On this first installment of the series we do the usual, compression test before disassembly.
Watch along to find out what we found and the cause of such issues
The plan for the build and target potential as well as a tip on identifying B16a pr3 head cores.
Current Set-Up is
B16a pr3 ported head on ITR dual springs
B18c1 GGSR cams
ITR intake manifold
(soon to be skunk2 pro series ported)
1UP pistons w/ ARP rod bolts stock rods

@@BenjieCoB20VTEC really depends on owner budget but the japan replacement is the most cost friendly ones the “Dokuro” brand

@@BenjieCoB20VTEC I think later on they changed color boxes lol but yes sir same here back with my old Hatch, I ran dokuro and that included 20+ events in Clark and more than 50 dyno tests it held up fine

Quick question for you, I’m going to send my b18c1 to be refreshed and I want to make more power this time since you are not coming to the US anytime soon! What’s a good combination of compression and bore for b18c1 , I’ll be using stock head and cams, I can have it sleeve if needed, the head will be street ported this time, also it will be tune on 93, I also have a stock b20 block if you think b20 block will be better! Thanks for having this amazing channel, your builds are incredible!

I think for a 93oct fuel target that sounds good Stock head and cams just means u safer with no more than 11.2:1 comp so that’s easy for u and the street port will def be of big help The displacement will always have an edge so a 2.0 will be nice and since it’s a stock cam? The valves won’t be in so much danger on stock b20 pistons (the pockets are off for vtec) so that could be all good This then can let u save the b18c1 block for future plans or turbo hmmmm

@@SRDmotorsports it was turbo already and I’m changing back to NA because I will be circuit tracking now, I was thinking to sleeve and bore to 84mm with supertech pistons, high comp? I might be able to get cams too if needed but still at 93 gas? What do you think?

Good video. Great content. Very informative. Been liked and subscribed for a while and I like doing this old b series stuff myself. Eager for breather system on b20v as there is only on valve cover.

Could it be from valve lash neglect in thr 5yrs of ownership?

if it’s valve lash let’s say 0.007” intake and it got big to 0.012” It’s still too small to actually hit anything and if it did hit? The mark on the pockets will be more than just “carbon” markings Next episode will have more goods 😎

And great suggestion… though it’s just something I can write and talk about in a span of 2-3mins… then come to think of it… This B20vtec project or an upcoming d16 project I can actually dedicate a specific video that covers exactly what you talked about and relating it to a proper “build” assembly Great suggestion man!! It’s too short for a b20/b18 application Need either a TypeR or ARP head studs

did this engine have any piston to valve clearance using clay before when it was first built?

didn’t check cuz it’s just a gsr cam and the 1Up pistons sit 0.030” below deck and the valve pockets are “bigl it’s an Arias dome based design

Just manufacturing generation, all same head the later head has more core shift kaso sa pinas un mas mahal kase mas bago “daw” lol

Heck yeah can't wait to see what it throws down when your done. Was base timing still set when you did a compression test or did it jump time? Also I like venting from the valve cover vs the back of the block less likely to fill up your catch can with oil

Yes sir brother! I’m as excited! And yep distributor timing is good and I did check the camgears/belt it didn’t jump so it was a weird scene… I hear ya on venting and that’s a good observation and yes both works good

@@SRDmotorsports also curious on what numbers he will make. My set up I B20 block bored to 84.5mm high comp pistons, speed factory rods, acl oil pump and bearings, b16 head doubled up on exhaust side valve springs with gsr camshafts, stock intake with 70mm skunk 2 TB mounted to a b16 trans. I don't know what power it makes cause I street tuned it

Do GSR c1 cams have more lift and duration than the b16a? How about compared to b16a2? Very informative and quality to detail vids

actually we did the b16a vs CTR comparison and degreed so on this series il degree this b18c1 and we can compare all 3… I don’t have a b16a2 sadly But I believe the GSR is supposed to be closer to the 96-88 ITR but the ITR having the edge But I am uncertain on that but I’m sure we will find out this B18c1 soon :)
