My favorite line in this entire film is when Benoit says to Marta: "You knew, because you had done it a hundred times. You gave him the correct medication... because you are a good nurse." It makes emotional every time.

Completely agree. Hits me too. It works on multiple levels. Not only is it saying that she's skilled at her job, not only is it saying that she's a nurse who is a good person, but it's being said by the person whose only desire and the very point of his profession is to get to the truth. It comes across not as an opinionated statement, but as factual evidence being submitted. Marta didn't simply need it to clear her. She needed to hear it from him to lose the overwhelming guilt she had been feeling over Harlan's death.

You want to hear something funny? When my mom and I first saw the movie, she didn't understand why everyone was saying that Marta was such a good person. Apparently, my mom thought that Marta looked just like Richard's mistress. 😅

One little detail that I absolutely LOVE: throughout most of the movie, the painted portrait of Harlan has a stern, foreboding expression on his face, like he's looking down on everyone in disapproval. But in the final scene of the movie, when Marta looks up a that same portrait, Harlan now has a wry smile on his face, like he's pleased and proud of her for winning out over the family. :)

It's a bit like the old "Columbo" series with Peter Falk. They always showed the viewers exactly how the murder was committed and by whom. The entertainment was in seeing how our lovable detective expertly fenced in the culprit by the end. "Knives Out" takes it to another level and then again and again.

The first time I watched this movie, I hated it. I didn't understand why they would reveal the truth halfway through. I didn't see the purpose. When I finally understood it wasn't a comedy (it has funny moments, but I went in thinking it was a comedy) I went back for a rewatch and I finally appreciated the cleverness of it all. I wound up naming my new pup Mr. Benoit!

And after Ransom hears Marta's confession, the first comment he makes is something like, "I thought I was the only one who could beat him at Go." Ransom tries to get ahead of Harlan in Go---and with the will---to fuel his own greed. Marta just wants to make something beautiful. She brought so much light and joy to Harlan's life because she genuinely wanted to be his friend, not for his money.

there are so many small details i love about this movie. Seems like everyone got outvoted, no one actually knows where Marta's family is from, in the flashback's to Harlan's birthday party everyone's next to him for the cake. but easily the best one is Harlan saying Ransom cant tell the difference between a real knife and a prop

It’s such a great way to build the mystery. Most of the flashbacks keep changing based on who’s recalling it. Helps put you IN the story instead of being the omniscient viewer like most mystery stories.

I love the side story of the baseball: Richard throughs it out the window after he finds the "blank" letter, Blanc picks it out and puts it in his pocket, he later throws it to the dog when it brings him the trellice pieces, and then finally Linda takes it from the dog after the will reading. She goes to put it back and finds the letter. If Richard had not thrown it out the window to begin with she would have never found the letter to bust him. *perfect*

This was such an amazing movie. And when Blanc said that he knew it was her right from the beginning, if you look at the scene when Blanc first meets Marta, he looks down at her shoes, pauses, and then continues talking. So good

This is Agatha Christie level mystery. It is so well done, built up piece by piece, makes you question everyone. Then makes you requestion them. And makes you question yourself questioning them. Everyone does so good. Daniel Craig with the Southern Gentleman accent is just too good. Anna just kills it every time she is on screen. And I love how calm and unworried he is about his impending death. "Oh that's much less. No pressure. I really gotta write this down, I could use it in a book." lol. And how he cares for her like the child he wishes he had. He wouldn't die to save any of his own, but her he does.

