For those of you that are wondering why you see multiple roles being played by the same actor/ actress in each episode, there is an artistic choice (and a financial one) behind it. The series tries to mimic the way old theater groups used to operate in East Asia. Each group has a lead actress and lead actor who play at least one role in every play the group produce. Sometimes they even add a little bit of spices and make an actor cross-dress and play role opposite of their gender. The audience often only came to see the leading artists in a troupe. Justice Bao started out as short plays and opera performed by these theater troupes, and as such the female lead characters were often played by one single actress from one story to the next. The funny thing is these lead artists often play supporting roles because it allows them to appear under different lights, as well we keeping the audience coming back for more. The theater troupes didnt perform one single story from beginning to finish, but rather breaking up the acts over their stay at one village, and every night they perform multiple plays, with only one act from each. As such it is a good financial decision to have their best actors play supporting roles. This TV series clearly recruited a few famous actors and decided to have them play multiple roles across the season, Chinese audience wouldnt find it annoying because to them it is very common to see an actor in multiple roles, and they mostly turn on the TV to see the actor.

This is such a sad story on so many levels, few people cared about animals and their lives, yet this general did. The Cat falls in love with a girl who in grief choses her pain over love, and wounds them both. In order to keep a secret, men died who should not have. If the General had come clean about what happened, allowed the two offenders to face just punishment, things would have turned out differently, One man's decision affected so many . Perhaps the Cat would have found his love, but personally, I think he was better off without her, shallow love only brings more tears. Judge Bao retained his sidekick , one would hope that someday, the Cat would find real love. Great acting by all.

The storyline really tells the audiences how corruption and nepotism would cripples the military organization as a whole which in time would degrade the fighting effectiveness and capabilities。No wonder the death penalty would be imposed to any officers and commanders that are proven guilty of embezzling the fund meant for soldier's salary。Soldier's salary is soldier's right。

Historical record said he is black. It is believe he is decent of Middle Eastern migrants. There was a lot of record in China history about been people whose appearance resemble those from Europe, Middle East, India and North Africa. Race is a modern concept that emerged in 16th century Europe, thus, before that, when describing people of different skin colour, historians become more precise, about what they look like. Han dynasty General 張飛 is also recorded to have a black face, although he is mostly portray by an Asian actor, another General of the same era is recorded to have blond hair and blue eyes, TV sometime pick a white actor to play him, other time got an Asian actor. A martial art movie set in the 5th century, base on a real story, it was recorded one of the lead detective in the case had pale skin and blond hair, but they just got an Asian actor to wear pale skin makeup and wear a blond wig, despite it is obvious, from the record, this guy is European and Hong Kong got a truck load of white actors. (Although most martial arts film set after then 16th century, because by that time the idea of race already emerged, so when they see a white actor, historian just say it is a white guy or black guy and martial art film generally just get a white, middle eastern or black actor, to play the role, but if it is set before this era, sometime they just got Asian actors wearing black face makeup, white face makeup etc)
