Greetings from Czech republic. Nice video. And some informations to history. CZ 75 BD Police was new police carry gun since 1992. Before 1989 police had CZ 50/70 in 7,65 mm Browning and CZ 82 in 9 mm Makarov. CZ 82 is same as CZ 83 (7,65 and 9 mm Browning). Now (since 2000 I think) is standard police carry gun CZ 75 Compact PCR - and you have 100% right - PCR means - Policie České republiky - Police of Czech republic.

I love the PCR shoots great carries very well, have the upgraded Mec-Gar 15 rd mags. Personally I feel a better gun than the Glock 19, that being said the 19 gets the kudos for best carry pistol, but the PCR for more accurate and a safer option. Agreed a learning curve for DA/SA but once learned its no problem. Ever have a light primer strike or hard primer in a 19? Well no problem for the PCR, squeeze trigger again and bang it goes. Had that problem on the range at a class with supplied ammo, (Legend FMJ), some ranges you must use their ammo! But I had no problem. Kinda a plus for DA/SA guns. Outside of that class I've never seen that in other classes I've been too or have been an RSO at. My 2 cents YMMV.

I have the CZ 75 B full size & the original all steel CZ 75 B compact, which I carry a lot. One thing no one ever mentions about the B's with the safety, which only works in the cocked & locked position, which unlike my 1911's I don't like to carry the CZ that way. But what's never mentioned is that they are safe to carry in the 1/2 cocked position, which takes up a ton of the double single action weight off of the trigger. Plus what I like about carrying mine in 1/2 cock is there is a small amount of take up till you hit the wall, then a nice straight pull for a much crisper first shot, much easier to stage without actually pulling the trigger,..then the single action pull is wonderful after that. The curved trigger on the originals too are just way better felling than most triggers on say a Glock Block. Love my CZ'S, might be the best kept secret out there for folks that don't study or participate in shooting. CZ'S flat out rock, might have to get a third one after the Civil War is over. We win by the way.

The CZ 75 spawned one of the most incredible line of pistols _ever,_ I bought a P10F a couple years ago and loved it (still love it) so I took a chance and went for something more expensive from CZ, my guy at my favorite gunstore talked me into buying an SP-01 Competition, which is a hand-fit CZ Customs SP-01 manual safety with special attention to the trigger and springs. I loved it immediately, but then started looking at all the things people were doing to improve their SP-01's for competition, and eventually got pretty nit-picky lol. At this point, I've got close to $1500 worth of upgrades into it, it shoots as well as any Shadow 2, TSO, TS2, or any of the other higher end CZ Customs line, with a 1.8lb trigger which has only .050" thousandths of travel (.033" take-up to the wall, less than .002" creep, and .017" over-travel) making it a speed demon in the hands of even the most mediocre shooter like me😂. At first I converted it to SAO and replaced almost all the internals with CGW parts, then I got into the weeds and precision mirror polished _everything_ that moves (including all the CGW parts, along with a slight trim to the hammer hook height), I removed the firing pin block -because screw that huge reset- by cutting the leg off the lifter arm and removed the spring and plunger. Later I added a Shield RMS red dot on a dovetail mount, I replaced the barrel with a CGW fluted and threaded barrel with a TTS compensator on it, I installed a DPM Systems 3-stage recoil buffer mainspring with a CZ frame buffer pad, I replaced the grip with short grips to install a CZC flared magwell, and then finally installed a Cross Armory thumb rest/gas pedal with a nice big custom molded thumb rest (I had a tablesaw accident, it's the only way I can properly maintain grip😢). I suppose if I had actually known how much I would throw into this pistol I probably would have just saved some more and got a CZ Czechmate, but hindsight is 20/20 as they say. Either way I adore this pistol, it's my best shooter by leaps and bounds. CZ rocks!