Christopher Plummer was spectacular in this film. He carried such a rich performance in such a relatively small window of time. My absolute favorite part about this movie is the way i saw it. It was my freshman year of college and they always would have free movie showings on our campus theater. I decided to go to this on a random friday night thinking itd be empty because everyone was out partying. the theater was actually packed over capacity and people were sitting on the floor and stuff. And *everybody* was so in tune with the movie, laughing at the jokes, cheering at some of the bigger moments, etc. It was so fun because of how many twists and turns there are in this movie. Its so tightly written and gets so much engagement from the viewer. Of course seeing big movies like Infinity War and Endgame on opening night is always a blast but something just felt so much more “communal” that night, like everybody was vibing on the same wavelength. Its probably my favorite theater experience ever

the DP on this film (among other Rian Johnson films) has developed an entire library of digital film effects that perfectly mimic some of the more desirable qualities of analog film. this entire movie was shot digitally but it looks like real film because of the warm rich light that pervades the house

There are a lot of moments in this movie that make it worth a second watch. Things like Harlan describing Ransom as someone that can't tell a real knife from a prop one, the two bottles having different amounts of liquid (as one uses more per dose, a hint that she did give the right meds), or the dogs barking when Ransom first appears after it being mentioned that the dogs were barking the night of the "murder."

Our first house when I was a young child was next to a house of similar size and style as the one in this movie. The big house was a boarding house and the lady who owned it had a daughter close to our age. It was a cool house to play hide and seek in because it had tiny back hallways that the servants used back in the day. It had a tower section too. The house I lived in was the servants’ quarters at one point.

The piano key is one of the fun details which is not obvious on first viewing. When Benoit Blanc plays a note, it is a cue for the detective. Notice he always asks when they arrived at the party so Blanc can build the sequence of events while staying a “passive observer” for a while.

I love the details and the fact that you pick up more details the more you watch the movie again. One thing I didn't fully realize until now is that Mr. Thrombey was preparing everything for when he dies. He had completely the most important parts of what he wanted to do so when Marta thought she overdosed him and he would die, it was okay with it and ended himself as to not get Marta in trouble and complete his plan.

Fun Fact: In real life, Harlin is actually older than the lady who played his mom. And part where Jacob yells at Marta about sleeping with his grandfather, that wasn't originally in the script but Michael Shannon convinced the director to let them keep it. I love how the camera is shaking when they all leave the house trying to confront Marta.

this is one of my favorites movies of all time, and i really recommend you to rewatch it knowing everything that happened. the amount of foreshadowing and hidden clues is insane (one can actually tell ransom was involved in his first appearance if they pay enough attention) and there's even full subplots told just by background details. it just gets better and more fun every time i watch it

Rian Johnson is a really good director and has a love for mystery/noir films. If you wanna check out another film he made similar to 'Knives Out', I recommend his very first film 'Brick'. It's also Joseph Gordon-Levitt's first role. Dialogue is a bit odd, but it's also pretty fun to watch and there are some really cool shots in there.

I think ne reason this movie is recommended for family things like holidays is because its inspired by the style of Agatha Christie. and the appeal to her work is intergenerational, She is mine and my dads favourite author and she was my grandma's favourite as well. I watched this movie with my dad and we both thought my Abue would have really liked it too.

It's not even explicitly stated which one comes first chronologically. This is why director Rian Johnson was so annoyed that they included "A Knives Out Story" in the title for _Glass Onion._

I love when Harlem mentions during their game that not everyone is very perceptive and can’t tell the difference between a real knife and a fake one. And then Ransom can’t tell the difference at the end. So many clever moments!

I love that the movie gives you all the details you need to figure it out, yet pretty much no one did. That's why it's much more like an Agatha Christie story than a Sherlock Holmes. In Sherlock's stories, he sees and gathers details "off screen" so to speak, but in Christie's stories, she gives you all the details. And the brilliant thing that takes it up even another level is that we're given an actual behind-the-scenes answer to whodunnit early on, so we stop looking for answers. Just a great story, and I'm so looking forward to Glass Onion!

A cool thing about the movie is that Harlan says something about ransom not being able to tell the difference between a real knife and a knife prop which leads to him grabbing the prop and “stabbing” Marta with it. So many things that lead to the end sprinkled within the movie. One of my favorite movies ever.
