Couple fun facts! Anytime Baby is NOT listening to music, there's a small ringing sound to indicate his tinitus. Also, the actor that plays Baby's foster parent is really deaf and also a sign language coach for movies and TV. He even helped the kid that played Sam in The Last of Us!

This is absolutely a movie you should watch again, even just to see how well everything in Baby's world syncs up to the music. Even gunshots consistently fire to the beat of whichever song is playing. Hot Fuzz is arguably the funniest movie Edgar Wright has made, but I believe this is his best film.

One of my favourite elements of this movie is that Baby is literally a human mix track. Nearly every line he says is a remix of a line someone else has said earlier in the movie - either a line from a song, something on a tv in the background, or something one of the other characters have said. There are only a handful of lines of dialogue from Baby are uniquely his. Such a cool concept. The other part that's cool is that there's a constant tinitus hum mixed into the background sound whenever baby isn't listening to music that only goes away whenever he's around Debora.

My favorite detail is that both couples have the same initials:] I think it points to how Baby and Debora could've become Buddy and Darling if they had continued running but Baby makes the choice to stop and surrender in the end.

I never thought about that. But now you mention it, it makes a lot of sense. Especially with the parallels between them, as Buddy used to mess with cars when he was younger, shares a similar taste in music with Baby, is ultimately driven by love like Baby, and acts like the big brother of the crew especially to Baby.

This movie was really elevated for me once I watched the Everything Great About Baby Driver video. He really goes into detail with all the little easter-eggs in the movie and really shows how much effort was put into the movie. A lot of the stuff just blends in, like the graffiti changing based on what's currently happening, but there's a ton of stuff beneath the surface of this film.

So many great actors in this movie. The little cop that Jaimie Fox kills is the great Paul Williams who is one of the most prolific songwriters of the 1970’s. He was also in Smokey and the Bandit and the Poseidon Adventure. What a great deep cut from Edgar Wright.

I mean, even if "The Rainbow Connection" was the only song Paul ever wrote he would be a legend, but add in "Evergreen" (the love theme from the Barbara Streisand version of 'A Star is Born'), multiple hits by The Carpenters ("We've Only Just Begun" and "Rainy Days and Mondays" among them), and many others and his legacy is definitely secured. He also starred in and wrote the songs for the cult film "Phantom of the Paradise" (from 1974 directed by Brian De Palma) which is a fantastic rock opera reworking of "Phantom of the Opera".

This movie is insanely rewatchable though. Every time you watch it you notice more and more little details peppered into every scene. Like how every lyric of his walk is written on the walls, how his heart changes from black to red when Debora walks past, how every move of all characters is in time with the beat, how the skyscraper with opening title makes up a road, how there is a camera flash in the crossroads. And that are just a few details in first few minutes of the movies.

Every little detail in this movie is important, down to the color of the clothes that people wear, and the lighting for each character. While this is a GREAT movie on the surface, the PLANNING that it took to film/edit was out of this world. Not just the stunt work, but timing the edit-cuts to coincide with the MUSIC. Which is why so many of the action scenes feel more like music videos... because they TIMED IT to the beat of basically EVERY track. Not just the driving portions, but the gunfights as well as the interactions during chases. Knowing just how much they planned all of this out BEFORE filming, just goes to show the pure dedication to "the craft" that you don't see as much as you wish you would.

My favorite things about this movie are the fact that if Baby takes out one of his headphones the music only plays on that side, we sometimes hear a little high pitched ringing when he takes out his headphones as a remaining symptom from his accident as a child. you noticed the sunglasses but if you look closely their tint gets lighter and lighter as Baby stuggles to not see the consequences of his driving and the world he got pulled into to. On the other sides his shirts get darker and darker as his "white west" is becoming stained from his actions. But once he leaves prison he has a clean white shirt under his black west symbolizing that he paid his dues and is mentally in a better place with himself. Edgar Wright puts so much thought into his movies that a rewatch is always worth it.

This film is amazing with the way it synchronises the video perfectly with the music down to the smallest detail; the way the words of the song will sometimes appear in the background via graffiti or as a visual element of the scene; and of course the level of stunt driving putting basically ever other driving film to shame! Edit: Also, I got a bit of a laugh out of your comment about Subarus. As much as they are kind of a soccer mum car, some of them are rally championship cars, great for the kind of drifting and stuff seen in this movie! Not sure about that specific model though.