I got lucky, the day I looked for a PCR locally it was there, brand new. It is my edc and as he said the 75 series are tanks but like many designs there are stress points that one should be aware of when considering it for carry. 1: If you have a model with a firing pin block, that pin (it's firing pin retaining pin) in the slide can eventually be damaged and even broken by dry fire, primarily due to the shape of the standard firing pin. There is a sharp edge on it where the two meet. However, the physical resistance of hitting an actual primer will absorb enough of the forward energy of the firing pin that live fire will cause negligible wear. Using snap caps (rotate and replace them eventually, the rubber/plastic in the fake primer will eventually no longer contact the firing pin, thus now doing nothing. Unless you got a fancy one with springs instead.) or placing a little rubber O-ring in front of the firing pin where the hammer meets (Don't forget to take it out when done!) when dry firing will prevent this. Cajun Gun Works makes a much stronger replacement pin that is like $5 and is easy to install, although I managed to break this one too after thousands and thousands of dry fires because I had not thought of the snap cap primers wearing down. Shooting is a continuous learning experience. Cajun Gun Works also makes an extended firing pin that isn't quite as sharp where it hits the retaining pin. 2: The factory trigger return spring does not like dry fires in double action and can snap from doing this over and over and over a lot, like I do. Dry fire is important! Another (relatively) easy replacement with one that will stand up to this better. I know Cajun Gun Works makes a replacement and I believe CZ Custom does as well. 3: The slide stop has a life of about 15,000-20,000 rounds on steel frame ones, I haven't heard of this breaking on alloy frames like the PCR (the alloy frames are a bit wider, thus the stop is as well)or P-01. Another easy replacement.
@justinm.7914 жыл бұрын
Suggestions are on point!!! I use snap caps in everything, and any time I pick up a hammer fired CZ I immediately replace the TRS with a CGW spring.

I added the TruGlo TFX Pro sights to all my CZ pistols and they are easy to install and provided the best of both worlds, for both the range and low light environments. Also consider Cajun Gun Works for trigger upgrades. My CZ 75 and PCR now feel like my Shadow target after the Pro Package. Not cheap, but well worth the price for the enhanced trigger. Another difference between the PCR and the P01 is that the slide release on the P01 is longer than the PCR so it is easier to reach without changing your grip. Also, the mag base on the PCR is thin metal and can dig into your pinkie finger if you have medium-larger hands. The P01 mags have a curved plastic base that is gentler on your pinkie. As you said, the rail adds mass to the front of the gun, which I consider an advantage even if you don't plan to use the rail. I've owned both of these guns, sold the PCR and kept the P01
@ddyoder6 жыл бұрын
Apparently there are a few different variants of the PCR nowadays. Some are shipping with the P01 mags with curved plastic base vs. the original PCR thin metal base. But the slide release difference seems to be constant where the P01 is larger/easier to reach. CZs are great and glad you enjoy yours!

CZ's are just awesome. Get one if your a gun guy. If you don't like it you'll sell it no problem. Chances are you'll end up with a bunch more. They used to be an absolutely silly value. Nearly free for what you get. Still a great deal. For people new to shooting, you'll likely get introduced to all the plastic guns first. Not a bad thing, but you should experience a hammer fired gun made of metal with a nice trigger. A true pleasure and something you feel happy to own for a long time. Author here makes a great point. The gun store will likely give you a blank stare if you ask about a CZ. Find a shop that sells them or just mail to your FFL. 90% of the guys at the gun counter belong at the cellphone store.

The D stands for decocker but the B stands for firing pin block/hammer block. What a nice collection of CZs

I have a CZ P-01 and it shoots very well. I was thinking about getting the SP-01 but the classic design of the BD is definitely winning me over.

I hear you but the SP01 shoots A LOT better

Few people mention that, if you have time, you can thumb cock the hammer and have a single action first shot also. In an emergency close range situation you can pull the trigger for a double action first shot or carry cocked and locked. These are great guns.

Just bought my first two CZs. P-01 Omega that came into my local shop and then had them order my Shadow 2 that same day. I'm hooked and not looking back. I am however going to take some time and get used to the S2 before it becomes my dedicated USPSA production gun.

