JAchica11, My mom had my sister at 40 and me at 44 and my grandmother had twins (girl and boy) at age 54 without treatment and had a son of 2, and daughters of 4, 9 and 12 years of their second marriage, and 4 older children from their first marriage. People insult the aged mothers by "envy, selfishness and ignorance". BYE.

I'm jenny & My mum and dad (carol and Ken) in this documentary are amazing I don't care what any of you have to say about age. You're only as old as the person you feel, i keep them young! They are now in there 70s and I'm 23. My childhood was brilliant I have learnt so much just from them both being so wise and life experienced. I have nieces and nephews around my age that are just like cousins. My older sister and brother are amazing. My actual cousins are older but we have always spent time together, they have children that I adore. My whole family is so much bigger and closer than I could ever ask for. I love it! I love my life and I'm still living at home with my mum n dad so it can't be that bad eh!!! So judge all you like but you have unfortunately never walked in my shoes so you cannot call my mother n father selfish. The most selfless couple ever! It does make me sad to think what if they aren't around for my children but what about if i hadn't been born and I had never had these 2 most amazing parents in the world! Some comments I have read are pure evil but maybe you just didn't get brought up to speak to people how you would like to be spoken to! But thank you to the other people who have lovely comments to make.

Jenny - I think your family is truly blessed. When I was watching the documentary some of the older women seemed self-absorbed and egotistical, but you parents next to that IVF couple (Jenny and Warren) seemed selfless, giving, loving, and just normal. I think God blessed your parents with you at such older age because they deserved it, being good people. I am glad you have large extended family. It would be lovely to see the follow up movie to this.

Jenny just remember there are a lot of positive posts on here too :) It is a shame that people feel the need to express such negative thoughts. My first thought was how thrilled your mum and dad looked to see you when you came out of school, you look like a loving family. I am inspired by this documentary as I was worrying I am getting 'too old' to have another child, but this doco gives me hope that it's never too late! Best wishes to your family.

I don't understand why everyone is judging the older women when there's so many older men having kids like it's nothing. Men in their 60s, 70s, etc. A bit sexist if you ask me.
@germyw

actress4life116 Oh. We judge them. Larry King was 70 having kids. It was ridiculous. He was/is all hunched over with his pant waist under his arm pits and shuffling taking his tiny son to the park and whatnot. If someone tried to grab the kid there wouldn't be a thing that old coot could do. The kid is probably 19 now and Larry could die at any time. That's incredibly selfish.

I think the reason the woman are judged and the men are not, is because woman who are much older have more possible complications due to the age of their eggs and uterus. A man consistently produces sperm, where as woman have their eggs all their life. It’s a true fact, I’d research it. So the older the egg, the more possible for complications with pregnancy and baby there are. That doesn’t mean a woman whom is older can’t have a healthy pregnancy because they do, it’s just more room for error unfortunately. I’m not condoning the judgement, I’m just explain why I believe they are judged. Also take into consideration, the younger you have children the more time you have with them, where as my father was 58 when he had me, and I was 21 when he passed away.

Exactly. Worse is that women tend to live longer than men. So, generally speaking, if men have their first child at a later age, they don't stay as long in their child's life as women, because of the average life expectancy. Though it isn't always the case fortunately.

My neighbors have finally adopted a child and they are in their 50s. I feel so bad because so many people have scolded them for taking this child because they are older. All I want to say about that is they are both retired and they are financially stable. They have so much time for this kid and they really wanted her. I love seeing older parents. A lot of the time it seems they are the ones really ready and prepared for it.

I got pregnant naturally at 44 and a half, gave birth to my son at 39.4 weeks pregnant at 45 yrs old. I am now 47 and my son is 2yrs and 4 months old today. I honestly didn't think I could get pregnant again, I have 2 grown adult children, and along came my surprise blessing without even trying. My baby son is smart, normal and genetically perfect. @@fatsmcgee4451 in 10 years she will be 57. That's not old at all. If you take care of yourself, age is just a number. I have seen 100 year olds in better shape than some 60 year olds. I've seen 90 year olds functioning better than 50 year olds. It's all in your genetic makeup & how you take care of yourself so why be rude to others when their genetics could be excellent? People have kids in their 20s and die in their 30s and noone bats an eye. Yet someone has a child in their 40s and dies in their 70s and it's so so cruel to the child for some reason when they've raised the child & the child is an adult at that point.. Makes no sense. No one knows the length of their time on this earth so your statement is irrelevant.

