It’s impossible to talk about this album without talking about the greatness that is Danny Barker.

It's great to hear the great Baby Dodds in a group setting. This New Orleans style of play is so important to the drumming world. Buddy Rich often talked about how Dodds and his influence on drummers. Thanks for posting.

Amazing sound quality.. such a treat.. The musical styles are quite telling historically but that's for another time.. For now I'll just tap my foot and smile.. thank you BPJazz (the music changes to 'Creole' at around 24:00)

I'm loving this. I love how it will seem like Baby is straightening out the 8ths, but then you find out he's double timing the swing. I can only imagine what he sounded like in his prime.

Never heard Don Ewell before, but he has a remarkable understanding of Jelly Roll's style of New Orleans piano

Surely the bullseye theme tune is the poor-man's imitation of this type of rag time! (13mins ish) totally see why Papa Jo mentions dodds.. This guy is a percussive pioneer

I assume that Johnny Williams listed here on tambourine is the same Johnny Williams who drummed in The Raymond Scott Quintet, and was film composer/conductor John Williams Father!

It’s really bizarre how the first drum hit of the album sounds brutally late, like in any other era enough to ruin a take let alone the start of an album in the drummer’s name. There must have been some difficulties in the recording studio like he couldn’t hear the piano.