Walked into my LGS yesterday and asked if they had a PCR. They did. Now they don't. ;-) The PCR has been my unicorn hunt for some time now. Sure, I could have ordered one online, but I have enough experience with CZs that I knew I really wanted to handle one, and check out the trigger, before buying. Turned out I was doubly lucky - first, I found one, and second, the trigger was quite good for an out of the box CZ. I can already tell my other carry options are going to gather dust.

Awesome video, thank you! I got my first CZ (P01 omega) and now I have the itch to get more!

The roll pin is the "firing pin stop". The "firing pin block" is , as you stated only on the "B" models. The shadow utilizes a "firing pin retaining plate"much like a 1911.

I was lucky enough to score a PCR the other day. Ordered a set of the regular TFX sights instead of the Pro's, as I don't care for contrasting color sights. The part number is TG13CZ1A. I called TRUGLO for tech tips, and the rep said TRUGLO doesn't make sights for the PCR. I told him I've seen plenty of PCR's on youtube with TFX sights, and he got downright crappy with me, pretty much hung up on me. This was the second set I bought from them, there won't be a third. Sooch00 posted a video on how to install them on a PCR, and TRUGLO posted an attaboy on his informative tips. It makes no sense.
@b0men6 жыл бұрын
The Truglo TFX will work on your PCR because they are designated for a 75b/SP01/P01 etc. All of the metal base-model CZs have the same sight channels and install process. There should even be a roll pin notch on the front sight already drilled from the factory. :) TruGlo probably said that because most people don't even know what a PCR is. Install your sights and blast away!

I have had TFX sights on my PCR for over a year --- installed by my local gunsmith. Don't get it with the rep --- some things just do not compute. Agree on the contrast color thing --- thought the white ring jumped out better than the orange.

I'm having major shadow envy of your 2 tone model. I have the all black model, crazy how well it shoots compared to other pistols.

Nice concise video, good explanations of the ones you own. CZ models can be confusing to many. I have the steel frame safety equipped SPO1. I did not like the DA trigger pull weight. Instead of paying the high cost for a Cajin or CZ Custom trigger I Bought for approx $30 the mcarbo 5 spring kit and installed them. Whala! Made a big difference in DA and also a noticeable difference in the SA pull weight. Probably 3.5 lbs in SA mode.

Whoop! You have the same aftermarket sights on your PCR that I run. For range fun I like my 75 BD, however, the one I have FAR more rounds through is the PCR. This is the one that actually replaced a 1911 Commander that I had carried for many years. I was one of those 1911 guys who never thought he would change, then along came CZ...

Good thing the PCR's in 2019 are in abundance. I can find them at every local gun shop here in California now. I guess there was a real high demand for these hand guns last year.

Slide stop / slide release levers also differ between classic 75 and allow SP lines, both in pin and lever length. Allow frames are thicker, therefore slide stop pins are longer and spring retention groves do not line up with narrower steel frames. While same frame slide stop / slide release levers from the same width frames are interchangeable, swapping between steel and allow frame slide stops is not possible. Classic 75 down angle beaver tail does make a drastically different grip vs a the straight SP line beaver tale, and it's a catch 22. Down angle beaver tail will leave a mark on the web of your hand, and initially will feel uncomfortable in comparison to straight beaver tail. Straight beaver tail definitely creates a lower bore axis hold, which is especially useful with heavy, full frame CZs for competition use. The most pronounced difference in feel between down angle and straight beaver tails is in a down vs forward grip hold angle of the frame. I have ground the bottom edge from my Compact down angle beaver tail, and while it does feel that there is more pressure on the web of the hand which feels awkward in comparison to straight beaver tale of the SP line during dry fire, during live fire the extra tension on the web of the hand creates a faster on target return. That's the irony of the unicorn steel frame CZ 75 compact with a rail and a straight beaver tail. It weighs more then the classic 75 Compact, but for some shooters it shoots slower then the classic Compact becasue of the difference in beaver tails.
