This video was made as suggested by Raul, who I would like to thank him for his e-mail. Hope the video answer his question.
In this video, we talk about how to set up the FMC to intercept VOR radials outbound and inbound.
In both cases, I like to utilize the fix page to at least, have an indication of the radial as a reference.
Outbound intercept:
1- Put the VOR as the first point in the legs page.
2- Take it again to the scratch pad and build a way point with the radial you are plannine to intercept and track. You need to have a distance as well. Use 50nm or any distance that is more than you think the clerance is going to be. Remember this is just an intercept and usually you will have a direct to fix or a different clerance in a short time.
3- Put this point that you just made in L2.
4- Reselect this point to the scratch pad and then put it on top in the legs page.
5- Verify the INCP CRS, and make it big. Then excute.
Inbound Intercept:
1- Put the VOR on top in the legs page as if you want to proceed direct to it.
2- In the intercept course, enter the bearing to the VOR, for example to track radial 180 inbound the bearing is going to be 360.
3- Make the INTCP CRS big, then excute.
Comments are more than welcome, if you have any topic in mind please let me know as well.
Thank you
Abdul

Hi Tom, VOR/LOC will track the radial weather you are flying to or from the VOR. hope that help.

@@AbdulmuatiAsiri37 thank you and in terms of a vor approach can you fly it all using lnav and vnav or would you have to use vor loc at some stage ? Aswell as is there such a thing a VOR Alpha and VOR Bravo maybe something to do with how offset the station is ?
@AbdulmuatiAsiri37
@AbdulmuatiAsiri37 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can fly a VOR approach using LNAV/VNAV if the approach is in the data base (FMC) the only thing you need to remember is that at least one of the pilots should have the VOR frequency tuned and identified, it is a VOR approach after all. As far as Alpha & Bravo notation in the approach I don’t know I will get back to you when I get the answer 😉 Thanks again for the great questions Ask the best Abdul

Great video cap! A question...is it better to use your method that you showed us in this video, or just adjusting the MCP Course and using the VOR LOC switch on the MCP? Thanks!! Youre videos are great!

Hello Gabriel, Thank you for the question, Personally I like to go raw data if I am in unfamiliar area or if I get the instructions to arc suddenly. If however I am flying in a familiar place and I have done this arc many times and expecting it, I might go with building it in the FMC. Hope that help. All the best Abdul

Great video capt, I wonder if we can set anti ice flight level on the fmc
@AbdulmuatiAsiri37
@AbdulmuatiAsiri37 6 жыл бұрын
Hello All Mustafa, That is absolutely correct you can set ant-ice flight level in the FMC, If you go to the DES page then FORECAST at the top right (R1) You will find TAI ON/OFF So you enter the altitude for when the TAI is going to be on and then when is it going to be off. Hope that answer your question. Thank you and please let me know if you have any more question or comments. Abdul

I have been watching your videos and I really like this one. This is what some of us need to fully understand how this works, since this procedure of radial intercept is very rare in every day flying. Great job Comandante!!

Do you start at the fix page just for situational awareness? Is it really necessary to enter the radial into the fix page or can you just start straight by modifying the inbound course?
@AbdulmuatiAsiri37
@AbdulmuatiAsiri37 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Joshua, Yes that is the main reason situational awareness.

Why not use a HSI .... This would be way more easier in my opinion as a more old fashioned 707 FSX sim pilot....hm anway a great video again :) Thank you very much !:)

Hello Friedrich, You are absoulutely correct using raw data sometimes can be easier. This is one more tool or option to do it. I belive flying used to be more fun and built strong skills for pilots prior to the glass cockpit. Now we are becoming too depended on the computers in the airplane. Thanks a lot for sharing your thouhgt. Abdul

Thanks for your quik response, yes flying in the old days was way more "hands on" so to say :) ..... 1000 things to take care of..... Minimum support from the AP..... I think you could call this flying, real "flying" ....today its one big programming....But what we can do? :) thanks again ! Happy flying !!!

Hello Captain, I enjoyed to see your lesson thank you for that. I have also a question: when you are at final are you using yoke for speed and trust for correct hight? Also are you using a lot of trim changing during the landing in stead of pulling or push the yoke? Have a nice weekend!
@AbdulmuatiAsiri37
@AbdulmuatiAsiri37 6 жыл бұрын
Hello G L, Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. Regarding your question: That is correct, pitch for speed and power for altitude. Trim should be minimised on the approach, but if you have a cotinouse pressure on the yoke then its best to relief it using the trim.
@ChiDraconis

@@AbdulmuatiAsiri37 This is why trim-rocker-switch is on the Control Yoke - on Boeing Designs that I know of and should be Yoke Mounted for contemporary Embraer - I do this for my retirement decades as it interests me to study IFR Enroute Low ••• Is this recreational simulator or studies?
