I think this proves it’s the musician more than anything. The player here is in excellent control of both instruments. Very well played!

I love both sounds you get on the horns. I prefer the BBb sound more, it sounds more punchy while still sounding broad and rich.

The 197 is like a brand-new set of strings and the Nirschl is a 2-year-old set. They both sound great.

Both horns sound great! I prefer the Nirschl over the Melton because it sounds smoother while keeping a punchiness to it

I definitely prefer the sound of the nirschl. The larger bell flare fills up the hall so much more than that of the 197. Still, both sound incredible!

I feel the opposite. I made my way around Eastman on a Rudy meinl 5/4 BBb and a meinl Weston fafner. I strongly believe in the superiority of the kaisertuba

They sounded so similar, I could barely tell the difference tbh. Shocking.
@theatavist51205 жыл бұрын
yeah the player is honestly a good 80% of how a tuba sounds, esp when they're both great horns. I think the Nirschl is a bit broader and less punchy than the Melton, filling up the room better but not providing quite as much clarity as the German style. Honestly though the difference is so subtle that only tubists would care haha.
@bobcat245 жыл бұрын
The Atavist I’m a tubist myself, and they both sounded exactly the same to my ears. I couldn’t even hear a difference in the last 20% that is affected by the horn itself.
@theatavist51205 жыл бұрын
@@bobcat24 It's not your ears. You really need good headphones and have to already know what to listen for in order to hear the difference. Even then, it's so subtle that I might just be imagining it.

What are the difference in terms of playing between a Bb tuba and a C tuba?
@fausto86865 жыл бұрын
The fundamental pitch of a Bb is Bb, when you play a Bb on a Bb tuba it is played open (no valves) on C the fundamental pitch is C, up a whole step from Bb which is a result of the C tuba having less tubing than the Bb (16ft vs 18ft) on C tuba when you play open, you’ll get a C. Basically it’s just pitched up a whole step from a Bb tuba so you will have to use different fingerings compared to a Bb tuba. Same goes for F and Eb which are bass tubas and have even less tubing (Eb has 14 I believe and F has something like 12.5 I can’t exactly remember off the top of my head)

In real life: being PERFECTLY in tune with your standmate gives you more power than a $$,$$$ fancy instrument does.

A 6/4 tuba is bigger than a 4/4 tuba on a linear scale...But music is not linear. Music is logarithmic. There's not a whole lot extra gained. In some SPECIFIC halls you might get enough extra to gain reverberation from floor/understage pit...but even then you have to be seated in the exact location. 2 disciplines players on 4/4 are worth 3 huffing into 6/4 tubas.

I preferred the C tuba over the Bb tuba. The sound was more rounder and controllable than on the Bb. On the C it seemed you could do better dynamics and its tone fit this piece better than the Bb.

Hi whats the use of a 5th valve on bb flat tuba.
@bobcat245 жыл бұрын
It lowers the pitch by a flat whole step. So for BBb, it’s result in a flat Ab. This is useful for low range intonation when pitches would otherwise go sharp. For example, 4+5 would result in an in tune low Eb. Hope this helps!

sagat64 awesome i just wanted to ask which one of them can lower is it the bb flat or the cc tuba
@bubo83296 жыл бұрын
Honestly, in general, anything lower than Bb0 isn't going to be used regardless. BBb tubas are widely used for their ability to play low notes fuller and more resonant. However, CC tubas go just as low and are incredibly diverse. It really boils down to where you live. Americans generally use CC tubas professionally while European players generally use BBb tubas professionally. Size is where it really matters. If you're wanting to play for a big ensemble like a symphony orchestra, you should probably look for a 6/4 tuba. That's basically all they're used for though. Solo pieces and ensembles of smaller quantities are normally played on 4/4 or 5/4 sized horns. The sizes are in all honesty, pretty useless and arbitrary. However, they'll give you an idea for the relative size of the horn. To fully answer your question though, the only thing that is different between CC and BBb tubas is that their base pitches are different. If you want something that's easier to hit low notes on, get a BBb. More information than you needed but I'm bored and tired so THERE YA GO
