I once found a painted turtle with a sharp thing coming out of the corner of its eye. I tugged at it with fine pliers thinking it was a thorn but it ended up being the tip of a HOOK, something she had apparently bitten and the point had gradually over time worked its way through the roof of her mouth into her eye socket. I took her to a vet who was able to surgically remove the hook and even save her eye, miraculously.

The guy gets an A+ for calmly taking care of the sharks' needs and recognizing it needed help. As for the shark, it's difficult to put a grade on a creature that was in dire need of help and had to approach its most dangerous predator, a human. However, the shark displayed a brave attitude and I commend the shark for doing so....

Most humans are utter scum. Killing 100 million Sharks annually just for wrong fear, egoism and dumb soup not even depending on this little ingredient. All their overfishing, nets, hooks, micro-plastic, ship wrecks, garbage pollution. Still animals up there in despair try all their soul asking for a bit of help in severe need. Cats, squirrels, sharks. Just very few got lucky getting an old soul human. Prolly can sense. The hook must have been there for many weeks if not months.

I just saw a video about a man who helped a tiger shark by removing a hook 20 years ago and is still friends with her. He has removed 4 hooks from her over the years. He also did it for a male, who let him pet him. Both were very affectionate with him. They really aren't the mindless eating machines we're led to believe they are.

Once, a priest was touring in the African Savanna. Suddenly, a lion appeared, obviously intent on having the priest for dinner. Realizing that he had no chance of escaping, the priest fell to his knees in prayer. Puzzled at the absence of an attack, the priest opened his eyes and was astonished to see the lion also kneeling, its paws clasped in prayer. He was about to approach the lion and join it in prayer when he was stopped by his guide’s urgent stage whisper- “B’wana! Get your ass outa there while his eyes are closed! He’s praying, alright; he’s saying Grace!”

I used to clean shark tanks in large public aquariums and after several months the sharks would come and visit me they get comfortable. What I learned is these man has a steady heart rate. I had a friend that worked with me and he was always very nervous and the shakes would never approach him. The sharks can feel and sense your heart rate and an array of things your body expels that you don't even realize. They have had millions of years to evolve this super powers and believe me they know how to use them really well.

Wild creatures can sense fear and anxiety in a human. It's a trigger for a predator that hunts other animals in order to eat. All cats, from a housecat to a mountain lion will give chase if something starts running in their presence. They can't help themselves it's in their nature. Like dragging a string in front of your little pet kitty. Riding a bike or jogging in cougar country is a big risk every time you do it. The movement may cause the big kitty to chase and take you down.

Since this diver goes diving three times every day, this shark must have seen him often in the same waters this shark calls home. The diver became a familiar person like someone you might see on the subway every day on your way to work. He became part of the shark's world and would be the one that the shark would feel comfortable asking for help since the diver didn't act threatened or threatening. What is also amazing is the intelligence of the shark and its understanding that men can help.

It helps a lot that the wound is continuously bathed in salt water. Kind of like seals who are freed of fishing nets, etc, while on the shore. Some of that stuff leaves nasty open wounds behind. But then the seal heads into the water where the wound will be cleaned with the best antiseptic - salt water.

@@shayshay9764 Oh blow it out your ass. Obviously I'm anthropomorphizing. It's how we make sense of something we can't possibly actually understand, being a completely different species and all. That said, my point still stands. You don't see dogs seeking out cattle to help their puppies. They find humans. You don't see sharks looking for a dolphin to remove the hook. They find a human. Most won't seek us out, because fear. But those that do, on some level, do it because of a knowledge that maybe they can help. Either they have experience with us already, were helped by us before... or they just for some reason instinctively know. Or maybe they just got lucky.

Absolutely astonishing! Animals are amazing and I cant fathom how she (the lemon shark) “knew” this thing obviously bothering her was something a human could help with! Did she know it ws some sort of human fashioned “thing” and perhaps if she could show it to a human they would take it back and this remove it from her flesh? I am so glad he removed it and hope she heals fully and lives happily ever after. I wonder just what animals do think of humans and the various things they bring with them. Apparently the sharks -and various other creatures in stories similar to this one - are able to understand humans have the ability to grasp and manipulate things in the environment. Can they discern our hands and fingers and understand their capabilities? Or do they simply recognize something that isnt natural and know on some level it came from us and try to “give back” something painful or bothersome that has somehow intruded into their lives? I know my musings sound ridiculous BUT you can’t deny what just happened in this video and others like it. There is definitely some higher level thinking and analysis going on there, and even tho we are projecting some of our own interpretation on to the creature (ie sayijng it was Thanking him and the cameraman - sure, we cant know that BUT it was acting out of the ordinary and trying to get the diver’s attention even going so far as to maneuver so the diver could see the area where hook was! Astounding and amazingly intelligent - and I want to know how what when where they truly are thinking and communicating!!! :-)

A long time ago I saw a programme explaining how sharks (not sure if it's all sharks or just certain types) have to keep moving all the time so water flows over their gills. If they stop, they die. It went on to show a large underwater rock outcrop that, because of it's shape and position, had a current permanently flowing under it. At any one time there's half a dozen or so poorly sharks resting under the outcrop. The current flows over them at the perfect speed so they can survive without moving and presumably try and recover from whatever is ailing them. Uncanny that they know where this current is and what it means for them.
