Hello again! How do you do. I present to you here, The pilots view of one of the shortest flights we do on the B747. Singapore to Penang. There are others that are shorter like Frankfurt to Amsterdam. The first segment is a time-lapse if the pushback and departure from Singapore. The second segment picks up the flight again on the final approach to landing in Penang runway 04. We pick it up just on a thousand feet to touchdown. I’ve put in the usual captions so you can understand what is happening. I was pilot flying the sector.when we are not very heavy, we don’t use reverse thrust- the wheel brakes are sufficient to decelerate. The Reverse thrust is selected to the idle position only in readiness in case we decide to use it. On short sectors the aircraft will of course be medium to light weight so wheel brakes suffice. It reduces maintenance costs on the reverser system/less fuel used and for a lot of airports, reduces the noise footprint.
Hope you like it- ‘Chi Di Gin! Later’😀✈️✈️✈️✈️

Loved it, great to see the Cathay B747 from the cockpit view. Have been in the 747 on Cathay in both Business and First. I really miss this plane from a passenger's perspective.

@Pilot_obet ... What have you done to this video?? You added music and your choice of music is terrible man! The 2nd part had the sounds of the cockpit and engine, which was awesome. Thanks again for the video. Keep 'em coming ... without music please 😃😃

Cathay was one of a few operators that used "sixty" for the altitude callouts. Is there any aircraft that still has that callout?

@@subthermosphere I am talking about Boeing. The callouts 80, 60, 35 are optional callouts which are very rare. Cathay used in 777 and 744 the Callouts 60.

I think those Mode 6 EGPWS Callouts were only in use during the Kai Tak days. Probably reverted to the more standard Mode 6 options once operations switched to the new airport.
@AVIATIONSOUNDEXPERT
@AVIATIONSOUNDEXPERT 3 жыл бұрын
@@dingerbell100 No, they were used also when Chep Lap Kok was opened. It was availible in 777 and 744. With old and current voice. Boeing offers the callouts 60 and 80 and 35 since many years. It has nothing to do with the airport. 60,80,35 are very rare. I know that Thales Avionics has these callouts, too. Some airlines use only one altitude callout like 50 or 20. So it is only an airline option and Cathay was known for using the callout "60".

@@AVIATIONSOUNDEXPERT I did not say “they were available with the airport” They are pin program selectable EGPWS Mode 6 Call Out Options that individual operators can choose to have as standard on their fleet of aircraft. They were selected when Cathay used Kai Tak as their main base of operations. Perhaps? When Cathay moved across to the new airport at Chep Lap Kok with the more standard ILS approaches they opted to pin program more standard EGPWS Mode 6 callouts???
