Great channel you have. Got the B’s processor in the summer. Was worried about the Patersons tanks leaking so your tip is handy.

Enjoyed watching and brought back good memories, my dad taught me how to develop negatives and prints, I learned on my dads Berkie and James 4x5 camera. Then for my birthday and Christmas present, he bought me 35mm Fujica ST 801. I had all kinds of tanks but I had a few Patterson ones too. In high school, I started working on the newspaper and yearbook which was lots of fun. I sold cameras for a long time for a local department store. My favorite camera was a Canon A-1. I loved selling cameras I got to purchase the equipment at cost.

excited to hear about your experience with the B's 4x5 reels. I've heard mixed things.
@DavesFilmLab
@DavesFilmLab Жыл бұрын
A lot of the mixed reviews come down to technique with the reel and possibly impatience. Worked very close with Bounet on developing the reels so I’ve definitely put in the work to learn how to properly use it. Like all things, tests are needed before running important / expensive sheet films. Hopefully will have that video out in a few weeks

For black and white it's great. For color it's very important to keep the temp consistent. Which you cannot do with this

Thanks for all the info. Currently my Jobo's CPE2 engine is limping and I could not find a replacement so far for it , actually I am thinking of this processor as a substitute. I have seen you fully load the tanks and I think this can be heavy duty work for a motor when it is used frequently. Could you tell me how the engine stands the test of time? Is there any chance of getting parts in case something gets broken?

The rotation mode with the Paterson Tanks has give me problems. The reels and the column stop and the result is a film not developed. So your penguins are a good idea.

Ah man, the image on the test film 5:23 is so perfectly lit and exposed. A whole roll with the same exposure? The only opportunity I can think of these days when a motor drive for your film camera would make sense;)
@DavesFilmLab

It’s all done under controlled lighting with strobes. Canon is technically driven by a motor, but I just fire off an entire roll of the same exposure over the course of a minute or two

@@DavesFilmLab I just rewatched one of your other e6 videos and got a glimpse of the shoot. Thanks for the info. The picture has that magical more real than reality that I like.

Surprised you've had good experience with the 4x5 reels, I sold mine because it was just a headache to unload/get clean negatives out of. This rotary processor seems really cool tho!

Tskes a bit to get used to but it’s by far my favorite and preferred it over my jobo expert drum. Review will be out in a few weeks and it’ll showcase best practices. The MKII version is killer

Thank you for this video. Do you also heat your BW developer to a higher temperature than usual to adjust for temperature drift during development? Like starting at 69 degrees instead of 68?
@DavesFilmLab
@DavesFilmLab Жыл бұрын
No, I find this to be unnecessary. With 68° water, it doesn’t drift as much typically UNLESS the room temp is dramatically colder. But even in a 75° room, the E6 or C41 temps tend to drop more since they are quite a bit above room temp. That said, with all things… there can be variables that need to be accounted for. If the room temp is 35°, you may need to accommodate for the drastic room temperature difference. So it can be a simple answer, but it becomes more complex when we deal with colder room temperatures.

Can you show an example of a developing session? If Massive Dev says process for six mins do you leave the tank on the processor rolling back and forth for that 6mins?
@DavesFilmLab
@DavesFilmLab Жыл бұрын
This is a personal preference thing. Checking with a densitometer, I found it negligible to change processing times… so I generally recommend that they stay the same. Great question!

For black and white films, I was wondering if you've experienced which one produces better results, B's 4x5 reel/B's Processor and B's 4x5 reel/manual agitation. Thanks.
@DavesFilmLab
@DavesFilmLab Жыл бұрын
For the best 4x5, I’ve stuck with manual agitations. I’m sure that a workflow can be found that works for rotary. If doing rotary process, it’s best practice to manually invert every few minutes to keep the flow somewhat randomized

Can this be used with Jobo style tanks to make colour RA-4 prints?
