If you look closely, the janitor's hair was brown, while the judge was blonde. Perhaps they're brothers.

This movie was soo far ahead of its time. It is arguably one of the most overrated films of all time, in its own category. The music, the quotes, the characters...damn it - flealick's scene as well as the whole build-up prior to the pitbull almost drowning. Talk about a movie that appeals to all ages, Pixar

you probably meant underrated right? but yeah totally agree amazing movie
@Scoonertuna9 жыл бұрын
I agree. This movie shows us, no matter how deep the pit of darkness and depression goes there is always light at the end. That light comes in the forms of many things: A good samaritan, a judge, a pig, a pitbull, etc. Though the darkness comes in many forms, the snooty neighbors and the pound, the light always finds a way to come put still pure. This movie shows Babe grow as a character and I liked it.

Eh. I always think of Don Bluth's (the creator of All Dogs Go To Heaven and An AMerican Tale) quote whenever people complain of a kids movie being too dark: "it doesn't matter how dark a story is; if it has a happy ending, kids will be able to take it." Sometimes, darkness is needed in a story, and it's a great way to teach kids that the world isn't always a happy place, but there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel. And the original movie was pretty dark too. Sure, it's about a pig who learns to be a sheepdog, but there's always this underlying theme that farm life is a harsh life, especially for the animals who live in it... There's the sheep rustlers who steal Maa's friends, the wild dogs who maul Maa to death, the scene where most of the sheep flock drowns in the flood (and Rex loses his hearing), Fly's depression after her puppies are sold, the revelation that all of Babe's family were probably killed and eaten, the possibility that farmer Hoggett will eat Babe for Christmas dinner (and the eventual reveal that Ferdinand's girlfriend was eaten instead).

if only superman fans could get over the 'too dark' crap
@TheFemPC5 жыл бұрын
But it wasnt though, it was just less subtle with the dark themes. The first movie literally started with babe becoming an orphan. the second act is about animals being killed if they dont have a purpose other than becoming meat. Farmer Hogget is about to kill babe with a shotgun because he believed he'd killed Ma, Rex attacks Fly and gets sedated, he runs away because of the scheming cat telling him no one though of him as more than food, etc... They lived on a farm and it was bright and hopeful because that was the theme; Babe having a chance at a promising future through his own kindness and determination, and also the prosperity and richness of a detached sort of paradise that was the farm. The second film presents a unique challenge to the main character because its a much less friendly, communal place where survival is hard and the world is crowded, but it ends back on the farm where everything is bright again because the protagonist triumphed in his efforts through his steely determination to find positivity in such a cruel place. I think it was quite nice really. Babe was looked after on the farm by the animals when he was lost, and he in turn looked after others in the city when they were lost. I remember it as being a tad scary as a kid but wow, the wave of emotion and relief when everything worked out. it was no worse than The Fox and The Hound, or Bambi, or any movie that has moments of hopelessness.

All the gross ethnic and racial parodies are also, I suppose, great psychology lessons? I care what anyone has to say, but the sort of dirty coward who gives the Roman Emperor's thumb down but declines to say why doesn't faze me.
