I always wonder how whales see dolphins, do they consider them just smaller whales, or something entirely different but fun to play with like us with monkeys?

We recorded the whales sounds the same day by putting an underwater microphone down about 30 feet. It definitely wasn't at the exact same time as the drone video of the interaction but it was in the same area and could definitely be the same whales. The microphone can record sounds up to a mile away, I believe. It was recorded in the waters near the south shore of Kauai.

I would love to know if you can hear that amazing song even if those Wales are under the water and I'm like on a boat above or near to them. Clarification would be greatly appreciated from anyone in the know.

We can't hear the whale songs from the boat so we put an underwater microphone to record it. But we often can hear the dolphin sounds when they come close and ride the bow of the boat. It sounds like high pitched squeaks and clicking...and is always super special!
