BABY DRIVER is one of the BEST films ever. let me show u why **Commentary**

Two of my favorite quiet character bits from this movie are: 1) Baby has so many sunglasses and iPods because he steals them from the cars he steals. 2) Baby wears sunglasses while criming, but not when he's going about his real life. This keeps up until the third act when things Get Real and the sunglasses he's wearing have one of their lenses broken off. Because he can't keep his crime life and normal life separate any more. Bonus: "When [Buddy] sees red, all you'll see is black" is said by Darling in the diner scene. Later on, Buddy is lit in redder and redder lights throughout the third act.

Also, Baby's shirt starts white and gets darker and dirtier as the film goes and the stains of his criminal life catch up to him. Up until he walks out of prison in a white shirt again.

Also, a lot of the song choices have popular "oh, I thought it would be this song", alternatives. Like House of Pain Jump Around being the common expectation when hearing those beginning iconic horn notes.

I think that Baby losing his hearing is like the price he had to pay to get out the crime life. Buddie and Darling are like Bonnie and Clyde, once she died his life was done too, he just decided to end everyone that had anything to do with her dying.

13:13 He never rocks the same CREW twice. It's like, he's got a Face, a Thief, a Marksman, a Spy, a Wild Card, and a Driver. Baby is always his Driver, because every heist needs one, and Baby's the best. But sometimes he needs a Face, sometimes a Spy, and sometimes a Wild Card. So the people may be the same from time to time, but the crew composition is never the same. Doc likely wanted Buddy or Darling as the Face for the gun run and postal party, but Buddy and Darling are a package deal. Baby's the Designated Driver, and so that guy who stole Baby's sunglasses is out, since they've already run that crew. That leaves getting in a new guy, or using Eddie No-Nose or Bats, and despite Bats being Bats*it insane, he doesn't stand out nearly as much as Eddie, and getting in a new guy could mean something going wrong, just like with JD, and Doc likely doesn't want to sunset _another_ car so soon after the last one. That's bad for business. Unfortunately, so was Bats in this case.

I don't think I have ever seen Lily James in anything before this, but she is like; "PAINFULLY Pretty" in this movie! Like, jaw on the floor, ultimate 'beautiful girl-next-door" pretty! (With enough excellent acting talent to emanate amazing "chemistry" with "Baby".) I am no where near a young 17-year-old anymore. But I can fully believe any man (myself included) falling in Love with her, just from GAZING at her for a while!

19:05 - fun fact: Baby lands on grass, (it wasn't that big of a drop either way), and then did a "slap landing" ish landing. A slap landing is when you bend your knees and lean forward, to let most of your momentum disperse, and use the rest to carry you forward (if the drop is high, you slap the ground with your palms - hence the name). If you look closely, you'll see that his knees don't really bend beyond ~90 degrees, which is actually proper technique, and won't hurt your knees and ankles especially on dirt/grass.

Props on recognizing the apparent misuse of 'Wherefore', but, this being an Edgar Wright movie, it would definitely have been planned, (literally scripted (haha! 'literally')) perhaps Buddy was using it wrong but Edgar got him to say it for a reason, maybe saying the same thing we are- "Why are you called Baby?" or maybe "Why are who you are, a driver for criminals?" else he and Deborah would be able to live happily together.

This was such an amazing movie. I almost hate how good the writing was lol - I was so disappointed when they killed off Darling (19:53) & turned Buddy into the main antagonist (21:08 21:45). They were the best/ most likeable characters in the entire film besides Baby & Debora tbh (13:08 13:23 17:09), so even tho the writing was fantastic, I was still sad to see them die, especially like that. I wish they could've turned Griff into the final antagonist instead or something lol.

Buddy and Darling are what Baby and Deborah are if Baby were to cross the line and drag Deborah into crime. Even their names have the same first initials B and D. Each criminal are cautionary tales of how Baby could have been had he no empathy or capacity to care and love. The person that grounds him is the Joseph, a surrogate father figure. This is such a great film that’s soured by Spacey and his controversies are what inevitably killed its chances at the Oscars going 0 for 3, best film editing, best sound editing and best sound mixing. Ansel would later get some accusations thrown his way promoting West Side Story remake 😐

I have to say that If they didn't have Bats as part of the team and forced Baby back into the driver seat, things wouldn't have gone south so fast. I don't know why a criminal mastermind would force a man back into crime again knowing he doesn't want to do it anymore. You just create bad blood between them and ruined any trust they had. He should have also axed Bats. He kept killing for the sake of killing and starting shit that didn't need to be started. His paranoid ass killed off important business associates and he constantly threatened and insulted the get away driver. It sounds suicidal to mess with the guy who's job it is to get you out of the crime scene. He was just luckily for a long while Baby did'nt speed off instead of wait for him

This movie was in development hell for quite some time before Wright had the opportunity to finally make it, hence why the script seems to be dated to the 2000s. A lot of cues carried over into the final product, so it does feel like a unique little time capsule in some ways.

Believer me, I wish the music wasn't an issue, even if you just had small bits here and there from every song.
