Same, same. I've never thot to look up Ram Das on KZbin. He initiated me with *Be Here Now* back when I was in High School in the 70's. I still have the book. I had no idea there was so much more material publicly available and that it was advanced enuf to keep in front of me. The video's description fails to mention that, just months after giving this talk, Ram Dass renounced Ma Jaya as a fraud in an article titled 'Egg On My Beard', published in Yoga Journal, sometime in 1976. The article's pdf is easy to find and I encourage everyone to read it.

Yes, it is disheartening when phony gurus take advantage of people, but not all gurus and spiritual teachers are phony. Ram Dass's own guru, Neem Karoli Baba, seems to have been the real thing. And to his credit, Ram Dass was not fooled by Ma Jaya for long. Moreover, when he realized it, he wrote the Yoga Journal article detailing everything, including his own personal failings that had contributed to him being taken in by the ridiculous Brooklyn housewife-guru with the false eyelashes. As for Ma Jaya 'knowing things', Ram Dass indicates that he was dazzled by a clever combination of "lies and half-truths" and, ultimately, subject to his own spiritual greediness. It's a cautionary tale showing that even a doctorate in psychology from Harvard University does not make one immune to scams like the one which the former Dr. Richard Alpert fell for.

@@vanglover6030 Yes I did read the journal, if he can be conned then where does that leave us? :P Thankyou for taking the time out and responding. I also cannot fully trust a holy man, when I was in tiruvanmalai I was told of a siddha, and I went to see him but he lived in a dingy place, and one part of me was extremely cautious and alert, sitting near the door to make sure I could run and escape if need be, maybe because of that I never really opened myself in those moments when he was meditating right in front of me, he wouldn't talk or make eye contact with anyone. I wonder if the time of sages has passed by, there was a time when so many pure souls were on this earth, Ramana Maharishi, Neem Karoli Baba, Swami Sivananda, and now I feel the world is getting so chaotic and there seems to be no one to guide us out of the matrix. I have reached a time in my spiritual journey where I feel depressed and alone, I was never depressed growing up, even though life was difficult because I had hopes and dreams, and now I've been told by the teachings left behind of the great sages that it's hopeless to have any hope, dreams and any real desire. I know so many things intellectually but it's of no use since I don't know know it, it's not my experience and hence has not improved the quality of my mind, or life. Long post , sorry, just felt like sharing!
