Wish we lived in a time when people could just appreciate a good horse in its own right rather than constantly trying to pick holes in their form or comparing them to the good horses of yesteryear. Baaeed has achieved exceptional things. Horses in the past have also achieved exceptional things. There will be horses in the future that achieve exceptional things. If people could just realise how hard it is to get a horse to win a group 3 let alone a group 1 and let alone multiple group 1s it might just make them understand how good these horses really are.

It's a good job Baaeed never raced in the Arc he would have been closer to last than first. I don't believe it was just the ground that was his undoing, lack of stamina was also responsible. One underperformance doesn’t make a career. People are so quick to jump on the “overrated” bandwagon due to one underpar run on testing ground, whilst most top class G1 horses or even greats get beaten multiple times throughout their career. Can you imagine if we downplayed every great horse after being beaten once? Horses ability should be judged on what they did on their best days. There's "Frankel-like" and then there's Frankel. Imagine if Baaeed had been in the same Queen Anne renewal Frankel won. Would he have fared any better than Excelebration did that day? Highly unlikely, IMO. Frankel wasn't a soft ground loving horse either. Yet on his Champion Stakes swan song he overcame the same type of obstacles as Baaeed faced today. Worse ground actually, and was challenged by arguably one of, if not the best soft ground horse in racing at that time in Cirrus Des Aigles. @stevens99962 жыл бұрын
Bay Bridge was essentially a Group 2 horse before this race, and likely that's still what he is after this race. I doubt Adayar has run anywhere near his best, and Baaeed has probably run more than a stone below his best, whatever that was. He thrashed Mishriff last time, but that horse was on a downward spiral, and before that he was beating up not very much over a mile. It's not like Brigadier Gerard beating Mill Reef, and neither was Frankel beating Excelebration. He looks overrated, and it was sad to see him go down waving a white flag. There have been some very good horses who have still got the job done despite not enjoying the surface. He never looked remotely to do that and his jock has just given up.

Baaeed had a terrible draw, it wasn’t ground related. Jim Crowley messed around with the horses rhythm and breathing at the start, he kept trying to switch to the outside which he couldn’t do and baaeed was in trouble early. If you watch baaeed his head his hanging left which he doesn’t normally do and he hated the kickback. He should have just rode for luck from stall 1, if you have the horse under you then you will get the gap. You also have to sit very close to the horse in front to avoid the kickback, can you see how there is distance between him and the horse in front. Baaeed was catching all the kickback because of that and was never truly settled because of this and Crowley trying to switch him out, that’s why he couldn’t finish the race!
