. but no sound? The Amp is on radio and I cant change this as there is no transmit ion from Master control to AMP and that is with me in contact with the AMP. Is this system compatible? I here the radio channel on my head phones, so AMP works. Deck spins and arm makes contact with record. Stylus mmc4. So help!
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your enquiry. From memory, I think the MCP5000 control panel only works with the Beomaster 5000, you need the MCL5500 for your Beomaster 5500. However, you can use Beolink 1000 or Beo4 remotes instead if that makes things easier. Once you have got the right remote (sorry I don't sell these), you should be able to get everything working. If you need any cables for your system, please ask and I will be happy to help!

@@soundsheavenly Hi Steve thank you so much! So my Record Deck Beogram 5000 should work with Beomaster 5500 it is just the MCP 5000 that is the problem! swop that and things should be find.

@@paulstonepaul879 Yes, (assuming that there are no faults on the items) then everything should work together, you just need the correct remote.

@@soundsheavenly Once again Steve now that you have put me on the right track I will try some of your options on ebay and see what I can get. Even look at selling Beomaster 5500 and buying Beomaster 5000. At less with the 5000 there looks to be a manual option as it has a drop down control panel.

Sorry to bother you I have now Bought a Bang Olufsen 5000 Beomaster to work with my 5000 record deck. The MCL 5000 works with the 5000 Beomaster all lights up and the radio tuner on the 5000 plays. I don't have speakers at the moment so I use my headphones and I have checked them on other devices to confirm this and also worked with the tuner. But when I play a record nothing just a hiss as the record goes round. I bought a mmc4 stylus off of ebay could this be the problem? and is there a way I could check before getting back to the stylus seller?

Beosystem 2500 vs Beosound Century?
@soundsheavenly
@soundsheavenly 4 жыл бұрын
For functionality and connections, 2500 wins hands down (Aux output, Datalink compatibility, Powerlink outputs for external speakers), however as a single-room system I prefer the Century's looks and style - what do you think?
@turblown
@turblown 4 жыл бұрын
@@soundsheavenly Hmmm well I was most curious about the sound. I've owned a Beosystem 2500 so I know how that sounds. I've never heard a Century before. Getting the itch to buy a vintage "table top" and the 2500 and now century are top of my list.
Is this the ultimate "Future-proof" Bang and Olufsen music system for 2022? [4K]