By that point in his life he had the financial stability to provide very well for us while also being able to make time for school events, extracurricular stuff and whatnot. He probably did a better job at being a father in his 50's than he would have in his youth... Unfortunately he got sick when I was in my late twenties. He wasn't alive to walk me down the aisle when I got married, and he isn't around to see his grandchildren grow up. As sad as that is, he was still a great dad to me, and I think a big part of that greatness is that he had the emotional maturity that comes with age.

My mom and dad were in their 40’s when they had me . I had an amazing life with with parents who were established and young at heart. They were business owners. No one guessed my mother’s age correctly because she kept herself so lovely and was always on the go. I’m 40 now and sadly I’ve lost both of my parents very suddenly. My dad died right after I graduated high school from a brain bleed due to an undiagnosed genetic illness that I have since been diagnosed with too. Even so, I wouldn’t change anything! The years I had with my father were very full of travels around the world and summers full of camping, boating, house parties with my family. My parents were financially stable by the time I came along and my older siblings always told me I was lucky. My mother got to be the best grandmother my kids could’ve ever asked for. Not once did she ever slow down. It was always a running joke if someone was rushing around the house they would be called by my mother’s name ;) unfortunately 7 years ago she too died suddenly. She died peacefully in her sleep and till this day we do not know why. She was what dr’s called a “picture of health” before she passed. The autopsy showed no health issues. I do miss her terribly!!! Out of five children I was the closest to my mom and do do credit that to her age . She was so thrilled when I unexpectedly came along. She always called me her unexpected blessing. RIP to the best parents I could’ve ever asked for.

People are too obsessed with age. Anyone, any age, can drop dead at any time for any number of reasons. That's no reason to revolve your entire life about which perceived age is or isn't ideal for your "life plan". The fact that it happens at all is a lottery, so whether you're 25 or 40 when it does is irrelevant. I know people who take their youth for granted and thing youth = vitality, not true. Take care of your bodies, live your life as it happens, don't sweat what other people think or what may happen in a future you can't predict.

I can speak to the experiences of being a young mom and being an older mom. I had my first two children when I was in my early 20's, they are both adults now. I also have a 2yr old son whom I had at 42 with NO medical interventions what-so-ever. It does not matter how old you are when you have babies, the exhaustion from caring for wee little ones is real at all ages. Being older does not make you more prone to it, these women never had children in their younger years so they assume it is part of age, because they have no experience to base it on, this is not so. I was just as exhausted in my early 20s. I conceived all my children naturally, including my son at 42. I gained so much more wisdom and patiences over the years too, stupid little things that bothered me before aren't even worth wasting my time on. I have always had an amazing relationship with my daughters and fully expect the same with my son.

Michelle, although i am a muslim man and you maybe Christian or a Jew. However, we would like you to share your wisdom and experience here, and what have you learned apart from patience from being a young and now an old mom. Because women or younger ones and youth specially do not understand this, they argue a lot. (Btw, i ain't no youth, i am 41 but still its good to learn). And they need to learn it, and it does not matter if i am living in Pakistan and you are living in US or any where else. Just share your experience. I am sure others would learn a lot from it.

Well, getting someone impregnated at that age is not, in any way, dangerous but being impregnated is. The change of miscarriage, complication or that the child will not be 100% healthy rose significantly. I'm not saying that there is no social controversy in being a parent to a young child when 50 or older, but there is a reasonable reason why there is an age limit.

I watch this with a certain sadness in my heart. In college among my friends I was predicted to be the one with four children in the future. I wasted my years in which to have a child by being responsible for a family member for 15 years and in long term relationships that never led to marriage. At 56 I still had that small flicker of hope. Unpredictably I was diagnosed with cancer. My advice is to make your plan to have children married or not when you are young. That is all I have to say about the matter.

I don't understand all the negatively that seems aimed mainly at older mothers (not older fathers). We still have this view in society that women are only useful, interesting, and worthy under 40 and then they should just go die so society doesn't have to look at them. The comments about older people being rejected for adopting kids are shocking. The fact that child services would rather a child rot away in the care system than have a loving home with older parents is horrifying and its unfairly ageist. Parents can die at any age, there's no guarantees that just because someone's a young parent that they're going to live to see their child grow up. And what's so great about these teen mums who see their kid as an accessory and are more interested in playing candy crush than looking after their accident? At least most older parents are passed that stupidity, they look after their kid, can financially provide for them and have a lot of wisdom to pass on.

