One possibility is that Ruth literally was born out of wedlock. Which is not far fetched. Former President Grover Cleveland voluntarily paid child support to a mother who had claimed to have had his child out of wedlock. Some biographers have claimed that Cleveland's parentage was questionable, because it was common for professional men in the 19th century to accept paternity claims made by single mothers. On the other hand, Babe Ruth did resemble his father physically. An aspect of German history that was obscured in the era of German unification was the German peoples were much more fractured and diverse than are remembered retrospectively in history, or art. The Romani, for instance, settled all over land that was unified into modern Germany--those communities were infamously massacred during the Holocaust. North African communities famously have lived in neighboring Holland and Germany for centuries. The point is that the image Europeans (and Americans) imagine when they say, "German," is self serving and misleading. This was a nation that was invented in the middle 19th century, and patched together out of the Holy Roman Empire, the Kingdom of Prussia, the Rhine Confederation, and a half-dozen other nations. "German" is not one ethnic group, but a mix of several ethnic groups in central Europe, some with ties to Africa, some to Central Asia. So if this video proves anything, it's that Ty Cobb is an a$$#ole.

@davewolf6256 • I've seen many white Europeans with similar facial features like Babe Ruth that have zero African ancestry and dna. There are even many people with such facial features who also have dark skin and wooly hair - The Melanesians - and unless recently mixed, have zero black African ancestry.. and DNA testing has proved this. Darker skin worldwide, for example: Is definitely not synonymous with black African ancestry; All those different features have to do with the human body adjusting to particular environments and weather etc. in order to survive. Throughout ancient and pre-history it's been the same for people in Africa, Asia, Europe and throughout the world. Unless proven by dna testing, nobody has the right to impose a " race " upon another unless that other willingly chooses to identify as such.

I know and met another German-American who was dark like Ruth was: Rudolph Sholz, who was a member of the American rugby team Olympic winners of 1920 and 1924. His parents were off the boat from Germany in the 1890s. I also knew a German-American who was very, very light skinned, but as with Ruth, had thick lips and a broad nose, and in fact could have passed as a relative of Ruth's, as both had very similar facial looks.

I think it's very possible that the Babe had some African heritage considering his facial features. In my own opinion, that shouldn't have mattered and black, hispanic, and any other racial group you can think of should have already been integrated into MLB. What people don't realize is there is only one race: HUMAN ! Do you realize we ALL share almost 99% of the same genes as the Chimpanzees ? What creates so much of the division amongst people is that we are very "tribal" animals and we bond with people who look like us and share common cultural ties. It's for protection and for identity.
