So for those who dont know. A chinchilla's fur is so thick that they cant clean themselves with water. Mold grows on them if they do. So they take dust baths instead as it prevents things from growing on em

I think it brings up the question of "nature or nurture" how much behavior (of this case of chinchillas) is instinctive and how much is taught? it seemed to me it might be a bit of both in this case, the baby (while curious) didn't make a effort of jump in the bowl of dust like mama. even after getting place directly to the bowl it seemed like it was like "wtf is this?" and the roll was 'reflexive' in a way? from what I saw of other dust bath vids chinchilla usually go crazy in their baths but baby was all "???". I wonder what other behaviors are instinctive? This was completely cute in its entire form XD. Watching babies learn and grow is amazing~

sweetkisses900 It's probably instinctive to look for dust and like it, but they need to learn what to do with it. Like a cat climbing down a tree or like a retrievers urge to get things back to you
@nortalian5495 жыл бұрын
It's the only way to get them clean. Their fur is too thick and fluffy to dry, so a wet chinchilla can actually get mold in its fur among other nasty things. So they take dust baths instead.

@@wattpad9728 Wait! So it's possible for cats to climb DOWN trees? This is something _every_ cat owner should teach their little moggies! Teach them to get down from the tree _themselves_ so the fire department doesn't have to be bothered with it! They've got more important things to do than retrieve stuck cats.

So precious! My gerbils, Mick and Keith used to LOVE dust baths. It was amazing to see them come out of the dust bath because their fur looked so soft, fluffy and very clean! That dust just soaks up the oil from their fur and the best part is they have so much fun rolling around in it. A win-win. ❤

Chinchillas are the only animals where you vacuum up your house and then empty it into a bowl for them to roll around in.

Lol, I have a chinchilla, he seems to enjoy flipping his dust bath and rolling in the dust on the floor. Luckily it's just ash and dust, so it vacuums up easily enough. It's funny, he will get in, roll around a bit, and then just put a paw on each side and chill like a human in a bathtub. All he's missing is a chinchilla sized book and wine lol.

I like how the giant sized chinchillas like “Move aside I needs it!”, few minutes later comes back with the “ I’m having another episode move back! Here it comes!” (Spin)

LMAO ... my late parents were always fond of telling me of how id crawled into the fireplace as a baby while unattended, and played in the ashes ... kinda like the chinchilla in this vid. I think i was like 6 mo old at the time. 😂 Mom said it was a horror show trying to get me clean again, because the ashes were EVERYWHERE ... hair, skin, daipers, mouth (yes, id eaten some).