Aliquo Nope. Old fathers are well-know to have invalid sperms, because of their age and former ways of living. Like old mothers, the risk of having disabled children is very high. As a teenager with old parents (55 and 65 respectively), and I honestly feel that I have benefited from having older parents. Both have travelled extensively, had their own lives, seen and done loads, and have many years of experience to draw on. Also my parents were far more liberal than most of my friend's younger parents. My mother had me at 36, and my brother at 40. Personally, if I had children, I wouldn't wait that long. I'm 19 - I wouldn't have any kids now, or even in the next few years. But I don't want to be in my 40's and desperately trying. Also, having PCOS means that it'd be hard enough as it is. In reiteration, I think my experience with older parents has only been positive. However, I personally think some of the health risks are too great, including the problems I already have, for me to even consider being an older parent. If it hasn't happened by 40, I'll either get a dog, or foster kids, probably both.

Not that simple, and for many people adopting wouldn't feel the same as having a biological child. It would be more cruel for both adoptive parent and child. Why is it the responsibility of sub-fertile people to adopt more then someone who can easily have their own biological children?

Mine does young also. By 25 me and my 7 other siblings are orphaned. A big loss.. I'm the oldest born in 1958. My mum had babies in 58, 59, 60, miscarried in 62, babies in 63, 65, 67, 68, 69 and 71( passed of cot death) she quit after that. She passed at 46. Dad passed at 49. Leaving 4 children under 18 whom my aunt and uncle took in. It was a sad time.

I was in my 30s when my dad passed away . I was 45 when my mom passed away and I feel like an orphan. Because it does not matter how old you are you never get over losing your parents . You could have had parents who were in their teens and got in a car accident and both been killed . Their r babies that lose their moms in child birth every day . How many years we are given r not up to us , honey . You got more years then lots of children do . Don't feel cheated feel blessed for everyday you had with them ! I know til the day I die I will always miss and need my parents but that is life ! Today is a gift and tomorrow is not promised to any of us unfortunately!

My great grandmother had 18 children between the ages of 18 and 50. Four of my aunts had their first child aged between 40 and 45. One of my uncles was 55 the first time he became a father, after many years of trying for a baby with my aunt, who was 45 when she fell pregnant. All children involved are very bright and healthy, and all the parents are very healthy. Friends of mine who are in their 20s have needed fertility treatments, including donor eggs and donor sperm. There are plenty of young parents who are useless, or who die tragically very early. There are plenty of older parents who are fantastic and live long, healthy lives. There are plenty of children who want children desperately when they are younger but are unable to due to finances (see Generation Y), health, carers' responsibilities, or the fact that their partner is unwilling or unable to have a child at that point. Everybody is different. Plenty of these older fathers are men who were too selfish or whatever to have children when they were younger. Sometimes they have babies with younger women, sometimes not. It is rarely because a woman doesn't realise until she turns 45 or 50 that she wants a baby when she never wanted one before. FFS.

Who are we to judge? Kudos to these people. As someone who worked with children for many years, I'd rather see older parents who actually want to have children and can offer love and maturity than to see other parents who simply had kids to "keep up with the joneses" and don't really care for them...Believe me, I saw many who fit in the second category, having kids just because that is what society said they were "supposed to do"...

They also had so much more experience than younger parents ( I have 2 older brothers and a sister). My sister was pregnant at the same time as my mum so her children has basically been my cousins and it's amazing. Yeah life can be difficult as my mum a lot older than other parents and my friends do know that but age shouldn't matter as long the parents are healthy 🙂😊

Hi Jenny, I am 62 almost 63 and have 3 sons from the same marriage. They are 37, 33 and 17. I had a baby by total surprise. At the point I found out I was pregnant I was 45 years old with a son who was in his 2nd year in college and one in his second year in high school. When my youngest was born he had brothers who were almost 20 and almost 16. I am glad I had him. My older sons are both married but didn't have children until they were 36 and 31. Even though I had my first baby at 25 I didn't become a Grandma until age 60. My youngest son has ADHD and has been more of a challenge.

My mom had me at 45. Nothing's wrong with me or her because of it. There can be risks but I think if you make sure you're healthy enough and are aware of what it'll be like it's fine to have a kid at that age. I guess the weirdest part is having a niece only 3 years younger than me, but my cousin has a nephew over twice his age and even he's just fine. OK why is everyone talking about the late 40's like its 100 or something .Like seriously in this day and age older people are healthier and more hip lol. One good it will do is that at least these kids will learn values of the older generation which is seriously lacking. These days seems like most kids live with their grandparents cause their parents are either too busy or something. Long as they are in relative good health and have the patience I say go at it? News flash you can be in your 20's and face severe health conditions or be on the brink of death.Death doesn't discriminate .But seriously 40-50 really is not that old.