The amazing thing about this movie, the entire opening scene was choreographed and blocked to be in time to the song Bellbottoms. Every single action that takes place is in time and synced up to the song. Even the traffic light and the gear stick shifting is in time. I think it even applies to a majority of the rest of the film. Edgar Wright is a fucking genius and this movie could very well be his magnum opus, in my humble opinion. Edit. Also at 22:35 that was an actual practical shot where the car drifted up to where the camera was and then the camera was slowly put into the car to get Debora's crazed reaction to the drift.

I think for Baby, that prison sentence is very realistic.. he was part of an organized crime organization, he was found breaking almost every traffic law under the sun, he shot and killed people (and while he could maybe plead it down to self defense from Buddy, it doesn't look good), he assisted in robbing multiple locations and much more. The fact that he did so much good along the way really helped him out honestly.

Just a lil toss out there but maybe Nat you'd like Bronx Tale it was a very popular theater play before it was a movie written by an actor in the movie. (He insisted if you want the rights to make the movie I'm this guy)

The 50s scenes I feel are a nod to the influence of the story of the movie, which is the classic love stories of the tortured rebel with a guilty conscience and the clean cut girl that guides him to a better life. It's definitely a little more style over "substance," but with that, Edgar Wright flare, and that indie music video feel really makes it a fun popcorn film. Also, if you watch videos that dive into the Easter eggs of the movie, it really makes it more fun to re-watch.

What a movie, it really speaks to anyone who has OCD with the music matching what's going on - So satisfying. Also, can we talk about what a superb actor Jon Hamm is?

This film exists because of a music video Edgar Wright directed for Mint Royale called Blue Song. Definitely worth watching that as well.

I was expecting The Punisher to show up again. Then I saw some triva pop-up thing that showed him saying, "if you don't see me again, I'm dead." Indicating the character was dead.

I felt this movie on a spiritual level as a musician. Just going through life trying to time odd things to a rhythm or music and hopping no one notices what I'm doing lol

Edgar wright is a genius…last night is soho was a fun horror/thriller as well. The man writes great dialogue and has a fantastic visual style. I love that he also loves trying to shoot everything as practically as possible, like Chris Nolan.

If you want more Edgar Wright then I'd recommend Spaced, it was the show he did with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost before Shaun of the Dead. it's fantastic and you can definitely see the influence on his later work

Continuity is the word I would use to describe Edgar Wrights shots. Baby has ringing in his ears so the movie starts out with ringing. Almost everything he says is movie lines from movies that we saw him watch at the beginning because he doesnt know how to talk to people. There was a black heart painted on the wall outside before we first see debora and when he sees her it turns red. And so many other things. Everything matching to the music baby plays and all these different things. Edgar has perfect continuity between shots but breaks it, like the black heart turning red, to fit a point. No director puts so much focus on Continuity like Edgar does which is why he is my favorite director. Edit: he also had the editor on site in the middle of shooting to make sure everything fits together

This movie resonated with me on a very personal level, grew up on the spectrum and with tinnitus always listening to music with headphones and being in crowds that I just did not like being around I could never help but get emotional whenever I watch this movie. That and both the protagonist and I have a crippling attraction to Lily James but that's a whole another story.

Also, your comment about how you don't know if there is alot of depth to the story, I find just like all his previous movies, this movie deserves several rewatches, theirs hidden depth in every scene, I don't just say Baby is on the spectrum for no reason, he demonstrates many symptoms of Asperger's throughout the film, the most common is echolalia in which he repeats things he has recently heard in future conversations. This coupled with his almost militaristic morning routine (the coffee walk + making breakfast), constant masking whilst around people he doesn't know very well, inability to speak up and social anxiety when around someone he DOES like are all trademark signs. In short, this movie is geniunely such good representation and I adore it more after every watch.

This is among my top favorite movies ever! Love how the lyrics of the song are shown on the street when he gets after heist coffee the first time. How the things happening on the road mix with the music I love how he repeats things he hears throughout the movie to others, like a record repeating. I like how we learn the real name of a person in the final crew before that person dies or right after they dies. I have watched it probably 6 times, and I will continue to watch it regularly when Flow TV shows it. There are so many fantastic details in the movie.

Buddy is my favorite character in the movie. At first he genuinely likes Buddy, and even implies he shared a similar backstory. He is supportive of him and even keeps telling him to get out of the criminal life. But when his love dies, he just goes feral. Jon Hamm plays it so well, cause during the last act, you can see Buddy looks like he’s both about to strangle Baby to death, but also like he’s about to break down crying
