The thing is that card levels by themselves add nothing to the game, whereas new town halls in clash of clans change the game fundamentally via new troops and defenses

The fun in Clash of Clans is upgrading your town and unlocking new buildings. New Town Hall levels allow you to make your base better and better, and there's no real rush, so you can take your time without spending irl money. Clash Royale card levels add nothing, they just force players to do more tedious, brainless grinding to stay competitive, which basically forces top players to spend money in order to stay near the top. And at the end of it, every interaction is the same anyway

​@@generalsour Also the core gameplay in clash of clans is attacking, and maxing an army is much easier than maxing a deck. Hero levels are the only part that takes a lot of time to upgrade, but the thing with heroes is key interactions don't change when they are a bit underleveled

Exactly and that’s why they released champions at the same time as level 14. If they just release level 15 players will get pissed and daily player count will probably fall despite the additional money they make from people buying card levels. They figured out all they have to do is couple new card levels with new features just like Clash of Clans does and KZbinrs and players will hyper fixate on the new features and not the card levels. End result is MORE daily players plus all the additional revenue from higher card levels. It’s pretty smart on their end, sucks for the average player

Same, it took me so long to get a maxed deck and now i can finally start to improve other cards (I'd love to experiment variations of my deck but putting lvl 11 or 12 cards at 6400 trophies is suicide) I don't want to struggle again to improve everything to lvl 15 and i surely don't want to spend 50€ in pass to improve 8 cards

I played a solid amount last year, constantly 3k+ points on war days, pushing further every ladder season, completing season pass with plenty of time to spare. At one point just felt like saving over 1.2m coins just for the hell of it, I had a maxed main deck so why not. When I grew bored again and deleted a while ago, I had close to four maxed decks. I've played on and off for over 6 years too. No way is level 15 going to be feasible for a f2p player to max before they hit us with level 16. Endless grinding loop really.

You have one deck maxed out and then Supercell goes "no, you can't have max cards, here's a new card level". You play against overleveled Megaknight a thousand times, you finally max out everything so you don't lose to clowns anymore and then Supercell just gives you the finger AGAIN.

its not even supercell, its just clash royale devs. Brawl stars had issues with a certain progression mechanic in the game, everyone complained about it, and so they fixed it. Brawl stars players complain about a glitch that only benefitted certain players, and they get compensation for it. Clash royale is the biggest shitshow in supercell right now and its not even close.

Clash of Clans is still doing fine, especially considering its age. And ever since they removed the training costs for your army, the game is even friendlier towards casuals and F2Ps. They are very generous with the monetisation too. The season pass, while it offers good value, isn't really necessary, as there's plenty of other options to farm for resources.

Especially since level differences aren’t that important, you could use zap drags that are 1 level under and still get a 3 star. With cr’s levels, they are vastly more important (barb barrel doesn’t kill guard shields, larries can’t one shot enemy Larry that’s 1 level higher, mega minion can’t 2 shot a flying machine, witch and mother witch and recruits don’t one shot spear gobs, rocket can’t one shot sparky, etc etc).

Main reason I left again was because of Level 14. I had like two decks close to maxed and then overleveled cards came back so the game didn't become too skill-based.

A small I idea dark elixir could be for cards that don't use regular elixer but only dark elixer maybe u don't want players to rocket cycle u can put it behind dark elixir bar and make it about x2 slower than regular elixir or slower or idk just an idea and something that clash royale needs gameplay wise something to spice it up adding dark elixer as a resource gameplay wise is interesting

This wouldn't really be a problem if it weren't for the fact that if you want to win a game in mid to top ladder, you NEED the highest level cards possible, otherwise you're at an extreme disadvantage. 1 level makes a huge difference and can be the deciding factor for a game

The reason I quit Clash Royale long ago is because the ranked matches are not balanced by level. If you have a higher level troop, you can be overpowered. As long as that stands, I will never come back, and I never did. But I know that can never change because that's how the money rolls in.

He's right, new card levels literally don't add anything to the game at all. The interactions between cards are going to be more or less the same between 15-14 as they are 14-13. All it does is screw over players who don't want to pay cash.

imo only watching this game is fun but playing it sucks since you literally can't do anything unless you either play for a few years or spend money, like not even skill is involved, you don't even get back your gems for grand challenges if you beat it perfectly to reward your skill you just either grind for years to get maxed or pretty much have zero chances at getting to top ladder, getting new arenas only increases the gains from chests by like 5-10%, meanwhile card level costs basically double every time... then the next level is probably going to be so expensive that you're gonna have to play for at least a year of daily grind to even get to a somewhat good level, and at this rate they'll prob release 2 more levels

devils advocate here: i don't think everyone here understands how hard it is to keep a game as old as CR running this long. The fact that the game was released for FREE immediately puts them in an awkward spot because they see no returns and have to dig their investment into the game even deeper to put out constant updates. They managed to make the first couple years but now they NEED to rely on player purchases to survive. Of course they could like cancel the CRL but that would ruin their publicity. It's the only way they can keep the servers alive so you can't really get mad at them.

yeah, but the problem is that they actually did this update as a form of cash grab, just notice how the game became more and more harder to F2P players and now this update literally made the game almost imposible to F2P players, some moves as doing leagues somehow more casual, putting a cap on 2V2 and season shop just made a lot of players leave the game, Supercell got a lot of backlash and they just ignored it and posted a video, this is not an effort from the devs to keep the game alive, this is just pure greed
