Bang & Olufsen have brought out a pair of luxe wireless headphones that costs three times what premium phones do. Do they sound three times as good or feel three times as comfortable? I received a pair of B&O Beoplay H9 headphones for testing and review for a few days to find out.
What makes Beoplay H9 ultra-premium?
When you get a premium product you expect it to look and feel special. The Beoplay H9 headphones arrived in a heavy box with plenty of lush padding inside. Right out of the box the luxe feel of the B&O Beoplay H9 is noticeable. The covering material feels super soft and supple, and it should since the ear cups are wrapped with ultra-soft lambskin. The test headphones I received are a camel-coloured leather that looks nicer than basic black (though black is also available) and the metal parts are a sleek brushed aluminum. The ear cups are plush and nicely squishy, thanks to memory foam cushioning. Leather wraps the outer head band too (while canvas lines the inside) and B&O says the skin will patina over time, as a fine leather bag would.
These headphones are fully wireless, and run off a Bluetooth connection that's strong and seamless, though there is a wired option if your battery dies and you're not able to recharge them.

Does anyone know how to activate Siri on the B&O H9 headphones without holding onto the iPhone’s home button? I have a pair of these great headphones, but it’s functionality on the aluminum surface of the right ear cup doesn’t seem to activate Siri, even when I hold down the pause/play button. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? Could someone please elaborate?

Just bought a pair of these, lightly used for 78 USD (500 Danish Kroner) they are almost as nice sounding as My DALI IO-4 but the B&O's filters a bit of the high notes.. also had some difficulty pairing to android (SGS10e) but when it worked it seems like it keeps working.. mind you, this is the first ver. H9 the ones selling now is the third ver.

I have the b&o h6 headphones but after hearing the h9 headphones sound quality I bought them. They sound even better than the h6 and that is saying much.

I've been trying to figure out which headphones to buy. I bougth B&W P7 yesturday, as their sound was just excellent, but I'm about to return them as I missed the noice cancellation. That leaves a few brands left, but your comment about the rather bad NC on the H9 strikes them from the list. (So yeah, your review did help me.) :) Guess it's down to Bose QC35 or Sony MDR-1000X now (or possibly Sennheiser PXC-550).

Which headphones with active noise cancelling filter out cancelling and clapping? My Bose QC35 certainly don't do that. They only very repetitive noise, like engine noise, some fan noise, jet noise. Their removal of these sorts of ambient noises actually makes me hear things like voices and knocking even better. That's kind of cool. Nonetheless, I wish they had that sort of magic "dead silence" ANC mode -- at least an option. The only thing I've tried with the type of of isolation you're talking about are ones that it physically. The Etymotic in-ear earbuds. Are you referring to the latest Sony headphones by any chance? Haven't had a chance to try them yet.

Erin Lawrence there great headphones, but just sold them to fund for a new set of H9's, bit worried about the low volume level on Bluetooth though, what do you think of the volume level? If there to low, I will get the H7's again, or the bowers and Wilkins px 😉

Thank you for your great review. Actually I already bought H4 two weeks ago, and I am satisfied using it. But, I still wonder how different from H9 in terms of sound quality. Which sound quality is better?(bass, mid range, high range....) furthermore, Is it worth chaning it to H9? Active Noise Cancellation is really matter? (I usually listen to music during commuting work by bus about 3 hours everyday. Thanks ^^

Yep! Before I review my H4, I should tell you I've never own of beoplay headsets. h4 is the first premium sound product for me. But I love this sound especially bass.According to many other b&o users, the brand has lack of bass, but when I heard them first time, I am quite surprised because it has quite enogh bass. furthermore, I was feeling deep and punch bass during hip hop and rock music. My own assessment is that b&o really starts to overcome its lack of bass issue with this H4.Yet, if you heard classic or new age songs, you might feel sophiscated mid and high sounds as the previous b&o models. Yes, they surely are the great model and even cheapest one in beoplay series. However, you cannot block out a lot of background noise with H4. Though they were built as overear headset, H4 has inperfect to enjoy music in outside without ANC. That's why I am intrested in highend model H9.

Erin Lawrence Thank you, can you help me? I'm in a difficult situation. I own a Bose QC15, but want to upgrade that; B&O is an incredible brand, but I don't live in USA, therefore I can't try them. Some people say that the H6 has a better sound, some people say that the H9 has the best sound, and I don't know if it is worth to spend 500 on those headphones, or buy the QC35 that people say it has better ANC. Since I don't know what to choose, I would like you to give me an advise, if the H9 is worth its cost, or I should look other brand or the H6 or the H4? Sorry to write such a long message, but I need to know please

While I did like these, I have 2 other picks I loved just as much and they're significantly cheaper: The Sony XB950BT and the Parrot Zik3 . Check those out. Headphones can go anywhere up to 50,000 pounds in the UK. I know these are B&O's flagship models, however I guess everything is subjective! Great review though!

Ewan Goss you talked yourself into them at the end there Ewan ha, if you think they are pricey, go for the H8's or a refurbed 2nd hand pair off eBay, I've got the H8's and love them to bits, slightly biased as I adore bose equipment 👌😉

So sad about this... I have an h9 pair that I purchased in 2017 and the Bluetooth connection completed stopped working. It was working for almost a year with my iPhone 11 and my MacBook Pro from 2016 with no issue. A few weeks ago the Bluetooth function just stopped working, will no longer connect an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S10 or MacBook Pro 2013, 2016 or 2019. B&O won’t honour the warranty and does not offer repairs. So if you feel like lighting your money on fire, go ahead and buy these headphones, cause that’s what you will be doing.

Mine have the same problem. It's a mechanical failure, and seems to be pretty common. There are two small plastic things inside that are glued together, and they are prone to break. You can unscrew the earcup, remove four small screws, and then operate the switch from inside with a toothpick, and then you can pair the headphones to a device. After that it works for me to listen, as long as I don't need to re-pair.
